I got it for free off of PS Plus and it's genuinely awful.

Once it stops throwing 6000 references at you in the first 5 minutes and you have to actually *play* it, it's just a mess. Avoid.

Not worth it at 7.50. It's a very polished game, but its just not a very good one. It's just average at best. It's really short, and the challenges are all luck based.

Thanks for the info.

I bought it. Only played a bit of the freeroaming mode until I lost a game of chicken to a tank. Still, pretty fun. The retro thing is a bit overdone, but still palatable.

Not sure if it's worth 8 bucks for others considering the wealth of awesome games at or below that price point, but for me, I think I'll get my enjoyment out of this.

If you're talking about the Amiga version, then yes. The version of SuperFrog on GOG isn't the Amiga version, it's the DOS version. So, find something called Amiga Forever from Cloanto, buy whichever version you need, and then find the SuperFrog Amiga disk/CD images and away you go.
What's the difference?

Getting LucasArts would almost be an anti-climax, now that most of the (good) games already are on Steam. There are only a few games I really look forward to other than for collecting, and that's the Indiana Jones action games (Infernal Machine and The Emperor's Tomb), and Grim Fandango.

That said, I wouldn't MIND having the full collection of LucasArts adventure games on GOG. For example, I'd like to see the Monkey Island 1 VGA (as opposed to the EGA version that's included in the HD demake, and Monkey Island 2.

Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders would be a great addition as well.

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force would be nice. (Elite Force 2 would be nicer, since I don't already own it.)

What are you talking about? That's clearly the VGA version you get when you swap to "retro mode". EGA was much, much less varied in shades of color.

Then, we will cry because the best versions of early LucasArts are on FM Towns.

The games on Steam don't run in ScummVM though iirc. I'll gladly take just about every adventure game they've made getting a DRM-free digital release though, anti-climax or not. Steam also doesn't have X-Wing or TIE Fighter, i'd love to see those re-released again too.

Speaking of MI1&2, we're also missing Curse of Monkey Island entirely from any digital store as well, which is another great game. :)

Apparently, you're absolutely right. For some reason I just remembered the game looking better when I play it through ScummVM (and no, I don't use filters, that would just make it look worse). There's something off about the version included in the HD demakes, but I don't know what.

And yes, I forgot about the FM-Towns versions, but we'll never get those versions anyway. VGA versions are most likely our best bet. Though which games have a far superior FM-Towns version anyway? I can only think of Zak McKracken.

Curse is the best monkey island.

It's really really good, but I don't think it tops MI1 and 2. At least it's miles better than both EMI and TOMI.

Also, I hate Guybrush's design in Curse.

I think it has the best puzzles, voicework and art (excluding the remakes) in the series. Curse and Jedi Knight are the two games I'd like most on GOG now that SS2 is out.

I think the biggest hold up with a lot of Lucasarts games from the late 90s is that they have much deeper issues than the installer and a lot have little to no community fixes.

Wonder if they're doing a special edition of it, like the first two?

First Monkey is my favorite, loved the demo more than some entire games. Would like to play 3 as it is and never had the chance to play 4. Heard is not that great but hopefuly is worth it of a play through.

Also i want Silent Hill Trilogy on Gog, PLEASE with cherry on top.

The fact that you think the remakes have better artwork than Curse disqualifies you from having any opinion ever.

They look like overly clean and cheap plastic flashgames. Especially MI1.

But yes, the voice in Curse is better than in the first two games, since that (originally) didn't have any, and thus the remakes sound more forced. The dialogue is meant to be read, not heard, in the first two games. And oh god, they made Largo LaGrande in MI2 sound like a retarded Disney-dwarf.

That said, Curse is good, just not as good as MI1 and 2 imo. Puzzles in MI2 were brilliant, nonlinear and funny (despite the infamous monkey-wrench puzzle, though I found it funny, even though I got stuck and english being my second language).

Part II - The Four Map Pieces is the single greatest piece of adventure game design ever. Spitting contest, scubadiving, skeleton dance, island hopping, jailbreaking, graverobbing, reincarnation, cross-dressing... how can one not love that?

For Lucasarts, TIE Fighter is of course their best game ever. Second I'd say is Grim Fandango, followed by Jedi Knight 1, and then Fate of Atlantis. #5... hmm, probably Curse. That's my favorite Monkey Island game.

Don't forget that ZZT is Epic, too. Tim Sweeney's finest hour, and that was something of a minor phenomenom when I was a teenager. I wonder how many of the old (and in many cases, hideous) ZZT sites I frequented at the time are still up.

I don't think I played ZZT much at all... if I did play it any, it wasn't enough to remember much of anything about it. I did play the Kroz games a bit, and they seemed good but extremely difficult, but the only ASCII game that I really played a lot of was Castle Adventure. Great game, that.

The thing about ZZT wasn't actually the gameplay - that wasn't all that great, although it had some good variety. The magic of it was the editor, with a functional scripting language in it. Could allow you to make some quite advanced interactive works.

Of course, there is a side issue with that: the editor was the big appeal of ZZT, but it was fully-usable in even the shareware version. I can't help but think that it might have been a bit hard to sell the later episodes when the shareware players could access a massive library of adventures for free!

SWOS

I never actually played SWOS, only the original Sensi (and the 200X remake!), but those were both enjoyable, and I'm well aware that SWOS is regarded by far as the definitive version.

Edit: Also Richard & Alice. Got nothing on this. Seems to be a recent point'n'click release, but I don't recall it from the GAF PnC thread.

Were they ever gonna put up System Shock 1, I wonder? I know 2 was the one everyone wanted, and that 1 has aged about as well as bread from the same year would have due to its clunky control scheme, but for completeness's sake...

It's on the list of Most Wanted Games (at 2 or 3 now I think), but I'm pretty sure EA has it's hand in that one.

Weekend promo's up, and it's an Apogeefest.

Terminal Velocity
Duke Nukem 1+2
Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition
Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project
Blake Stone: Planet Strike
Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold
Rise of the Triad: Dark War
Shadow Warrior Complete

I already have one or tw of those games but sadly the rest don't interst me =/ Will grab the new game released yesterday soon tho~

Though everyone should already have this from when they were giving it away over the holidays.

I wasn't deliberately emphasising that one, just thought I'd try using Minsc's highlighting from The Big List to draw people's attention to when more notable titles are on sale. An unfortunate week to start doing it, though!

Maybe if you're of East Asian descent and easily offended...

I was under the impression that most of the Build engine games were highly regarded. Is that not the case with Shadow Warrior? I was kind of surpised it wasn't listed as a recommended game in the OP.

Edit: Yeah checking the reviews it does seem kind of distasteful. I never really looked into the game other than seeing previews for it years ago.
