*tears thread out of the past*
just took the jump from PC to mac (well not entirely true, as im keeping my PC laptop) but just dropped $700 deposit for a dual 2ghz G5 on a 2 year interest free deal - now they better bloody hurry up and deliver it quick before i realise i've made a horrible mistake!

i'm currently scouring the net looking for cool 'essential' programs to use on osx - i've heard quicksilver is awesome, and the adblock/image thumbnail extension plugins posted earlier seem pretty useful - anyone else have any indispensable utilities they'd like to share with me?

I switched over two years ago, and I like my Mac enough that I got a job doing tech support for Apple. Well, I did just quit, but that's because tech support sucks and people are retards. I still love Apple's product, and I'm really really going to love the Cinema Display I got with my discount. :D

Delicious Library (entertainment database), Saft (plug-in for Saft), Acquisition (P2P), Adium X (multi-protocol chat program), and MacTheRipper (DVD backup) off the top of my head.

Darwinports. http://darwinports.opendarwin.org/

Learn how to use the command line, and you'll be set for applications. This takes the popular BSD ports software library and makes it available for use on OSX. Applications get installed in a folder under Applications, so you don't have to execute them from the command line. It's regularly updated, and installs are easy.

As for other popular apps, do a search on the OT forum. There have been like 5 or so different Mac software topics in recent memory.

As Phoenix told me before Tiger came out, you probably won't need Quicksilver now. Spotlight more or less makes it obsolete (at least for me it did).
