Congrats to Wes Anderson; pretty neat. I loved both GBH and Birdman, so I'm happy either way.

Mediocre script made special because of how it was shot. Performances were fairly average as well. I don't even dislike the movie I just greatly disagree with the massive amounts of praise being heaped on it. It's gimmick is why it wins, not anything else.

Grand Budapest over Birdman? Ain't even mad.

Exactly, If you take away the gimmick of being shot over years, you're not really left with much of anything.

Barely true. Linklater just reminded a lot of people what understated filming looks like. The movie got so many small things exactly right.

Miles teller was great too. I was blown away by the movie. One of the few movies that has exceeded my high expectations
Yeah he was. But I guess it was just a crowded year. Who knows, maybe it will get more noms for the Academy Awards.
I'm kind of surprised Foxcatcher got nominations where Whiplash didn't. I haven't seen it myself, but I haven't heard many good things about that movie, while I've seen pretty much nothing but praise for Whiplash.

Except for an extremely well paced movie with some great performances and a beautiful picture of life and youth. It could seriously not have the "gimmick" and be just as great.

Same deal as the Before trilogy.

I like them both. Foxcatcher is the better film overall. Whiplash felt like this years Dallas Buyers Club for me.

Foxcatcher was an 7 for me while whiplash was a 10

I don't even think it was that well placed because it could really drag towards the end. And the performances were below Whiplash by a mile.

And yet I think I put it fourth in my favorite films of the year because like everyone else, how it was shot is goddamn impressive.

It's not a movie, there's almost no plot to it. At this point people are just seeing what they want to see. It's almost just a bunch of random scenes thrown together and he called it a movie.

I agree with you but I think it definitely deserves praise. Arquette probably shouldn't have won, sure, but the movie really was something different and appealed to me quite a bit, I never see things that relate able on screen very often.

Anyway, congrats to Grand Budapest. I haven't seen it, but it looks neat and I'm going to watch it tomorrow.

Foxcatcher deserves the nominations for its performances, but I was pretty surprised to see it up for best drama at the GGs; I thought it was just okay. It'll be more understandable if it gets an Oscar nod due to the expanded number of nominees.

It'll be easier. No way Oscar is touching comedies outside of Birdman and GBH.

I haven't seen Whiplash, but Hawke was fantastic. For an almost 3 hour movie I felt it flew by.

No, it wasn't that. Firstly, what makes a movie a movie? It doesn't follow a typical structure, but that's far from the point.
