So I got hit by the Seagate firmware bug recently and lost my entire HDD filled with music. I have a huge iPod that has all my songs on it already though, but I now want to transfer it back to my recently purchased WD 1tb drive. If my iPod goes, then it's all gone.

How can I do this? I'll need some 3rd party software I assume, and google searches show a smattering of programs(many outdated or cost money).

What methods does GAF recommend?

If you change yours settings to show hidden files you should be able to drag all the files from the ipod onto your desktop. The file names are jibberish but iTunes can auto-sort and rename all of them and then you can do what you want with them.

And I did a quick search and the explanation on how to do this was the first thing that popped up:

Media Monkey works for this as well. Free too, if those other options arent, I didn't check.
