I'm jumping in in the middle of your conversation and just wanted to add a parenthesis to it. I agree that it's not enough to do good, because a person can do good things for the wrong reasons. For example, provide a friend with food only to later use it against him and demand something in return. Whenever I do something kind to someone I always do it without expecting anything in return. On the other hand, a person who has good and kind thoughts, but never
acts on them isn't really a good person. It'd be like claiming to be a generous person, but you never actually offer any of it to anyone.
