What is this game you're refering to? And what platform is it?

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, XB360.

EDIT: Three simultaneous posts. TAKE THAT WARIO! :)

I had decided I wouldn't get a 360, but this game REALLY makes me want one, on screenshots alone. I am also completely unfamiliar with Elder Scrolls in general.

^^ agreed.

i really dig that light weaning through the trees there in the middle. like the trees tops let a beam of light through. i hope all this lighting is real time and looks like that. it would be really cool if the treetops swayed in the wind and the lighting spots beaming through moved accordingly.

I know people think this looks great, but it looks like a good current-gen PC game. Not a great deal of geometry, and the lighting isn't impressive at all IMO. But...these ES games aren't really about graphics. More about freedom. I'm sure it'll be a snoozer after the novelty of becoming a thief wears off. ;) OK...so Morrowind dragged a bit. A lot of people dig those kinds of rpgs. Yikes, how do I bail out of this thread gracefully? *throws smoke grenade....vanishes* PEACE.

ok, after watching the video... i dunno about really bad animation, but that is the best fucking music i have EVER heard from a videogame! i am having multiple eargas'ms. holy shit! who the hell is the genius behind that music? and why isn't he in the movies instead? that gave me goosebumps! ::burrr::

graphically, although technically great (not many pc game today touch this imo, although one could easily argue HL2), i was actually speaking more artistically. how the forest looks (tons of different trees and shrubs and trees creating like an overhead canopy). and how the lighting comes through the trees. just sets an awesome atmosphere that i want to be in!

I agree. Forgive the comparison, but it felt like a big-budget Hollywood release trailer, the way the narration and music were structured. That is some great music. Now fighting temptation to buy... :)

I want to like this game... But, c'mon, the bloom effect is being extremely overused in that shot. Some of the lighting on the grass is also off.

Here's to hoping that they get that extra time to polish the game graphically.

The music...isn't THAT great. The reason for your elation is the velvety soft broodings of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. I'm sure of it.

The music sounds like typical Jeremy Soule stuff to me. Quality, but very predictable fare, all his music sounds too much alike to me. But he is one of the better game composers by far. I just hope it has more tracks than Morrowind.

I also hope the third person animation in Oblivion is much cleaner than Morrowind, which was pretty scummy as are most most third person "options" in first person titles.

it was great up intil the end when he shouted "OBLIVION" which was very corny.

and although he was cool (other than the end) the music was what i was loving. i wanted him to be quiet so i could hear it better.

P.S. Alex: listen to the Morrowind Theme and then this, they sound nothing alike.

I'd have a boner if this were a lumberjack game.

What the fuck is the point of having a badass knight and nothing to hit? :/
everything must be trolled!

You might have a point if every screen shot I've seen posted of this game were something more than "GUY STANDING IN FOREST".
i dont know why im responding, but if you had any real interest in the game and watched the trailer you'd know differently.

The character model looks great, the enviroment however is nothing that would be considered next-gen IMO.

i think it has the best looking environments i've seen in any next gen game, with the exception of some of the ps3 games that probably weren't real time.

It absolutley has the best looking forests EVER. Seriously, what xbox 360 game so far has better looking organic environments than this? The only game that looks better visually is gears of war, and it's more the character models and lighting, not the environments... if this isn't next gen, what is?

edit/// i'll go even further. with all the promised features and the promise of a launch before the end of the year. this is the most impressive next gen game shown so far... by a very long shot.. a HUGE world (16 square miles) with environments that look like that, poissibly the best forests ever, incredible AI routines, 10+ races, highly customizable (faces, skills stats, clothes) downloadable content and the promise of over 200 hours of open ended gameplay for a title that might be a launch game... it's outrageous. it will probably be several years before an RPG comes out that delivers more content in the next gen... if next gen never gets better than that, i won't be disapointed.

if i buy a 360, this will be the reason why.. i loved morrowind and this seems to improve on every aspect.. i'm just drooling for it.

My garden is!!

:)

I didn't see the video when posting that, but now that I have the "organic" feel of it makes it better. I take back what I said. That picture doesn't do it justice, it doesn't look much better than the forest in RS3:RS.

I think I'll upgrade my pc for this game when it comes out. I know it'd be cheaper to get xbox360 (and I might get one anyway), but it won't have the humongous user created community the previous games have had and to me, that's worth buying a new video card for. I've sunk more time into Morrowind than should be legally allowed and have played through it fully twice and a good portion through another few times. God, I love that game

After reading all the features of this game, I can't wait. This is not trolling in any way towards other consoles, but there are honestly not any other games I am anticipating. Don't get me wrong, when games like FEAR, the new Zelda and others come out I'll probably buy and play them, but this is one of the only games I am truly anticipating. As in I would do just about anything to have it done tomorrow so I could play it.

The only other game I'm anticipating anywhere close to that (and it isn't really) is Empire at War, the Star Wars RTS. It sounds good -- almost like a true successor to MOO2, but in the Star Wars universe (and after the prequels!). I have less faith it will turn out as good as I'm hoping but I know that Bethesda will deliver.

you know... they are talking about "content" downloads through xbox live for this game. i'm actually hoping that they will let users submit mods and release the ones that get past quality testing over xbox live... it would save them a heck of a lot of work to let other users make content. if the modding systms works like it does in morrowind, most mods will use assets provided in the construction set, which led to very small downloads and should make the two versions pretty compatible. it seems like it would be simple to me... sharing content over multiple platforms seems to be a big thing for next gen and i don't see why this game couldn't follow that example. It would add a hell of a lot of value to the game.

If Bethesda can pull that off, that would be awesome. I just have a feeling it's hard to compete with the precision of a mouse/keyboard when it comes to creating new assets. While I don't doubt people are going to be able to have some degree of customization with the xbox360 version (considering the xbox version of morrowind didn't allow for any), I have a feeling it won't be quite as flexable as the pc version of the construction set. I'd love to be proven wrong, but that's just the way it looks to me right now

no actually thats not what i was suggesting...

i don't think console gamers will get a construction set... i think we will be able to download mods made for the pc version of the game through xbox live, made by people with the pc construction set... I think the mods should work on both versions.

this assumes that both versions will be basicly identical and that the construction set works about the same way it did last time. The mods could very well be portable between the versions. In the last game a mod was essentially a set of instructions telling the game to build assets and scripted quests, therefore the files were very small and the game worked as an "interpreter" for them. Sometimes people would add art assets to their mods, but the majority of mods simply use basic game assets with new islands, or quests. If it works the same way this time, user made content should be very portable from the pc version if bethesda wants to take advantge of it.

the only problem is the bugs... some user made mods contained very nasty bugs. Bethesda would have to quality test them to assure that they aren't going to mess up anybody's save files or anything before they released them to the console audience via an official channel like xbox live. When users are downloading mods from other users, that's one thing, but when bethesda officially endorses a mod as "safe" it will have to really be perfect. thats the only problem i see with this idea... it seems to me that looking from bethesda's perspective it would be easier than making content themselves and would allow them to release a lot more content to the console audience.

anyway, maybe it's a pipe dream, but i am hopefull.
