That's just a sample of my default "sleep" soundtrack, with my favorites bolded. Most of it is Air (spacey French rock), with Boards of Canada (atmospheric lo-fi samples over simple beats). With the exception of a couple of tracks, you can't go wrong with either them for sleeping. Air's tracks double as mood music for dates. :)

Beck's Mutations and the entire Boards of Canada catalogue, sans Music is Math... that's not too relaxed.

EDIT: Alpha Beta Gaga = teh secks

I've just started to listen to Spiritualized's "Ladies and Gentleman We are Floating in Space". Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but it's pretty relaxing for me.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
both Beck's Mutations and Sea Change are good ones.

Explosions in the Sky, definitely.

And if you like that kind of stuff, definitely look into some earler Brian Eno. He invented ambient music. Music For Airports is a good one.

Most of the stuff by Travis and Coldplay is pretty relaxing. Hell, Travis is the only music I've yet encountered that I can fall asleep too.

What about good sex music? I had a "straight" friend who swore by Enigma for sex music, which seems pretty cliche to me, but oh well. :lol

We need another thread "mood" music thread, with proper playlists that flow and last longer than an hour. i've got a few playlists on my old hard drive with 70s soul, jazz, some newer stuff like Air and Lovage, and various other artists.

I decided to make a seperate post about specific songs. Harder to remember them than I thought - especially relaxing music - and my Media Library is not complete on this PC:

Indie/Rock/Alternative- guitar music:
Dire Straits: Romeo and Juliet, Brothers in Arms... Radiohead: Let Down, Bulletproof, Kid A, Spinning plates (many more)... Mew: Comforting Sounds... Spiritualised: Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space... Sigur Ros: njósnavélin... Muse: Screenager, Recess, Shine Acoustic, The Gallery, Hyper Chondriac Music, Falling Away With You, Blackout, Ruled By Secrecy... Aqualung: Strange and Beautiful... Babybird: Back Together... Jeff Buckley: hallelujah... Embrace: Gravity... The Music: Open Your Mind, Into the Night... Ooberman: Roll me in cotton... Ours: Sometimes, Dizzy... Super Furry Animals: Arnofio / Glo In the Dark...

More classical kinda stuff:
Ennio Morricone: Gabriel's Oboe, The Ecstacy of Gold, The Trio, The Untouchables (ending), A sillhouette of doom, l'arena, Once Upon A Time in the West / The Man With The Harmonica, Death Theme (untouchables), Once Upon a Time In America... Claude Debussy: A Time For Us... Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli: Con Te Partiro / Time To Say Goodbye... LV Beethoven: Moonlight Sonata (all 3 movements)... Michael Kamen: The Highlander Theme... JS Bach: Air on a G string... Gabriel Faure - Pavane... Gustav Holst: Jupiter (or other tracks from the Planets suite)...

Industrial/Electronic/Dance/Synth/whatever music:
Nine Inch Nails: Hurt, The Great Below... Royksopp: Epple.... Chicane: Saltwater... Aphex Twin: Avril 14...

that should be a good start on the things I like.

Great song.

These are my four favorite "serene songs" to take a nap to:

"Sailing", by Christopher Cross (the fade-in intro just captures you and then you're hooked :p-- incredible song)

"Fragile" and "Fields of Gold", by Sting

"Return to Innocence" by Enigma (don't play it too loud though, or it ruins the sleepy mood; something about this song at low to moderate volume just makes me drift off :D)
