Nopes, I'll try that.

Actually, I've never played a FF game.

Final Fantasy IV is sadly broken on GBA.

Final Fantasy IV has been broken in every North American release it's gotten. Final Fantasy IV Advance is still the best version, however, due to the various game additions such as character swapping, the auto-run, minor game improvements such as better item labeling and being able to see what prospective purchases do to character stats, and most importantly, the drastically improved script and characterization.

Wow ethelred dealt the ace of spades with that post. Usually whoever defends FFIV Advance retorts to just a few simple points.

But it's true - every single English version of FFIV is broken in some shape or form.

The menu slowdown and fucked up ATB timing during battles negates all of that for me, unfortunately. I like the improvements that were made (well, except for the new font, which is hideous on the GB Player), but the menu twitchiness and timing problems really sap the enjoyment out of combat. One of the joys of the old cart-based FFs was how quickly you could get in and out of battle, which made leveling fun and even random encounters bearable. Battle transitions are still fine in FFIV Advance, but the delay in menu responses really annoys the hell out of me because I am so used to how the game plays on SNES. And I don't know what happened with the ATB system, perhaps something about the port from Wonderswan.

I am so disappointed with FFIV Advance simply because IV is my all-time favorite FF game. I really thought this would be the definitive version. I just hope SE does a better job with V and VI, especially since they won't be porting from the WSC version (I guess).
