Google Earth's New Timelapse Shows 37 Years of Change

All the fools in this thread being triggered by the simple truth desperately need to get a sense of scale and perspective. Our means of industrial mass production have gotten to the point where they are massively impacting our planet.

I don't understand the point of the first graph. Are you trying to say the Industrial Revolution was bad?

Here's another chart for you breh-brah:
world-population-in-extreme-poverty-absolute.png

The Industrial Revolution facilitated mass food production which allowed the global population to swell to 8 billion all the while fewer people live in extreme poverty today than they did in 1820.

Yeah climate change is bad, but you know what else is bad? Being a first world Westerner who is trying to suggest the world would be better off if there were 6 billion fewer people. Which people would you like to incinerate first? Care to volunteer your family?

Climate change, or the lives of 6 billion relatively happy people. Pick one.

Yeah like U said I think we can find a balance. Lets be honest, there are too many ppl on the planet. Some shit like China where they have so many cities with millions living in them, I dunno that cant be good for the planet.

In fact it would be better if the weak, fat and diseased people died off so humanity can perfect itself as a race.

But you know thats not gonna happen unless we solve shit like diseases, weaknesses etc get solved.

The world is gonna suck ass if all there is left is megacities, pollution and barely any trees, wildlife and shit.

I dont really go out on nature trips or anything, but it would be a shame if that shit all died off.

I dunno, thats just me. On one hand a mega city civilization like Judge Dredd sounds cool but if its at the expense of the planet then I dunno man

Lets keep the eugenics discussion off NeoGAF please.

Dont give me that shit. Your silent "participation" is exactly the cause!

"Global warming, rain forrest, oh the poor rivers are drying up."

But are the first to stand in line for the latest iPhone, sippin your Starbucks latte with your new leather shoes.

Was ready to call you out but literally have a Starbucks in my hand.

Sorry earth :(

Well yeah Im just sortof looking at a perfect society, where we as humankind have erased our troubles such as disease or genetic inherency for disabilities etc, food and everything.

Like a Star Trek like society, where basically everyone is happy, there is no wars, there is no currency and humanity has risen above itself to discover the galaxy.

I didnt mean anything by it but it would be better if we as humanity evolved to a next point.

Do you believe such a perfect society is within our reach?

Nothing proper will be done about climate change until enough rich people starting losing money or dying. Whether that’ll be done soon enough or not is anyone’s guess right now.

But, you know, we can all try to do something to slow it down, if we’re not a complete bunch of cunts.

Yeah lets not try to overcome our weaknesses as a species. Lets just keep fucking until we all die of stupidity instead.

Sounds more like gunslikewhoa gunslikewhoa 's kinda deal anyway

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
Didn’t know Google had cameras recording 37 years ago to be fair. They kept that quiet ;)

How can you be against improving the planets health 😂 what kind of special idiot do you have to be? Idgaf consumerism.
While I agree it is sad to see the planet change this way, I don't understand all this talk of "killing the planet" or "the planet's health".
The planet doesn't give a shit whether the ice melts and the water rises, or if forests disappear, or lakes shrink, etc. The planet has been here long before us, and it will be here long after us. We are just a blip in the timeline.
The Amazon rainforest didn't even start to form until 30-50 million years ago. The Earth in comparison formed 4.5 billion years ago.
We want to save animals and environments for our own sake, because we enjoy them, because we don't want to see them disappear. Not for the sake of the "planet".

Exactly. Im not trying to walk around in a toxic wasteland ya know. And I wouldnt want that for future generations either.

Some places are already toxic wastelands. Vox did an excellent documentary on Basra, Iraq and how the drying of the rivers that were once the cradle of civilization are an extremely toxic wastelands now. It's sad and you have people pushing that any notion that happens are to blame as misanthropes.
