Usually the reason they need to make new apps is because it's a new team making a new app with new techniques from the ground up. Refactoring an entire application with that information is the worst kind of torture.

So now you only need to pick up a video chat with your girlfriend if she's showing the goods.

killing it.

It's like they saw facebook making a different app for literally every possible function and thinking "holy shit we need to get in on that!"

That visual before you answer is kinda awkward tbh.

I don't... hate it? But it seems really awkward in the fact that it essentially means you've got to act, potentially for extended periods of time, to get the attention of whomever you're calling without knowing if they're looking at their phone. How long before you get bored of dancing around and being cute before you're giving your friend/loved one the middle finger?

I personally know how much of a clusterfuck that can be but keeping both is just asinine. They'd be better off killing the old Hangouts at the very least.

Allo and Duo look really cool but JESUS CHRIST GOOGLE.

Make a unifed fucking messaging app.

We have Messenger, Hangouts, Space, Allo, Duo. What the fuck?

Hangouts was on the home screen. Would they really have it there if they were killing it off? Come on, Google.

They'll just release the new apps and wait for it to pickup before they get rid of Hangouts.

It's like they release brand new apps as beta tests for new features.

It sucks for some of us but I would probably do it the same way if I was a dev team.
