Google Pixel 2 - answers are coming Oct 4th

Which is the best phone with a headphone jack with close to stock Android to buy now?

I'm most definitely not buying the Pixel2.

So is now as good as time as any to buy an Nvidia Shield if I am looking for the best AndroidTV set top box? Was hoping for a new update or device here. Any advice?

probably the one plus if you want close to stock. Its a one plus device, which means there will be something terribly wrong with it in a few months, but at least its cheaper

How come they don't have the blue for sale on the XL? Or is that already sold out?

thats a smaller pixel color

It's pretty simple actually.

They see Pixel and Google Assistant as complementary. Assistant is not available in swedish, so no Pixel.

It's really annoying to be a Swedish Android user when they give so few shits about us.

But importing a European one and using it in Sweden should be fine, right?

Just Google for Live Translation Devices, it will show you a myriad of software and hardware solutions.

I can't find any hardware solutions? Even software. Can you link anything? Maybe I'm looking wrong - all I see is that Kickstarter thing from earlier this year, I actually don't even know if those are out yet

Fuck it. Preordered an XL. Shipping on the 17th. Might end up cancelling before it ships and getting a Pixel 1 XL, but I gotta upgrade this 6P. $150 off for trading in my 6P isn't bad either.

Oh yeah I totally forgot about AndroidTV. Is it dead now or what? I feel like there's been no news relating to it in the last few years.

The normal Pixel 2 looks just like last year's Pixel, big bezels and all.

Went to look at the price and it's $900 Canadian for the base model Pixel. USD to CAD should only have it priced at $811. They're literally just charging almost $90 more for no reason.

Guess I'm holding out another year with my Priv.

It's called price hedging. The USD was buying 1.34 CAD as little as 3 months ago and 1.40 earlier on in the year. The price falls between those two exchange rates.

Not really charging it for no reason, it's the simple reality of working in foreign markets. It's risk mitigation, manufacturers will use historical prices for up to 18 months before launching to determine a price. The CAD has been terrible against the USD for the last 2 years, it's only just started turning around.

So, all this presentation did is make me want to go for a Pixel 1 XL. Are the Pixel 2 specs really that much better than the old phone or is the Pixel 1 still a smart purchase?

I went straight to wait list for the Pixel 2 XL in Australia, and I hit the page pretty much as soon as they said it was available for preorder and it was ~3:30 am here. But Google has a pretty crappy record with launch supply of their phones in Australia.

I have never seen a more tone-deaf product reveal.

It's a spy cam that's constantly taking snaps and videos just sitting there? Who is clamoring for this thing?

Wasn't gonna go in but they're offering $360 for my Pixel so I think I'll do it. Regular Pixel 2, black. XLs are way too big for me.

OK thats easy then, no need to preeorder XL. XL looks good, lot of great stuff for photographers but at 899 UKP in UK (would buy 128GB since no expansion) not gonna bother despite having the original Pixel. Even XL I think looks like ugly hardware wise against the S8+ but thats a personal style choice, it certainly doesnt look bad - but why not show off the dual speakers on stage? Thats why there is more bezel than the S8+ for example.

Almost nothing on VR except an updated headset which sounds like new colors and slightly more FOV - no hardware update like an updated controller and not a single new VR game demo'd.

AR looked impressive tech but nothing that interests me personally

And those products were pricey like the buds and the clip. Clip reminds me of the movie The Circle, super creepy.

Nothing interesting to me personally, looks like they are focusing on amazon with this.

Not sure how that exact phrase gives me pages of solutions, and nothing for you, but sure, there is just one link from those results.
Oh you just mean that? You mean language translation software has been around for years? Yeah... I guess in my mind I thought you meant there was some hardware that does was this does - you're right that I can pull out my phone and do translations right now with Google translate, but I see that as very different.

Combine that with Google's software which has recently updated and made it what's probably the best all around language translation software, I'll say that this experience is very unique - like comparing a 2 way radio to a smartphone.

Someone mentioned to me that I could get a lot more on some website than the rumored price of $200. If they keep this up, I may end up buying a new one very often.

My $400 off takes me to 500 for a new phone and one that won't go in the garbage in 2 years.
