i'm excited/interested to see google actually try to compete with samsung and apple
but god, could that thing be a less inspired design?

edit: and i wanna know what they were thinking with that weird G thing in the launcher.

That's the Google G that they've had for like a year now. They just changed it from a bar to a tab that extends.

i dont see how google can convince me its better than the s7e hardware wise.

that software better be amazing.

$650?? LOL

looks like I see some dead pixels already

Same starting price as iPhone 7......

"But the CPU isn't good". It mostly definitely is good. Not as good as A10 on paper, but the difference will not be perceivable.

And oh yeah: you're complaining about a phone that hasn't been announced yet.

This is the Google Pixel Small Variant

Venture Beat

Oh wow it just keeps getting worse. 1080p when it's presumably going to be the Daydream flagship device...for $650. These leaks are seeming fake, this stinks of managing expectations for an inflated but not bonkers price. I'm thinking $450 for the small one.

Calling the google phone as good as the iPhone becuase the soc is good is like calling a Mustang a competitor to the BMW because it has a V8 engine. Look, everything else is vastly inferior and cheap.

As someone who has an S6 that has become a busy mess that turns itself on, takes 20 seconds to activate the camera, and generally runs with the speed of a tortoise on downers, I would gladly take weaker hardware for less software bloat.

What? a quick youtube search would tell you thats pretty much not true with regards to camera in other cases than yours

As someone who's had an S6 since launch with no root and all the bloatware there....what the hell are you putting on your phone to bog it down that much? 20 seconds to activate the camera? I have yet to format my phone and it takes 2 seconds max and that's when I haven't cleared any apps.

Maybe do a factory reset. That doesn't sound normal even with a slower, less expensive phone.

May be only teased or not shown at all but Google is planning Andromeda (Merger of Chrome OS and Android) hardware in 2017:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...ning-the-andromeda-os-for-release-in-q3-2017/
I was expecting this. It makes sense and I think it will be hugely beneficial for the consumer.

I'm also expecting a complete clusterfuck of an OS owing to its first gen nature and Google being far up their own ass lately. Early adopters are in for some hardcore beta testing.

looks like they're copying the iPhone 7 and not just how it looks but also the price. Was really looking forward to a new Google phone but not looking like that and at that price. I'll probably just wait for the Galaxy S8. iphone and google are ridiculous this year.

I don't see how its possible with Apple's walled off mobile OS. Did you jailbreak it?

If this is what they were hyping up as October 4th being remembered in 8 years time..

Its a good idea to have a premium google phone, but paying a premium price for it when it is set up to data mine you as much as possible seems a bit off.

I really want to buy this but I just love my Nexus 5 form factor so much. Couldn't stand the Nexus 5X's and this doesn't look too good either.

What problem did you have with the 5X? Was thinking about getting it since the price point of the new Nexus

Just the form factor. Larger bezels and larger chins compared to the 5. That plus the yellow-y tinted screen I noticed when directly comparing with one of my friends 5X's are the only complaints I have about it, otherwise I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

If they're going to have the enormous chin at the bottom i don't see why they don't just use
capacitive buttons.

I used to like the onscreen buttons but since going from n5-s6-s7 i don't miss them at all. They just take up screen space and loads of apps don't bother to hide them as they should.

They also don't do anything like change usage per app which would be a good reason to have them.

Unbelievable, what a downgrade from the 6P. 6P might not be as sexy as the Note 7/S7 Edge but it has its own distinct "visor" look and has character. The new Pixels are so generic especially since Google just used HTC A9's outer shell...with its huge ass chin...without any function. (A9 at least had the fingerprint sensor there).

that's the thing i don't get
touting this as google's first phone. they're not just farming it out to an oem. putting their own name on it etc

and yet, they didnt design anything? they just used a slightly tweaked existing htc design. like they have done with every nexus

Pixel XL Leak

Wtf looks just like the last pic just blown up. Damn it Google

At $650 that's gonna bomb like a mother fucker.

If the background wasn't a different shade it literally would look like someone zoomed then cropped the non XL photo to get the XL photo.

Look on the bright side. You guys can pick up a cheap Pixel and Pixel XL when it bombs and Google is trying to move units.

Only thing that'll likely make me jump on one of these now is either bundled Daydream headset or the price rumors being wrong.

Going to upgrade to either a 6P, S7 or iPhone 7.

Bummer. :(

This is probably what I'm doing. I just got a 5X a few months ago. I'm not rooting for it to bomb but it's going to anyway. There aren't many 5 inch phones anymore and of the ones offered the Pixel will be the best imo.

I don't understand the point of this phone. Without the Nexus price point, you'd think they'd at least try to make it look like a 2016 flagship device.

Based on all the rumors and commercials we've seen so far, they are trying to compete with the iPhone/Samsung by marketing to consumers who get their phones via phone plans/payments (ex: The Verizon carrier rumor). Using this line of thinking, it's understandable why Google is pricing the phones this way, as Nexus pricing would be a sign to these customers that the phone isn't as good.

if that's their plan, launching exclusively on only one carrier is not the way to do this

it's like they don't care, just got a Nexus 6p so I can wait for next year, hopefully they'll go back to Motorola and do a refresh of the sexy as fuck Nexus 6 for a fair price.

If the rumor is true, I'm assuming that Verizon is going to do heavy promotion for Google in and out of their stores which may not be a bad idea for their first attempt at the iPhone/Samsung market.

I can't wait to see what the "One more thing" is on the 4th, because no way these phones are it. Gimme dat stealth Nexus launch

I really hope it does, google needs to fucking learn they can't be pricing their phones like that without offering anything extra ordinary that the current Nexus 6P doesn't have

Google VR is gonna be there. It won't just be these phones. Its gonna be Google's official foray into that whole landscape.
