It's just strange the new Pixel phones seem like a very, very meager upgrade from the already premium 6P but with a much higher price. We must be missing something. Or bomba.

I mean in terms of innards it's a big upgrade as the 820/1 won't turn your phone into a portable toaster like the 810 in the 6P.

I don't think that's worth the markup yet though.

I'm praying it's the former. Google wouldn't spend all this money just to shit the bed, right?

Lol at the bomba predictions based on a render (that looks similar to another $650 phone I know) and a tentative price.
We can only talk about rumors. Otherwise, shut the forum down. I'm certainly not writing the phones off. I hope they're great. Give me a reason to upgrade. But if the rumors are true and there's nothing else, bomba. 821 is great but not worth an upgrade great, particularly when the new phone is also a downgrade in some ways. No front stereo speakers, design not being as interesting as 6P, worse bezels.

Again, if it's worth an upgrade, we all win.

I am hoping (thinking) that there is some really slick or innovative software. I think stock Android is by far the best mobile OS and I think that only Google could customize it and actually make it better. The hardware is not significantly better than the current Nexus devices (in some ways worse) so my guess is it's the software that Google's really focusing on. I also believe that Google is heavily hinting that this is the focus with their advertising campaign where the phone is just a generic silhouette but the images inside the silhouettes are gorgeous, dynamic, and interesting.

if it's not an iphone, it's not an iphone

Google better pushing this phone with case makers if they're going premium. Only thing i hate is that nobody gets accessories like iPhone/Galaxy series.

So HTC just said "fuck it" and photocopied an iphone 5? I wish samsung wasn't making such shitty bloated software. I guess i'll ride out this galaxy s6e for a while longer and probably go iphone. fuck.

Nexus 6p owners are right, your phone is only one year old, you shouldn't be upgrading. I'm coming from the Nexus 5. My attitude is "Shut up and take my money".

Why can't they add a color that isn't just grey and white? I'd kill for an awesome grey. Admittedly, iPhones do have a great space grey color.

So I photoshop the iPhone 5 and 6 next to the pixel phone. You guys aint kidding it looks exactly like an iPhone 6 without the button.

Look forward to iPhone button sticker on ebay you can put on this phone.

Google makes these awesome cases called live cases for the 5X and 6P. I hope they will continue in the future.

Seriously no stereo speakers for a $600 phablet?!

goddamn this is typical Google arrogance

Google's last 3 phones had front facing speakers...

Also, most $600+ phablets don't have front facing speakers...

I personally hate how the iPhone looks, so this image makes me even more disappointed in these phones.

Now I know how all the people who complain phones are just slabs feel.

Or even a home button like the Galaxy's have. It's just so strange to have that much dead space on the bezel in 2016.

Problem with the Galaxy phones is when you pass your phone around for someone else to see, sometimes he/she can accidentally hit one of those side buttons (back or all programs).

Maybe we'll hear something about a bottom speaker like all those Galaxy/iPhones have, but I'd rather have it front facing.

Probably one of my biggest frustrations with these phones. Why is the chin so big if it does have a speaker, button, or fingerprint scanner on it?

Man, I smell lawsuit.

Doubt it. HTC didn't get sued for the A9.

1080p for the normal one isnt going to cut it if Google is really trying to push Daydream/Cardboard/VR

Ive read somewhere that the Pixel has a touch sensor down there but its not outlined... for example the home button on the iPhone 7 isnt really a button either, the circle is purely aesthetic.

I don't think they intend that one for VR use. Only certain phones will be certified, and I don't think the small Pixel will be.

None of the leaked listings we've seen support this. It'll probably be nothing.

Daydream isn't about getting in a pissing match with Vive/Oculus. Let's put it this way, DPI and probably overall screen quality will likely exceed PSVR.

Can't wait. Day 1 buy no question. Dumping my iPhone 6S Plus.

I've wanted them to make a Pixel phone since I bought the original Pixel Chromebook in 2013. All the Nexus phones have suffered from at least one (often many) compromises. The prospect of a truly premium non-Samsung Android phone has me excited.

The absolute lack of any creative impulse in the phone's design besides "Make it look exactly like an iPhone" is baffling. Who are they trying to appeal to with this design? If people want a phone which looks like an iPhone, they'll buy an iPhone.

1. You've only (possibly) seen one side of the phone. It has five others.

2. Who honestly cares what it looks like?

I was a longtime Android user (2009 to 2015) but switched to the iPhone last year. I strongly prefer the general Android operating system, but all Android phones are, in one way or another, lacking compared to the iPhone. You can get a Samsung phone and get something that looks great, has a great processor, great materials, etc. but the software is shit (or the battery explodes, etc) and good luck getting OS updates. Or you can get a cheap Android phone that may be "good enough" and certainly a good value for the price, but will be majorly compromised in one way or another (bad battery, bad camera, bad screen, etc).

As of right now, there's really no great Android phone out there for someone that wants a premium experience. The closest is the Galaxy S7 or the Nexus 6X but they have plenty of issues.

A truly premium Android handset is a unique and compelling offering. It can be a carbon copy replica of the iPhone 7 -- I couldn't care less.

Most people like Samsung phone software. Otherwise Samsung wouldn't be the #1 smartphone manufacturer in the world by number of handsets sold yearly.

Most people don't really care about stock Android. Otherwise Nexus phones would have sold more than a few hundred thousand or so every year.

Most important, most people associate premium with more features and not less. Samsung phones offer many more features than stock Android. That's why Galaxy is associated with being the premium Android experience, not Nexus.

iPhone is premium because out of the box, it does many things already and it does so very easily without making life hard for the owner. Part of this is Apple controlling everything about the experience but most of it is Apple offering most everything you need without needing to download apps or fiddle with settings.

Man, I smell lawsuit.

not just that. Look at the stock iOS 10 wallpaper. The areal shot of a blueish teal ocean, alongside the translucent bottom 'dock'.

but nobody needs to "smell a lawsuit". Apple doesn't feel threatened by this phone. And by now they've grown to accept that people use many of their design cues as inspiration. (Just like their iPhone 6 design was surely inspired by the HTC One line)
