Does anyone have any actual reasoning for this expectation that Hirai is the savior? It's brought up a lot, but with nothing to back it up.

Hirai headed up PlayStation 3, PlayStation Move, PSP Go, Sony's network stuff and Sony Erricson for a while. He's the savior because the take-over will happen that much sooner with him in charge.

He's been at Sony for a long time, apart of the original team at SCE and probably has the ear of the Sony board. As the head of SCEA, he was one of the main reason for the success of PlayStation in the US. He was aggressive with marketing and getting exclusives. Sony has been grooming him to become CEO for years. Once he becomes CEO, I think you'll see Sony's new plan.
