On one hand, my frugal GF who I'd never expect such a present from sized me up for months and bought this expensive toy she'd never buy herself. On the other, I can save her some money, maybe just return it for a white iPod so we both save a little.

Or should I want for a 5G iPod? iRiver?

what's the premium for the u2 version? if it's only a few bucks and you like the color scheme, them i don't see why you shouldn't just enjoy it

Hang out with Steve.
It's $50 more, but you get a $50 off coupon to buy U2's collected works (400 songs) at the iTunes Music Store. Not sure how much the collection costs.

I'll never understand why people don't consult with loved-ones beforehand on what they want on special occasions. The risk of offending someone is too great when you don't like the shit they've given you.

I had a similar problem this x-mas. All of the white ones were sold out at stores near me, and I had a major jonesing to get an iPod. I don't hate U2, but I'm not really a fan of their music.

Ultimately I wound up waiting a few days and got one that was newly returned. I'm glad I did, the white one looks really sleek.

It's such an expensive gift, and it's from your girlfriend, so I wouldn't return it since you may hurt her feelings or something. Besides, you should be protecting your Ipod anyway, so buy a colored protection case.

I almost don't even get presents anymore. I get money and gcs. Everyone knows I can get stuff so much cheaper than they can. I even end up doing the shopping for others.

She did kinda consult to me, here's a couple more details. As I said, she would never treat herself to something like an iPod. She came back from an Xmas trip home telling me that her sister wanted my opinion on MP3 players (which I totally bought cuz her sister IS indulgent and somewhat spoiled). I wanted to research the iRiver, Muvo, and Nomad but decided that the iPod was the best choice for her sister's trendy tastes and low PC experience.

So my GF was going to shop for my b-day yesterday, and I tell her not to shop for me after work, as she works late (had been doing so all week), and calls me to tell me she's leaving work as I was about to leave my job. I get home and there she is so I thought she accepted my pleas to shop for me during the weekend instead. In reality, she left work earlier, bought the iPod, called me from Best Buy instead of work, and packed it away.

Best Buy didn't have the 20GB on display and told her that the U2 set was basically free with the iPod (it's not, the set is $150 and the set "discount" is $50). We just went back, returned it, and it turned out that regular 20GB units were in stock but we went across the street to Circuit City and grabbed a 20GB unit. She's been very annoyed at BB service in the past and so have I.

So thanks for the help. :)

Edit: She knew I can probably find it cheaper online but she wanted to surprise me so that I could listen to my iPod at work the next day. Yes I realize I am very lucky.

P.S. We are U2 fans.
