I hope she did, as she chuckled clutching her red pen.
For some reason your comment reminded me of the Sonic Obama meme. I finished your sentence with '...clutching her red pen and chaos emeralds.'

Kids these days.
i physically shivered when OP said spending 2 hours on a university essay is a long time
Quite relevant.
I'm just imagining the OP like

An F is extreme. I would certainly have a discussion with the professor.
As others have pointed out to me, the required style of writing (poem) as well as the consultation with the teacher were both extremely relevant, probably more so than the fact it was a high school assignment. But not the conversation with the teacher about the word's use. Got it.

What did you think a formal essay was?
In a few years there will be a thread about some poor GAFer flunking an essay for using gifs to express their point.LMAO. Like what? Ive spent days writing something and going over everything. I honestly never thought people actually would write an academic paper like they are posting on a message board. lmao.

I checked the assignment, which more than filled the criteria and used the word fuck and shit twice to make my feelings clear and add extra concern to the topic (abuse of elderly people by whoever) and I had a lot to say about that honestly.
She commented this "name here--Cursing and swearing in your written work is not acceptable. Learn to use regular written language."
My problems with this are both words are proper English and in the course syllabus it is never stated curse words are grounds for lower grades. In my English 104 course I've used swears multiple times without penalty. Is this bias on her part or am I really supposed to censor my writing?
You should never swear in a professional essay unless you are quoting someone
hahahahaha wtfThis thread went fast... wow.
Okay, so it looks like I'm in the wrong, but, this doesn't explain why I need to censor myself as a writer. Maybe I'm simply unfiltered but I think that's a good thing, I figured in high school you'd avoid that, but in college you're an adult, you can freely write how you want and get your opinions across without having to worry if you tailor it to whoever is reading it, since it's your work. Maybe I'm getting angry about nothing however I don't understand how your choice of language is something you can be penalized for. I re-read the essay and admittedly I recognize some things that could be fixed but even with that scrutiny and barring in mind this isn't my writing course a B seems perfectly fair. Have a read but I know I'm about to get dogged on like crazy regardless. No, I'll just post the relevant uses of swears. It's partially too personally and I'm not rewriting the damn thing.
"Watching the film was really sad, quite morbid, fucked up, and too close to home"
"It went from "I don't care about you" to "fuck you" and I still feel that
way to this day"
"They're awful, sickening, fucked realities"
"The emotional problems my REDACTED still suffers from REDACTED, I've came to the point
where if REDACTED REDACTED died today, right now, I wouldn't give a shit"
"Apologizes that are all bullshit and
emotions that end up with the person hurting more and more"

You said:For the next ten years, Mathilde learned how poverty really was. With no maid, she did all the cooking, cleaning, shopping, haggling, washing, and much more. A stark contrast to what she had, and a far cry to what she dreamed of having. Mr. Loisel worked hard, paying off the piles of debt accumulated. Mathilde grew old, looked worn out, and on the whole in showed she paid her dues. Nothing could prepare her for the news she would hear from the madame after all was given back.
You said:Over the next ten years, Mathilde learned what a life of poverty truly meant. Without a maid, she found herself cooking, cleaning, shopping, haggling, washing, and carrying out many other household tasks. This new life stood in stark contrast to the previous one, and was a far cry from the one she once dreamed of having. As Mr. Loisel worked hard to pay off the massive debt that had accumulated, Mathilde grew old, and her tired appearance was evidence that she, too, had paid a price. Finally, after all had been given back, she received some news from the Madame that she could not possibly have been prepared for.
This. I did this one time on a paper in college and I got an A on the paper. It wasn't even part of the paper, just an explanation I posted at the end about why my paper was only six pages instead of the stated minimum of ten. The paper was for a media studies class, and I quoted a professor I'd had for a business law class. He was letting us go early from class one night and said it was because, "Continuing to speak when you have nothing more to say is the hallmark of an asshole." I quoted that after explaining that I had fully fleshed out my argument in fewer pages than the minimum.
99% of the time, swearing in a college essay is poor form. I do think failing the essay for swearing is a bit extreme, however.
I didn't make an argument against academic standards... at all.
I'll write off "incoherence" or you being defensive about it.
Mentioning my personal experience with notes in languages&literature varying wildly from teacher to teacher has no bearing in other subjects, let alone high school.
I only objected downgrading marks for misbehaving (you assess someone's ability to do <something>, not whether someone follows (unwritten) rules that have been violated earlier without notice), if replacing swear words with euphemisms is still F, I don't see any issue.
Dear College Professor
I apologies for my fucked up essay. I got shitfaced and hammered it out in as little time as possible.
Can I redo it?
Fucking thanks and shit

It's all too common in college for students to write papers merely hours before it's due. I did it all the time and I regret it because looking back I would enjoy taking the time out to write better material and actually learn something from an assignment instead of hacking together piecemeal thoughts from my ass and elbows.
I wouldn't have given the OP an F, but I would have taken off major points for swearing.
Agreed. I would have knocked off points for sure, but an F blanket ignores the rest of the work and quality of the paper. Or maybe the paper just sucked.I wouldn't have given the OP an F, but I would have taken off major points for swearing.
Cant wait for someone to say they wrote a paper including emojis in a formal paper and got and F and dont understand why.
I understand that. I think more of saying anything longer than 2 hours ever is too much. lol.
I think the F is symbolic for his usage of the word fuck.
I checked the assignment, which more than filled the criteria and used the word fuck and shit twice to make my feelings clear and add extra concern to the topic (abuse of elderly people by whoever) and I had a lot to say about that honestly.

You're a fucking idiot OP
Which, based on his writing excerpts, looks worse than subpar.Agreed. I would have knocked off points for sure, but an F blanket ignores the rest of the work and quality of the paper.
