Got an Odyssey2 and some extras (pix and scans)

My grandparents had this laying around in the closet, and they gave all of it to me yesterday when I visited. Pretty good condition, even had all the boxes, I was pleased :)
Maybe not the greatest gaming machine of it's time, but a nice piece for my collection. I took some pictures and scanned the brochure I found in the box for you guys to check out.

This is the voice module - eat your heart out 32x :)

You've got the voice module and you've got Type 'N Tell, so you're all set. It's ten times as fun playing around with that whacked out voice than any of the games.

Thats awesome, its almost painful to read that propaganda. I remember thinking these were pretty cool at the time. Didn't they get sued over KC munchkin?

Thanks for the memories.

When I was a kid, and we visited my Grandparents place, that was definitely what we played with the most.

I also enjoyed Sam/Reciter on C-64 for the same reasons :)

If they didn't they should have! KC Munchkin is embarrassing.

Yes. Atari sued them because KC was too close to Pac-Man, for which Atari had the home license. Magnavox lost, and had to pull all of the copies of KC Munchkin off the shelves. Shortly after, they reworked the game and came out with KC's Crazy Chase, banking that the lost Munchkin sales would transfer over to Crazy Chase. Ironicly, KC Munchkin is far more available today than KC's Crazy Chase.

As for KC Munchkin being embarrassing, it wiped the floor with the sorry excuse for a Pac-Man that Atari put out for it's 2600. Considering the era it came out, Munchkin was a damn fine game. Now get off my lawn, you troublemaking kids! :)

I like how the title of every game has an exclamation point in it.

And now that I remember, there used to be this charity thrift store my family and I would frequent every week for junk years ago, and they had these things in every week, along with a nice big case of 2600 games. Man, I wish I had discovered Ebay and been old enough to have a real job then

Bow down, PS3 and Xenon!

Technical Specs for the Odyssey 2:

CPU: 8-bit Intel 8048 (1.79MHz)
RAM: 64B (integrated in CPU)
Colors: 16 (4 on screen)
Resolution: 280x192
Sprites: 4
Sound: 1-channel mono
Game Media: 2K programmable game card

Somewhere, my father has the Odyssey light gun laying in what's probably the dustiest sotrage bin on the planet.

You guys are going to make me go dig my Odyssey2 out of my attic. I've got the system, voice box, and about 25 games. I have both KC munchkin and KC crazy chase. Those were fun games at the time. For some reason I always felt this system would be valuable someday. I think I had the most fun with Pick Axe Pete and Monkey Shines.

Wow! Thanks for the entertaining walk down memory lane. I remember wanting to play Quest For the Rings very badly when I was kid, and I never really got the chance. Great stuff!

Didn't the O2 come with the Speedway!/Spin-Out!/Crypto-Logics! cartridge? I think the idea was to show that the console could handle racing and cryptograms.

Thanks for the thread, brought back a lot of good memories. I'm sure if I play the games today, I would hate them all.

I still prefer Odyssey2 to IntelliVision, though.

Find Showdown.

That's all I have to say.

Find Showdown.

I have Showdown in 2100 AD, as seen in the pictures :) I do not get what is 2100 ad about it, though, just looks like two regular cowboy guys and some mushrooms. I suppose I will have to use my imagination and say that the mushrooms grew after years of radiation and the cowboys are both cyborgs. But that would just be lying to myself :)

Outlaw on 2600 is more fun 2P, but Showdown has AI if you don't have a player 2, which is cool.

If you can find a copy, get Pick Axe Pete. Best Odyssey 2 game.

Yes Pick Axe Pete!

Awesome game.

And K.C. Munchkin was awesome, mainly because you could make you own mazes IIRC.

I had (and still have) O2 when I was a kid.

That Rings game with the dragon and the overlay for the K/b was awesome.. forget name...

Anyway, KC Munchkin.. Sometimes(actually quite often) the dots (which move btw) would ride below the path and in the maze walls. We called them "underachievers", and this could spell ruin for your high score. lol.

I would turn the power switch on and off real quick, or insert the cartridges while power was on to try to make all kinda funky glitches. The precursor to gameshark lol.

Didn't ruin a single game.
Solid crap.
:)
