I think I'm gonna open up my copy, and install all of the updates, if not just most of them today. Wish me luck!

And I am super excited to play the career!

It took 8 hours in all to download and install the 18 patches. It wasn't a problem at all, and everything went smooth. I could just let it do it all by itself for the whole day. I quickly spent 15 minutes in it last night, and I am very impressed by the presentation and user interface. It is much better than all the prior games in the series, though I might come to miss the world map in the Career (haven't tried it yet). Got my 2 free cars as well. I wonder if there are more hidden free cars when I just started up the game?
 
Ah you've gone to DEX. Honestly that sounds like it's going to give me a huge headache especially if you're having trouble with it. lol. Taking screens with cfw is a pain in the ass though.

I'm already having trouble with the mysis recording plugin. I can change the resolution fine or look at the button prompt menu with L1, but pressing r3 doesn't record anything.

Switching to Dex is easy with rebug toolbox, it only takes a couple of minutes and I have no trouble running GT6 on PS3 Dex, it's just that if you want to use the superior PC image capture function you have to launch the game from the computer, this is causing the trophy reg error. I've tried everything but nothing works :(

Net Cheat has a plugin for PC side image capture but you have to manually find the frame offset.


As for the recording plugin did you press the PS button to bring up the xmb in game, then press the record button?

Cool, I'm on rebug as well. Haven't had the chance to mess around with it much, but hopefully I'll get some more time and get some research done. Keep me updated if you make any progress with the PC capture function though... :p

Well, clearly PD's got some ground to make up with Turn 10 and SMS. That E3 trailer didn't make want to run out and buy an Xone, but it did make me just a little bit more frustrated with Kaz. Sony's up in a few hours. Kaz better take the stage.

What are LGs packing?

I've never seen memory usage go over 200MB for GT6, it always hovers around the mid 190s in the debugger, so what sort of VooDoo is this? I thought PS3 games had 400-450 MB available?

These days anything north of a pocket calculator has more RAM than a PS3. Granted, things escalated quickly with the introduction of smartphones so its hard to entirely blame Sony for it.

The FM6 trailer looked nice, but it could have been an expansion for FM5 if you had told me without context. Turn10 may be the ones dealing with an anemic box this time around.

FM6 announcement was underwhelming. No dynamic weather/time of day either.
24 player online was nice though.
 
I didn't really expect GT to be there. I assume PD want to keep the time between announcement and release short like GT6.

Hopefully we'll see it next year.
 
GTPlanet. Something like a Turn 10 rep saying that the Porsches won't be added to Forza 6 until next year when the contract is up.

I seriously doubt that tbh. Porsche will be locked up as quickly as the NFL license if both rumors are to be true around desired licenses at EA.

And tbh? I really could care less. The only thing loss with the absence of Porsche is the racing models. I'm pretty content with RUF.
 
Seems like EA's contract with Porsche expires next year.

It expired around the time GT5 was in development in 2009-early 2010 also but was quickly renewed by EA.

I honestly cant see EA dropping the license. Its not like they're in a dire financial situation and my speculation is whatever MS/T10 is paying EA to have Porsches in Forza games more than likely pays for the license itself.

The only thing that was never explained is why other studios cant get in on the Porsche sub-license. Is EA asking too much $$$? Does MS have a clause in their agreement that only allows them to get a sub-license from EA and no one else. Who knows.
 
If other EA license contracts are anything to go by, they are 5yr+ and with first option to renegotiate. Since the past supposed renews Porsche maintained the "exclusivity", it seems they are happy with whatever EA offers.
The rumor that the contract expires next year may not mean much.

Turn 10 being first-party probably helps - not just with the financial clout, but also from the whole EA/Microsoft ongoing back-scratching business relationship. Also, I believe MS sub-licensed Ferrari to EA a few years ago when they held that license, so there may be some form of goodwill left over from that.

If EA buys exclusivity of the Porsche license again then someone needs to ask them why. It's easy to understand why they have the FIFA license or the NFL license, but the Porsche license makes no sense at all. They really don't seem to put it to much use (Rivals had more Ferrari's and Lamborghini's than Porsche's), other developers really aren't sublicensing the cars from them much and it's obvious that it has no real impact on sales. So what's the point?

The story I heard once was that there was an exec at EA who was super-chummy with one at Porsche, from which gamer misery was born.
 
It was meant to be released on its own first with with the gps part coming later, I still think the gps thing was going to be 'Go to this area in Andalucia, and you can map out your own journey in Andalucia!' just like their other gps features in the game which must be useful for about 10 people in total.

The roster has so many holes at this point that Porsche is one of many rather than a glaring omission. I remember looking at the Top Gear lap board of all things a couple of years ago and the grand total of cars that are in GT that the top 10 consisted of? One. That was the vanilla Veyron way back when. And that's just the production cars. At a cursory glance, the amount of different segments represented is vast. But the bulk of that is now out of date.

Nah, GT has a good distribution of production cars by age and performance types. What I see is a stronger preference by users towards (high end) sports cars, and then when you slice it, it will look small.
It does miss the pace in overall representation entering this past decade though. But I guess it's the nature of modelling resources.

There's a case for classic cars from different race leagues too, but that's more from a comparison vector. "Why does RRE has so many cool race cars that GT doesn't?" but the reversed question isn't asked.

Porsche gets mentioned because it's the huge brand no one has.

I'm fine with the car list personally. Right now the cars in GT6 which have the top 10 top gear lap times are the MP4-12C, Huayra, Veyron, and Aventador. I do hope they add in more GT3 race cars though.

It's easy if you know how to solder. If not and you want to go non-solder method with E3 Flasher, it's a HUGE pain in the ass. It's not a difficult procedure, but the clip required to attach to the nor chip needs a lot of pressure, and even then the thing might not even want to read so you end up with error codes.

For a game that is kinda "car encyclopedia", I find weird the omission of many "cult" cars (in premium form).

Some examples:

alfa romeo giulia gta
bmw e30
mercedes 190e evo
nissan skyline 2000 GT-R
nissan 240Z
bmw 2002
toyota supra
mini cooper
jaguar e-type
 
A look at this years FoS sculpture. Probably to be added to the game during the maintenance.

It's things like that, which I love about PD, the fact that they do update the details of things in the game even after launch.

Have to say F6 is looking pretty great right now, may convince me to grab the XB1 finally.
