Gran Turismo Creator talks PS3

So yeah, I could imagine wind affecting physics as well as giving players dynamic wind sound (especially important when you're travelling at high speeds).

Damn didn't think about that. Imagine driving at 150 mph and hearing the wind pick up and blowing your car about 6 inches to the left.

I saw that video. Next gen things about that trailer: two GT5 car models, implementation HDR lighting on the PS2 tracks, 3d crowd/crew and it displays more cars on screen. It's not the GT5 engine but I believe it's the beefed up GT4 engine simply running on PS3. There will be a night and day difference between GT5 and vision GT.
That pic is from the E3 build, or somewhere thereabouts. There were two other slides like that. One for Lotsa Ducks and the other for Alfred Molina. Like GT2000, VisionGT is just a demo of what they want to implement in the final engine. Yes, GT5 will be streets beyond what we're seeing now. I thought the wind sim stuff was a bit odd, but I can't see PD using it just for trees and other bg items.

It's been years since I played GT3, but I don't remember there being spoiler adjustments in that game. I hope they bring it back to GT1 with the lightweight kits that let you put on full racing kits with adjustable spoilers. You were able to adjust the drag coefficient this way, which could be more vital on tracks with long straights. It might be advantageous on certain days to run little spoiler if the wind is blowing into your face on the straight, and sacrifice downforce elsewhere in order to maximize speed for overtaking in that section. And so on. I'd like aerodynamics to get some attention, although modeling a realistic aero model in realtime at 60fps is still a ways away. But if anyone is gonna do it, it's PD: Kings Among Men. :D PEACE.

PD needs to hire you man. I actually think that's what PD will target for with this wind simulation. I think they can do it.

When this is possible in 2004 and early at that, i have no doubts anyone like PD, Bizaare, Eden and the forza team can get photorealistic.

But those don't look even remotely close to photorealistic, Ryudo, 2004 or not.

Personally, I think the word "photorealistic" gets thrown around waaaay too much, as if people forget what that actually indicates.

That is not photorealistic, neither is GT4 or Forza, neither is Project Gotham 3, and for my money Gran Turismo 5 won't be anywhere close (and no, those pics we saw from TGS from the only cars finished from GT5 weren't close either). There are so many flaws and aspects that fail to come close to real life, even as a still, that I think it's overused hyperbole at this point. I've only seen a render or two in my entire life that even approached photorealism, and even they had eerily creepy qualities that detracted from it.

PD to PS3 is what AM2 was to Saturn. I have know doubt they'll love getting to the metal of the system and blow everyone out of the water. I just hope they don't forget to add the fun. GT's offerings this gen have been a little to technical and dry for my taste. I haven't a clue how they could infuse some personality into a game like this. I still think it needs it.

Photorealistic... not this gen. Maybe it could give the appearance of it and fall apart in close inspection.

I disagree, i think elements of these pictures indeed to come close to photo realism. To call them not even remotely close is too harsh.

I dunno, I guess maybe living in this really real world of mine has made me biased! But since I see plenty of weak textures, breaks, 2D foilage, imperfect cars, polygons, and even unconvincing lighting, I can't quite say it's even in the same ballpark as photorealism! Indeed, the same applies for Project Gotham 3 (and the only GT5 car models we've seen).

We are not there yet. We won't be there next gen. In fact, I highly doubt we'll be there in the PS3, Rev2, Xbox3 gen either.

But like I said, I'm biased living in this really real world of mine.
