Granblue Fantasy: Relink has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide (currently 60% off on both Steam and PSN)

It was a pretty good game, definitely among the better game last year. Spend a few dozen hours on it and beat everything besides the new op boss in the free dlc.

Hope to see a sequel as I did enjoy the story and the enemies plus the art style.

There are approximately 2.5 - 3 million JRPG fans left alive globally.

Yea it seems its very difficult for jRPGs to pass 2M mark. Metaphor refantazio was Atlus' fastest selling jRPG and I don't think it even scratched 3M sales yet? Persona 5 series with 10M units is the OG + royal + strikers + dancing in starlight + tactica. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was 1.86M as of early 2023, probably >2M by now but nothing extraordinary.

this game has an ending? There is a story?
Yeah, there's a SP campaign with big set pieces that takes around 15 hours to complete. After that, you unlock the endgame, where you can take on missions either solo or with other players to fight bosses, upgrade your weapons, and unlock more characters and build them up. There are also a bunch of side quests/activities you can tackle during the SP campaign or afterward (more quests unlock after completing the campaign, but I didn't bother with them since I was happy just finishing the main story and moving on to something else).

Yes. The game is structured in chapters and the story guides you through different mission à la older monster hunter games where you accept most of them in the quest counter. Story missions do take you to more open areas, but most of bosses missions are done in arenas with Final Fantasy XIV-lite MMO mechanics. Combat is varied in the sense that each character fuctions like a different weapon in Monster Hunter and the gameplay is more fast-paced where you have things like perfect-guard and perfect-dodge mechanics to keep the offense going at all times on higher level content.

The story is very basic JRPG stuff if you are not already into the Granblue IP as they drop you at the middle of your journey where the crew is already established, so you'll feel a bit of an outcast if you never had any contact with the brand beforehand. They do somewhat of an attempt to present characters to new players in fate stories that are visual novel-like segments that can spam through multiple mini-quests centered around each character (with added permanent bonuses to their stats, so you're encouraged to do them). Gear progression is very satisfying as skill trees are ginormous for each characters, so it can be a little overwhelming to new players as they attempted to translate 1:1 many of the mobile gacha mechanics into a proper ARPG (which works as the Granblue IP is heavily inspired by Final Fantasy).

It was good for what it was, but I was disappointed with the very short support it received. It would have been nice if they released a few more characters, quests or even story DLC.

It may be true that there are only 3 million jrpg fans left or maybe people have that many jrpgs left in their backlog that they stopped buying new ones.

Nice, it was one of my favourite games of last year. At this point I don't think we will get an expansion, so I hope they are working on a sequel at least.

The single player campaign was surprisingly enjoyable. It starts slow but then it ramps up significantly and it never stops. A fun short romp.

I was thinking about this game the other day but forgot the name of it.
It's currently £20 on PSN and Steam, will probably get the Steam version.

The PS5 version is unfortunately stuck at 1080p for the 60fps mode with no pro support, so with a 9600XT you're easily in the 1440p90+ range.

Just bought the special edition on Steam :messenger_bicep: Why is it only 1080p on PS5? :messenger_weary:
That's a good question. The quality mode is native 4k so it's a little surprising performance mode couldn't be in the 1440p or thereabouts range. Maybe they prioritized a completely locked framerate or they just couldn't be bothered to tweak things and called it a day at 1080p. I was really hoping for pro support as just adding PSSR alone would have been a big jump like Rebirth, but the game's support in general felt like it was cut short way before the pro released.

If a switch 2 version is in development, maybe they will patch super resolution in the other versions of the game.

The 1080p here is not terrible, as the game is going for a painting art style. 1440p would have been great though.

If it's done by the original team and not farmed to a different studio for a port, it's probably the last chance but I won't be holding my breath. Honestly, even at 1080p it looks "fine" with its artstyle, but I always felt it could still be much better.

I didn't finish It. There's was a good game in there somewhere but the Monster Hunter and Gacha mix was weird

Thats very respectable number compared to for example last mainline entry in ff series, ff16 that officially sold only 3,5m copies, and thats with pc port included =D

Thanks for the heads up. Can't go wrong at 60% off when I've wanted to buy this game for a while.

Fun game! The little flying dragon guy was insufferable, I wish there was a patch to fully remove him from the game entirely.. every other aspect is quality.

This game is so good. So sad they didn't support it longer. It's PSO/MH meets MMO raid fights...for every boss.

I think this might not be far off the mark to be honest.

1-3mil seems to be the remaining enthusiast crowd who will pick the games up within the first month or two of release.

Then there's probs a few mil JRPG fans who are not maniacs and will pick up the more higher acclaim / big budget titles within the first year or two.

Then there seems to be a few mil people who on good word of mouth will check them out when the games are on sale, several years after release.

At least that's what some of the higher selling JRPG numbers tell you, aka FF7R-1, Persona 5, Nier Automata etc... with sales in the region of 7-10mil a few years post release.

Hopefully titles like Clair Obscur can bring in a new audience who will become curious to try other titles, as the genre will need it to survive.
