Grandia 3 for PS2

Looks really great with high production values!

Though, personally I may be the only one here actually let-down by the pics. It's fantastic looking but it's the biggest FFX,FFXI,FFXII rip-off I've ever seen. Grandia had it's own style and flair with it's colorful worlds. So it's a little sad seeing them basically copying FFXII :(

...I just pissed in my pants!!!! <please let the story somehow tie in to 1 and 2...>

My impressions, exactly...

Looks great, but it doesn't really feel like Grandia to me. :-/

OMFG. That is really beautiful. I loved grandia 2, Really liked 1, and hated Xtreme. I'm praying, hoping, that this is just as good as the first two.

And Bebpo, how doesn't this look like Grandia? The world detail is much higher than the characters, as it's always been, the characters are drawn anime-esque as opposed to realism (with Anime heads in the text boxes as well). I grant you that it isn't all that colorful like the series, but to me it just looks like a graphical step up for the current generation as opposed to looking anti grandia.

I think it's more that it looks realistic just like FFXII does. Grandia was never about realistic looking people in realistic worlds. Grandia was always about colorful fantasy land. I dunno, everything from the battle cameras, to the gauges, to the field maps, to the "main character has[wants to have] his own ship and fly in the skies" is all ripped straight from FFXII. Even the end pic with the sword + logo + feathers looks like it could've been taken from an early FFX ad.

Don't get me wrong, it looks great. But it also looks like the future of gaming when everything has to convert to a realistic mature look in order to sell.

OMG. Yes you guys surely did get owned hard. Half you I wonder if even rpg fans as 80 percent of time your bitching nonstop about everyone :lol Regardless, simply gorgeous and must have! Thanks so much for info and pics

I dunno, I liked Grandia II okay but Grandia I bored me to tears. Grandia III looks like a game for teenagers/adults, while Grandia I was one for kids ... but I think the tone looks the same. I still get the sense of "an expansive world full of adventure" on GIII. The fact that it has this new non-SD look makes it look more exciting and adventurous to me. This is a really good direction for the series.

I agree on that. It seems we be quite limited artisticly in future with fans nowadays thinking their penis will fall off if they play game dont look photorealistc and such. I have strongly disagree Grandia 1 was just for kids, good explain of riding off game just by looks or early feel. Though at same time I dont think G3 looks that much mature. I still see alot parts of color or old grandia in some pics.

Yes I agree with you. Still haven't played Grandia I but Grandia II's story was pathetic. The last dungeons sucked so hard damnit, but the battlesystem was awesome.

This looks great.

btw: Does the mag have Code age scans or what?

It looks amazing. When I saw Phantasy Star Universe pics in EGM, I thought: 'PS2 RPGs can't look better than that.' But amazingly enough, Grandia III does. I can't believe this is a PS2 game. This is a huge graphical jump for the Grandia.

OMFG! It's true! It's true! And it looks absolutely gorgeous! This will be a great year for me! First the new Shadow Hearts, than Grandia 3. Now bring it over in a timely manner!

Looks stunning... can't wait, hopefully it returns the Grandia series to it's 32bit glory.

Anyway, I'm a bit confused about Square Enix publishing? I thought Gung Ho had bought out Enix's stake in GameArts (11.93% of the company actually)? Squre Enix still has their interest? Will Square Enix also be publishing Project GO and GA's DS RPG then?

I grant you it's not as colorful, which I mentioned, but the characters don't look realistic to me. There's even an elf chick with anime eyes in one shot. And to be fair, An adventurous main character who wants their own ship is pretty atypical in games like this. Sounds alot like Justin from G1, actually, but I was more instantly reminded of Skies of Arcadia, which graphically is similar to the Grandia series. Either way, I don't think we'll have to worry about being disapointed less the pull an Xtreme on us.

It looks beautiful. Quite the swansong for the PS2 don't you think?

Although hopefully it won't have terrible voice acting and a shitty storyline/characters.

And those character designs look HOT. DAMN THE HATERS! POWER TO THE EMPIRE!

How is this in any way a swansong for the PS2? It's coming out Summer this year, very likely even BEFORE FFXII. The PS2 has a good 2 years left at least. A little early to speak of "swansongs". :D

SWANSONG!

Hopefully the story will be more like disk 2 of Grandia than the rest of the series :P Always loved the dungeons and battle systems in the Grandia games... and the screens look fantastic. Between this, Shadow Hearts III, Radiata Stories, DQ8 and FFXII, I'm really excited! Ever notice how the best RPGs always coming out in the late years of a system?

Character art is still very much Grandia-style.

OMG, I am humbly owned in the face by GIII. :o

A Grandia with high-end visuals, and supported by what will probably be the best RPG battle system ever? Jesus fuck.

No way this game comes out before FF12.

...

*prays that it does*

Holy! Grandia is the game that has brought me on the path of a gamer!
This announcement almost makes me die!

Is there any information one the composer already?
Will it be Iwadare again? I honestly hope so!
Please, the great comeback of the true master beside Uematsu. *g*

Sounds like it worked...

WASN'T GRANDIA XTREME MATURE ENOUGH 4 U DOOD?

Anyway, this game looks great. It doesn't feel like Grandia, but as someone who was just complaining about the utter lack of ACTUAL GameArts games, not outsourced crap, I can't help but weep with glee. I'll be importing this, in spite of an inevitable North American release.

How can you say that the characters look like FFXII?

Maybe not as SD like in the previous installements , but still very manga alike .

Seeing the "Square Enix" logo on the Grandia III logo page is kinda weird, but having looked at those scanned on Jeux-France, I can say with some confidence that there are definitely parts that still remind me heavily of Grandia. This just became my most-anticipated game, I've been waiting so long...

Oh shit, now look what you did. My pants are wet.

I LOVED Grandia 2 (I sadly missed out on the first - I know, I know), but I'm going to be all over Grandia 3 like a bad rash.

I , m hope they get Noriyuki Iwadare again for the OST of the series , the soundtracks of both Grandia were awesome .

Is this Square-Enix's "major announcement"? If so :lol

What?! Fuck off...

What the hell did you expect?! Final Dragon Valkyrie Star Quest Profile Gears Fantasy XII?

Grandia > Grandia X >>>>> Grandia II.

Biggest dissapointment for me in all of gaming was Grandia II.

On the other hand, once it clicked, Grandia X was an excellent dungeon crawl spinoff.

It's really awkward for me to see a new GameArts title anyhow. I lost my fanboy stripes for GameArts years ago. And while that is sad, with the massive changes GAF underwent it wouldn't be as fun anyway. :p No more random forum RPG brawls with the old school GAF RPG folks, oh well.

But it's really good to see them productive again. I'll nab it day one, of course.

Correct!

Haha take it easy guys. I was just expecting something major. I dont see Grandia 3 as something that big. I wanted FFVIII-2 dammit :(
