Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Jesus. lots to consider. Well, i can definitely wait. Will probably see if I can stretch the budget to something like a 5080. Path/Ray Tracing, 4K res, 30fps is all im after.

But if not I can always buy a cheaper GPU (5070/RTX 9070) and upgrade it later ..... right?

Keep in mind i'm coming from a base PS5, everything will probably look insanely good to me
Im guessing u wanna futureproof ur gpu a bit, 30 or 60 u dont wanna be stuck on 12gigs vram so yup, go for 5070ti and later u can always go pedal to the metal if u think its not enough.
For 60 fps u dont need crazy strong cpu's, u saying 30 so even better, w/e modern cpu u gonna go with it will be good enough for many years, keep in mind raytracing does have some additional cpu cost, i saw it clearly back in the day where old trusty 8700k from 2017 could keep cp2077 at 60 w/o rt but as soon as i turned on rt, even at 720p, i got dips to low 50s.

But again u focusing on 30fps makes any modern cpu plenty strong, gpu will be bottleneck here, since u going for 4k and maxed settings/rt too.
Problem with pre-builds is- those are prebuilds so they wont cater to ur specific needs, especially not best buy prebuilds so it wont be that ez finding strong gpu weak cpu prebuild and ofc u know urself now- u need as strong gpu as u can only afford here.
Edit:
Here proper pc specs that would be much better for ur specific needs, aka modern but midrange cpu, but 5070ti gpu, still under 1,5k usd

Remember those pre-builders are smart ppl, they will put lots of stuff in those pc's to market it as world's 8th wonder but for ur specific needs u simply need everything baseline but modern with good upgrade-ability future options and as strong gpu as u can afford :D
If u got more budget simply switch to this rtx 5080 and voila:
Under 2k usd 5080 build, u can ofc decide u want 2tb ssd instead(that would be my first choice if i had more spare cash) or different case/64gigs of ram but those are small/relatively cheap things/final touches, nowadays gpu, especially if u going highend will always be bulk of the price.

Just an addendum, go for the 5070 Ti, the difference between it and the 5080 is less than 15%, but it costs about 30% more.

Still bummed about Mafia The Old Country. Had they shown the game as is from the beggining I would buy it day one no question. I'm expecting Mafia Remake quality and I would be happy to get that. But that downgrade BS really rubs me the wrong way and now I don't want to support the game.

I don't know why you expect this studio to optimize the console version of their game well, when they said that the new patch has updated optimizations on PC.

All they did was remove native resolution and then force upscaling. It's impossible to achieve the actual 100% native resolution with this patch. The performance boost simply comes from the developers lowering the internal resolution cap. The resolution slider is a lie.

And the game was built using Unreal Engine 5.1, there's almost no chance that the game will run well on console.

That's an old ass UE5 build. It will take a lotta of work to fix the game, if that's even possible. Migrating the project to a newer UE5 build one mid development would probably be less work (no clue here, just a guess).

We'll be getting quite a few UE5 games over the next weeks/months, it will be interesting to see which version each game runs in.

So Until Dawn 2024 is not perfect; it's buggy, animations are stiff, it's buggy, performance is hit-or-miss, it's buggy... did I mention it's buggy?

BUT, I will say that character models/facial detail are absolutely top notch and are among the very best in gaming, right there with Hellblade II, The Last of Us Part II, and others.

Here's some of my shots:

It's a shame, the game is frequently stunning but it's unpolished state holds it back. If Sony would've delayed the game 3-4 months I think it'd have a very different reputation (not to mention the sequel that's probably no longer going to happen). Instead, Ballistic Moon is effectively closed and the game has been abandoned.

Wait for release. I'm 90% expecting the game to look fine on PC while being "downgraded" (as in not downgraded at all but always been like this) on consoles.

I wasn't very impressed with the graphics at the starting area, but later on, there are many locations that really impressed me. Hope they will update Photomode soon.

I really hope that is the case but usually the difference between console quality modes and PC are not as dramatic as what we've seem with the Old Country. Anyway, we'll get our answers next week.

This looks amazing

Bloober's walking sim games always looked pretty good to my eyes. Particularly Observer and the Layers of Fear series.

So cool that they are doing actual combat now. Cronos looks like what I wanted out of Callisto Protocol, but we shall see if they pull it off. Silent Hill 2 being as good as it was has me hopeful they will.

They truly up their standards after sh2 masterpiece

Just played and finished Luto, honestly one of the best looking games I've ever played in my life ngl. Assets are insane and so is the lighting (no RT). Also pics don't do it justice because these are pictures saved through Steam with artifacts etc.

This looks incredible but I have a quick question, how scary is this game? On the scale of....
  • P.T. (Near heart attack level of scary due to the level of realism)
  • Resident Evil 7 demo and intro in VR (Near P.T. level due to level of immersion)
  • Amnesia (Pretty damn scary)
  • Silent hill scary (Scary enough, but scare factor can decrease due to annoying combat)
  • Older Resident evil including jump scares (not too scary because you slowly get more powerful)
  • Five Nights at Freddys (Mostly scary for kids)
  • Resident Evil 4, 5, 6 (scary at the very beginning but you are an action hero)

Haha I like these way of summarizing so comparing becomes easier 🤣 However, I'd say it's neither unfortunately! The game HAS scary moments but the player is immediately taken out of those moments because they added a narrator that constantly talks and he sounds like something from a Disney adventure movie. Look up some videos online and you'll see for yourself how absurd it is!

Note however that you can't look up footage from the demo because the demo didn't have the narrator. They added it to the full game.

Edit: it was so had, I went to options and turned "Voice" to 0. That way, the narrator shut up (and I could read the subtitles instead), but then I missed every other dialogue in the game 😅

Lol a last-gen game (Uncharted 4) puts the new UE5-powered Mafia to shame, no wonder it's priced at $50 in today's economics, if that's what people want, lower prices for subpar experiences then they asked for that, it feels extremely incomplete, trite, banal & lacks depth.

Yeah sadly the more i see the more uninterested i get. Kinda sad, because i love the mafia games and i waited years for a new one, but this looks like a really low budget and a really short experience :(

Looks like rofif finally got perma'd. For making light of the oblivion creator dying of cancer lol

The funny thing is that he was defending a joke that someone else made. The guy who made that joke isnt banned but rofif somehow managed to make it all about himself and got himself perma'd. Typical.

I dont like seeing thread regulars get banned and we've lost many recently. RIP Schemendrik, arkhamguy, but rofif is the one guy who had it coming.
He had been asking for it ever since he made that troll revealing post about how graphics having too much detail is bad. Here of all threads. He knew what he was doing. Dont get me started on his follow up post here about how ps4 graphics are good enough on a new $500+ new console.....like I said he knew what he was doing.

There was also a recent trend of him trolling other threads all of a sudden.

I dont get what the point of these Long Con Trolls is but atleast the mods didnt stay asleep forever.

I mean is there anything out there that beats CP2077 use of path tracing?

Newer isn't always better.

Slimy snake will have a lot to answer for after having tried to hype this game so much, notably over Death Stranding 2
You can only go by what is shown. There is no reason for a linear Mafia game to look that bad on UE5, even with all of UE5's troubles. It is one of the biggest downgrades I have ever seen. Pure scum from Take 2

Also, there was a report yesterday that CDPR hired outside help to fix their own issues with UE5 engine on The Witcher 4. It is very concerning at this point. So many developers switched to UE5 in recent years. This industry is fucked if they cant iron out the kinks in this engine

lol i didnt make the game.

the game looked great before when i thought it looked great. it doesnt now and im no longer in denial about it. im not rofif, im not going to will this game into looking good.

Mafia's visual quality has dropped catastrophically, it's really frustrating. I remember being quite satisfied with the first trailer.

U can see right at the start: in engine cinematic rendered for trailer.
Aka full fat bullshot :D
It was looking worse from gta6 trailers tho so we somehow believed its not cgi and actual game gonna look if not like that then at least somehow comparable, which ofc we know isnt the case =D

these stuttering issues are PC related and trace back to DX implementations. this has nothing to do with visuals or the downgrade we are seeing in mafia.

hell, we dont even know if the downgrade is limited to consoles because footage provided as early as last month looked great.

Not sure what you guys keep going on about. The in-game stuff never looked impressive in initial Mafia trailers. Some of the devs showed a few impressive scenes in their vlogs, but those were either total bs or reserved for high end PC. Regardless of the graphics, animations looked terrible from the start. Anyone who had hopes for this game must have no idea how mediocre Hangar 13 is in AAA space.

I told him more than once that he's losing his head. The guy was clearly on some emotional streak and I would imagine something in his personal life wasn't going well. Hope he gets it together and is alright, but I sure am ain't gonna be missing him here, lol.

I really don't think he was trolling. He's just a weird guy.

Honestly I liked him and he'll be missed, but a ban was clearly inevitable with his posting traits.

Jesus christ when you put it like that. clearly a troubled individual regardless of whether or not he was trolling.

i do miss arkhamguy who actually was fairly open about his mental health struggles but never let it seep into this thread. Sadly, he made one tiny mistake and was perma'd for it. Schmendrik was as normal as it gets and also banned on a whim so its frustrating to see rofif squander all the chances he was given by the moderation team.

This looks amazing

I was one of the first ones to big up the game's visuals here, but the more I see the more I'm unimpressed. They have reused way too many assets from Silent Hill 2, it's especially apparent indoors. It just looks repetitive, uninspiring and bland.

Both this and SH2 have that Polish eastern European look to them that I'm not a fan of, not when games aren't set in that region. Like SH2 was set in US and you have environments that look like the game was set in Poland, now they're doing the same here.

this trailer was released just a day after the DS2 previews went live, and the gameplay sections still look fantastic.

i did a 180 on DS2 after those previews, and i believe it was the same day when kojima and his tech director said the ps5 wasnt a big leap from ps4 so they didnt even bother upgrading the visuals. Then i saw this trailer and it was clear that the asset quality and lighting was a step above from DS2.

The latest previews of Mafia look really off. The lighting especially the shadows and AO feel like they are completely missing. I have never seen a lumen game look this baked.

Lastly, lets say that the game ends up looking this bad even on PC. Ok, i will be the first one to criticize them, but id rather studios try and fail while investing in new technologies than not even try or put their hands up saying we didnt even bother.

Insane looking game, how some can say Mafia looks better baffles me

its a good looking last gen game like HFW, RDR2, RE8 Village, and TLOU2. Those games still look great.

But this thread is about graphics fidelity i expect this gen, not last gen. And i did not expect this from what is effectively a Sony first party studios game.

And a Kojima game, someone who has historically tried to push the bar forward with visuals.

This game is set in Poland - alternate timeline. Medium was set in Poland and Observer as well (retro cyberpunk future).

SH2 looks like SH2 (but modern), it always had that "communist color scheme" even in Japanese original. Place is clearly based on American towns.

Oh, didn't know Chronos was set in Poland. SH2 indoors though, they definitely have eastern European setup. I'm not seeing anything American in SH2 when it comes to decor and furniture indoors. The only way they get away with it in SH2 is because old eastern European look fits the oppressive nature of the game.
