Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Tried showing this to a couple normie friends, they all thought shots like the castle one from Oblivion looked cool but were quite unimpressed with the character shots. "It looks like those AI reels spammed all over instagram" is the gist of the feedback I got.
The majority of the comments online also seem to be bashing on nvidia, we'll see how it is looks at launch but I think they may have shot themselves in the foot by focusing so much on humans. If it had none of that most people would probably just think this is a more advanced version of Path Tracing.
 
Guys I do not believe that we have reached it THIS SOON! I literally could not believe what I was seeing when Jensen showed it live, the visual jump is so big people on the internet cannot comprehend it yet. So many performative idiots though not understanding that this tech is extremely malleable and can fully preserve the "stylizations" of all art-styles like Minecraft, High On Life 2, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and so on…but upgrade them to the quality of a high-end Pixar movie or even the Mario Movie. The materials, textures & lighting are absurd. Absurd!!

That said, they should hand-tune it a bit, the Leon example looked perfect! Grace though looked a bit too Instagram-y, I know it's early in-progress thing and whatnot, but yeah this looks unbelievably amazing!

I will also say that ideally, they should've announced a completely new game that showcases this tech and not implement it into already seen & played games like Starfield or RE9, people already have an idea of how those games played and looked like, so when they see a truly stark difference, they'll scream "artistic integrity" without knowing what exactly happens because "it's AI & AI is slop" and "companies hate you" and all that nonsense.

Phantom Blade 0 will have DLSS 5, that could be a great showcase for the game since no one played the game yet and we haven't seen very much from it.

Aren't engines also limit & "filter" what artists can do THROUGH them? Look at Elden Ring's concept art and look at the game, they look worlds apart, in actual fact, the DLSS 5 model looks way closer to the concept intended art than the game engine render. I cannot believe the amount of cope people are huffing right now, and his profile picture is Cloud, the guy that had a pre-rendered CGI in the intro cutscene of FF7 Remake which looked light years better than the game

DLSS 5 can bridge that gap and close it. WTF is he on? 😭😭

this is why i think they shouldve just focused on adding path tracing to non-path traced games first instead of releasing a photorealistic filter that completely changes the look of the game. or make path tracing cheaper in general.

As I understand it it's all tweakable but this showcase is like with all the options enabled so it looks dramatically different. I assume the original textures could be left intact if they wanted to and only affect the lighting.

The interesting question is would it be as efficient as implementing real PT? Ray reconstruction and denoisers vs gen AI. Theoretically I think it should be..
 
Looks like artists will be wasting their time adjusting sliders and trying to get the look of the game to match their original art work.

As with path tracing, Nvidia is paying off a handful of developers/publishers, but unlike path tracing which is mostly done by nvidia engineers a couple of months before launch, this will be pawned off to the developers who will be forced by the publishers to integrate this into their games. I can feel bad for artists already lol Artists hate AI slop far more than consumers do.

But this also means that by the time this thing launches, the games will look much better than they do today. Im guessing the faces will be taken care of to ensure they dont look like they were generated by Sora AI.

BTW, AI slop faces have already been fixed by the AI modding community. You just need to train the models on girls that look normal with freckles and under normal lighting conditions. I've seen some AI models that produce very realistic looking girls with all the imperfections that make women beautiful without makeup. Cant post them here because all of them are nude lol but they dont have the AI slop look anymore. And its just a bunch of horny nerds training their models on realistic looking women. Nvidia just needs to train their models better.

Im honestly surprised some people here seem to be impressed by dlss5.
We're literally looking at a glorified tiktok filter with higher lighting accuracy...... Which needs a metric ton of performance for that, too.
It's slop... And I hate that word.
Better put that power behind more rays and bounces.

Some look bad some look good, there is time to perfect the tech, did dlss1 looked like dlss 4.5?
 
This is like trashing a game for its graphics when some alpha build screenshots leaks.
They should have waited to show this off then. Some of this stuff is almost nightmare fuel.

I feel like some people won't see the problem here until they apply version 1.0 of this tech to a Souls game or something.
 
Someone needs to show nvidia this. You dont need to train your models on photorealism. Just train on the game itself and fix the imperfections. Enhance whats there, and everyone will buy in. Overhauling everything takes away from the magic of seeing something like this for the first time knowing devs spent decades getting better skill wise and tech wise to get to this point.

This tech is the future whatever people's like it or not and I believe this will blur the line between realtime and cgi
 
We trying to convince eachother that its good/bad tech but in reality im sure it will take solid few years before majority of games and players actually experience it(not in nvidia presentation or watching yt vid of gpu they cant afford, but actually in the game they are gonna play combined with reasonable setting/iq).

This keynote feels like back in august 2018 that first raytracing keynote and we all know it didnt become common, not to mention standard/baseline till much later.
