Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Its looking somewhat unrealistic/cartoonish/clay figures characters, not saying it looks bad, its for sure very heavy fidelity/next gen, i just would prefer more realistic look, speaking from artistic choice.
From dialogues/animations i am also getting that lighthearted jokes vibe we had in uncharted/early 007 movies, but thats actually big plus :)
you see i never watched a 007 movie. yeah shame on me. never had the chance or never was interested in it

i do like hitman games though

so from my perspective i just wished they did hitman 4 because those games focus on something else, gameplay, stealth mechanics and so on so graphics can take a backseat. then again it is all fair they want to make different games with different IPs. just not to my liking. however gameplay loop will probably be similar to hitman woa so it's again all fair, i will give it a fair chance

They're going for a Disney athletic with 007. The visuals, the vibe, the tone all confirm this.

The bear in the demo reminded me of the hairworks demos, it does seem a shame they're pushing basically every other type of tech forward but are just using standard hair for people.
Hair strands are quite new to 3d game rendering and if you imagine that Witcher will have over 100 npcs, I'm quite sure that even a 5080-5090 would be unable to render the hair strands on Cirilla as well as all those npcs at playable framerate.

Yes, I know state of plays are this format, I'm saying I'm expecting a playstation showcase event which is where they show more 1st party focused productions.
The only hope left is whatever Geoff has to show. Sony is listed on his list of publishers for his showcase. Last few times they appeared it was for TLOU 2 multiplayer, Lego Horizon, and Death Stranding 2 (not sure if people count this because Kojima).

People have to realise one thing, Sony has no motivation to keep pushing their tech and industry standards forward anymore. They basically won the console war and now don't have to worry about users going to another platform (Xbox). This means they don't have to push first party hard anymore to convince anyone of anything and instead can focus on making games that bring them the most cash, i.e. multiplayer, gaas, etc. Expect more and more of their single player games to incorporate multiplayer as well.
and PS6 will be a distasterous failure if Sony don't pull themselves together the rest of the generation
it is not about their winning now, it's about their losing in the future , It is about the simple philosophy of "fool me once"

my only hope is Splinter Cell Remake on Snowdrop and maybe RE9 on a new RE engine

Don't see it. PS6 will be the only high end console available so it will sell regardless, probably even better than PS5 because of lack of alternative. Sony don't need to do jack for their console to sell, this gen has proven that. We can all thank the incompetence of Microsoft for that.

Nah. Microsoft isn't giving up on the console space (at least just yet). Multiple reports and people in the know here have stated that, including Microsoft themselves. How well the new Xbox does, we can only guess.

There's high speculation the next Xbox will launch before the PS6 so hopefully we'll see some UDNA action in a couple years to kick off the new generation. And hopefully AMD goes big with their discrete GPU's and we see some actual competitive performance for intensive RT and wider adoption for FSR 4 and beyond.

Gta 6 has hair strands, AC Shadows has hair strands, these are both massive open world games with loads of NPCs. Considering this is a tech demo and not actually representative of final gameplay, it would have been cool to have seen at least Ciri with hair strands.

AC shadows has hair strands for all NPCs? I doubt it

GTA 6 has zero gameplay footage out yet.

I think people are bummed because we keep expecting Sony to redeem itself and lead the pack
I think Sony followed multiplayer path after the covid. But after they saw their mistake in their path, they wanted to change that strategy in the middle of the road and turn back to singleplayer area. Also technology kept going so they somehow felt left behind. They also burned a lot of money for that multiplayer road.

That is why I think Sony is just taking the slow road for making games. Their consoles sell according to many financial report, their fanbase is happy. Xbox games are coming to their console. Why should Sony exert themselves?

Oh by the way, I think Sony will see the results their complacent, arrogant behaviours much later, like tsunami. But by that time, it'll maybe late for them. We'll see how it will play out.

Not when Microsoft will also be releasing a console-PC hybrid, as well as a handheld.

EDIT: And yes, the SoP last night was incredibly underwhelming from a technical and graphical standpoint. GoY looks like standard affair, 007 looks… Fine, and everything else just didn't impress me. In terms of sheer graphical prowess and tech, third party developers and MS are outshining Sony by a significant margin this gen.

If someone last gen told you that the next Suda51 game would have looked basically the same of the next Naughty Dog game you would have believed it? But here we are, it's finished.

People doubting ND is just baffling to me. They've been a top tier studio when it comes to graphics and I don't see that changing with their first new IP in years.

So much crow will be eaten in this thread.

I thought this was a joke, but then I saw the comparison and... yeah, it's closer than it has any right to be. Wtf is going on?!

You guys are going to look silly when its shown again.

I remember folks were judging GTA6 graphics when it leaked, saying it looked bad lmao. Let them cook.

This is so disingenuous lol
Why ?

I mean it's "in-engine pseudo gameplay" vs "in-engine pseudo gameplay".
I really think ND just did not care to try anymore after being lauded for so long as geniuses devs.
Good thing for them their game isn't out for at least 2 years and other devs show them how to push the systems graphic-wise, because the heretic they showed was not on par with industry leading standards at all.

What looks bad about this?? lighting is awesome. cutscenes look solid

Looks every bit as good as Mafia that everyone was going crazy over...

Its Hitman x Uncharted , we rarely get games like this now
It looks great and all of us will likely buy/play it, just some characters got this weird uncanny valley effect like they were made out of clay/were robots pretending to be humans, kinda like here:

There is something very unnatural about them and i cant put my finger on it...

For contrast detroit become human and its androids looked/fellt more alive/humanlike, same with first Death Stranding, both on 1,8 tflop gpu and jaguar cpu.

I know its weird but here original/robot makes it look more real/natural/humanlike than those other 3 "improved" versions, somehow:

Well said, it seems for most on here Sony can dump out any old SoP and they'll eat it up like a shit sandwich. I think it's fair to say their first party has dried up and funding has been significantly reduced due to multiple failures this generation.

Once budgets are cut it's very hard to produce state of the art visuals the likes of which PS first party were known for.

cutscenes look great, what are we complaining about here??
not in motion with those poorly animated facial expressions , which becomes even less funny
when you realise almost every cutscene in the Hitman series was pre-rendered and in-engine
the whole point of hiring Hollywood actors would be to get as much ACTING out of them as possible [beside the obvious point of publicity]

this is AT BEST indy level of visuals, but even that would be unfair to Indiana Jones
they simply decided not to upgrade their already outdated engine. their character models look really weak.
and Bond himself lacks the charisma that is characteristic of 007.
one might argue that the story justifies this as he hasn't still become 007 but he doesn't seem to have any to begin with

but let's see some proper gameplay first

P.S. when you look closely, it is as if they wanted a bit of resemblance to Daniel Craig and Brosnan, the height and the build is like Brosnan's, his face is like Craig's.
but it seems to have ended up a mish mash of the two and the voice just doesn't seem to help much either

For console owners it makes much more sense to buy PS5 as Sony won't put their games on competing platform. For PC users it makes much more sense to buy a traditional PC that you can upgrade and do as you're pleased with. So really I'm not sure there's mich of a market for this hybrid thing from Microsoft. I'm sure some people will buy it, but I see it being way less popular than Xbox. Sony have nothing to worry about, their console will be primary option and their biggest rival os now putting games on their platform.

Pretty much, characters look terrible.

I'm too lazy to take pics from the trailer :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

When even outside of this topic people shit on the graphic of a game, you know you have winner :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

They look fine in motion. You're gonna have to prove your case lol
Animations in cutscenes look ok, animations in gameplay bits from the trailer look stiff and dated. Facial animations and detail is worse than what we've seen from some last gen games. Characters look like wax dolls.

idk if Sony is gonna be that arrogant about it I don't see it working out for them long term

Oh that's interesting, that would make a lot of sense then. Some scenes have really nice vibrant colors
that's part of the problem, if you want to go for such a vibrant look, you should also respect the other aspects of cinematography as well [ lighting, angles, lenses, colour grading, etc.]
it seemed like it was too colourful just for hell of it. the audience have come to expect and like the grittier, more grounded and cinematic presentation of the movies [e.g. Casino Royale, Spectre]

they only thing they ALWAYS ABSOLUTELY smash and get right, EVERYTIME, are the posters and the promotional art they put out. they are absolutely insane-looking.
gotta give them that. [ even if at times they are quite misleading ]

the side characters are equally bland and uninteresting, and NPC-like, as if they were made in a character creator
6sYErAE.png

they should have charged Omega more, they could have upgraded the engine
NVDHzAc.png

it is like there's something wrong with the characters, anatomically

The lighting shows its age in many of the scenes, especially near the end

I said this in the other thread, but how can ALL of sony studios literally have nothing for e3?
Because it's not E3. It's Summer Game Fest. AAAs don't have to work, it's just the midyear games media glaze session they're now entitled to.

The second you take away the E3 label, you take away any propriety towards what E3 was. Because of the ESA's bullshit, media assisted e-picketing and general laziness, devs do not want to actually put in the work to show their games off and show them well.

Enjoy your Wholesome ( 🤗 ) Games Direct and fragmented international shovelware showcases!

007 looks good to me, never expected something really mind-blowing from IO, but Hitman games always looked good and this one is good looking too. The style is a bit "cartoony", but I'd say that Hitman have pretty much always had that cartoony look too.

The characters have that PS1 era pre rendered fmv look. Can't believe anyone ia hyping up this game's visuals.

I just feel like this will be already ten years outdated when it comes out. There is absolutely nothing I would not have seen already before.
