Great video about "industry leading" commitments Phil Spencer took

Sony, had over 100 million units sold on the PS4, then went around to all publishers trying to buy exclusivity on their games for next gen. Sony has loosened up a little, but has a history with this going back to the PS2. Back then Sony refused to approve titles if developers didn't add in something only available to playstation.

Err, no. You have this the wrong way around. The exclusive element or else thing started with Xbox. Good examples being Silent Hill 2 and MGS2, the practice was only limited because most Japanese publishers refused to comply.

People often forget is that Phil was in leadership roles for XGS in various guises during the era of 'Xbox has no games' and multiple failings and shutterings.

I think that goes to show he can't produce and nurture organic success, he can just buy it.

The true Microsoft way, you might argue.

Enough with this bullshit argument. Phil didn't manage all the studios and had totally different responsibilities. Also not all studios work out for various reasons, just as not all games work out. MS has shuttered as many studios as sony has. That's not the point though, the point is they are doing things differently going forward, and also protecting the themselves from market consolidation. The more studios they purchase, the more they can keep them out of the hands of google, amazon, apple or sony. They can't rely on third parties to supply the content for the system.

You're free to name someone who's accomplished more on the console front.

you can't
Others have said Iwata and Myamoto on the Nintendo side, but I also remember a crazy dude that worked at Sony and helped making parts for Nintendo consoles, then he and others had an idea of making a joint collaboration between Sony and Nintendo to make a new console, things didn't work out and Sony decided to make a console themselves and the crazy dude was putted in charge of making a little thing called Playstation, this new console sold more than every other console at the time, later the DUDE had the idea to make another console called Playstation 2, I don't know if you ever heard of that? But the PS2 sold more than any other home console so far....

However, the dude was really crazy, so he made another Playstation, this time called PS3, but the console was really crazy, kinda like the creator eh? So it initially failed hard and the crazy dude decided to retire... Still, that was a ride, 2 generations won by the crazy and amazing Ken Kutaragi.

Now.... The story doesn't end here, have you ever heard of Kaz Hirai? He also worked on the PS1, 2 and 3? You rememberr how crazy Kutaragi kinda fucked up on the PS3, right? Well, Hirai said: "That's fine! I can fix it!" And he fixed!

So Hirai made the PS3 get the second place on sales and was in charge on the release of the PS4....

So yeah... 2 dudes 3 gens won on the console front.

Back on topic: Cool video. Hyped for Xbox next gen!

Nowhere as cringe as cult of Mark Cerny.

Cult accusations aside, being a fan of someone who is clearly ultra-competent in their field and demonstrates massive success through action, as opposed to never ending talking through years of failure, is a pretty understandable viewpoint.
