The dc nation ad

you guys have no idea how hyped my brother, his girlfriend and i where when this came on. haha
More teen titans shit. Fantastic. But I will say this, with that british batman claymation thing, there should be a law against making an adorable joker.

Does Cartoon Network ever put up full episodes of their shows online? How long am I going to have to wait to watch this legally without a cable TV subscription?

Amazon has Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated available. We'll find out tomorrow if GL follows suit.

hahahah seriously. That whole thing was wayyy too cute. I also loved batman and catwoman's

that was great. while clone wars looks better, the writing in this is a SHITLOAD better. I was glued for 41 minutes, whereas with a clone wars episode I sometimes pause and do some other stuff.

shame we have to wait till spring now :(

Wow. Based on the stills I expected this to suck but it was seriously good! People actually die too! Will watch! When's the next episode? DC Nation!!!!

In the Timmverse, Barry Allen and Hal Jordan don't exist.
Well, I wouldn't say that hal doesn't exist....just not on the same time line as the jlu...

Watched it again, man so good.

My only complaints are the lack of detail on some of the CG models, I'm fine with Hal's model but Kilowog looks too much like a wax figure, also the background are too simplistic. Hopefully these get better as the show progresses and (hopefully) we get more seasons down the line. The action, though, was fantastic and entertaining.

VA was great, I specially liked the Red Lanterns. I'm glad they are not mindless drones like in the comics, but actual articulate beings with their own reasons and way of seeing justice.

Really enjoyed the chemistry showed between Hal and Kilowog, remind of the Lethal Weapon duo. I wouldn't be worried about a lack of Lanters, I know Saint Walker was confirmed for the show by BT.

The awesome thing about GL universe is the amount of material and mythos laying around for the writers of the show to pick and animate for the series. If the series is a success, I'm sure WB will let BT and co. use Sinestro and Yellow Lantern corps down the line.

I thought this was fantastic. It actually surprised me and surpassed my expectations for scripting - even by Bruce Timm standards, this is a mature, and generally comics level storyline. I liked how they didn't shy away from the GL Corps being more like soldiers than goofy super heroes (complete with alien GLs mystified by the concept of a secret identity). And they didn't shy away from the Guardians being distant and alien, not the kind of "leaders" you can entirely look up to even if you agree with their philosophy.

Also, people are going to hate on the visuals because of the smooth and abstract style but this isn't a cheap show. The detail, animation, and especially design work is all top tier. Lots of really striking visual design, and the fact that it's going to be so space-based and involve loads of technology, makes the use of CG the right move IMHO. Replicating most of the Cool Shit (tm) involving the space scenes, space fights, the ships, and epic scale machines like the Red Lantern dropship-bomb, would require a far bigger budget in traditional animation. Young Justice, for all it looks great most of the time, is very strained to portray stuff like that.

I think one of the WB animation higher ups confirmed that the inverse is true. The CG animation is far more expensive than traditional.

I came into this show wanting to hate it for being 3d, but the animation and sharp writing won me over completely.

Is the Blue Beetle live action show really happening? I guess I'll just hate on that instead.

Don't hate on Blue Beetle brah, if used properly he could be a top 5 DC franchise.
I like Jaime Reyes, but some budget live action series on Cartoon Network is a recipe for disaster.

Yeah.

In CGI you have to model and create those objects and plot them out with numbers, color them with textures, and light them with complex lighting engines.

With traditional animation, you simply draw and color them.

Sure, you have to draw and color them a lot to make it look good and not something cheap like 70's cartoons, but that's what animation is all about.

yeah but animating action scenes and space dogfights would be too much with traditional hand drawn animation.

I think CG was the right way to go, just that the backgrounds could use more details and some of the models too. I'm not some blind CG hater.

for traditional 2d animation we have Young Justice and the upcoming Legend of Korra.

If anything, they should be reminded more of The Incredibles.

So wait, we still have no idea when it will actually air?

FFFF why do they keep doing this? Kung Fu Panda also did the same thing with its show (it only started regular airing this week but premiered a month ago).

Finally got to watch this last night with my 8 year old

Holy shit did Timm and crew nail this!

I mean, i'm not a huge/long time GL fan, but i'm familiar enough. They hit all the right notes here and my son loved it as well.

And for someone else who mentioned it, indeed the animation is ALOT better than Clone Wars as was the action period, which was a good thing as this pilot had alot of it.

Also, holy shit at that ending! =(

This episode was better than the movie.

Anything is better than that POS. But yes, this specifically is EVERYTHING the movie wasn't. Quite sad really how much of a giant fuck up that film is on every level. Had an insane budget and nothing to show for it.

Finally had time to watch this. Great stuff. I don't care for the CGI - feels very second tier compared to Batman/JLU - but it was acceptable, and the writing and VA were perfect. I'm interested by the different take on the Red Lanterns, but I'll be disappointed if we don't see some Sinestro Corps action at some stage. Great portrayal of Hal, and I hope we see a few of the other human GLs at some point in the future.

The show does make me wish for more feature length GL animated movies that stick to the style of First Flight and Emerald Knights. Warching those (or old JLU episodes) really highlights how poor this show looks by comparison. Hope they step up the detail in future episodes, but beggars can't be choosers, and I'm relieved they seem to be getting so much right with this show.

Ratings for the sneak peek were pretty good.

"Friday night boasted a one-hour special “sneak peek” of the all-new animated action-adventure series Green Lantern (7-8 p.m.), which scored as the most-watched program of the night (6-9 p.m.) for Cartoon Network, ranked #1 in its time period among boys 9-14, and attracted more than 1.9 million viewers ages 2+. The presentation also grew by double-digits across all targeted demos vs. its Young Justice lead-in, and continued to grow its kids 2-11 and boys 2-11 audience across the second half-hour. Green Lantern will premiere as a series in First Quarter 2012."

I didn't like the still shots of this show, but in motion i really enjoyed the CGI. It is very stylistic, and i like that.

Hype +1 now after hearing all these reviews. The pics really don't do it justice I guess (since the models don't have a lot of detail - been really spoiled by movie quality CG :/ ).

A lot of young boys are going to grow up quick if they become Green Lantern fans and go back and read the comics. Those Star Sapphires.

I've been spoiled by Clone Wars.

I just realized - did they not use the "shhwing!" sound effect of using green lantern power rings in the DCAU?
