ummm, a floating road? was the engine just completely uncapable of doing proper backgrounds?

I've never heard of this game until now, so I hopped over to IGN to quickly check out what information they have on the game...

"GripShift combines high-flying stunt driving and unique puzzle-solving action in an all-out, pedal-to-the-metal racing experience."

I stopped reading at the first sentence in the synopsis. The last thing I need for the PSP is another racing game, let alone a stunt driving puzzle action game.

The "Excutive Producer" made some posts over at Penny Arcade saying it was really fun...

He didn't whore it out but people were talking about it in a PSP thread they got goin on over there.

EGM rated it "terrible" after e3. they said they didn't like slowing down to a crawl to make a sharp turn and didn't like flying to their doom over and over to reach a coin.

then again... they rated metroid prime: hunters terrible just because it wasn't online and they for some odd reason hate the controls..

I dunno guys, this looks like it could be probably good in motion. It looks like it could be pretty unique in its own way and we really shouldn't judge until we've pl--

HAHAHAHHAhahahahhaAHA...hooo...I'm starting to sound like one of GAF's famous apologists

Shut up before anybody at Nadeo who could port Trackmania Sunrise to the PSP hears you.

I think after delaying it for this long and not making it online is pretty damn stupid. I also hate the controls on it, in fact me and two friends all played it the first time and after two matches were all wondering what people were smoking claiming the controls were good.

And this game sounds like they were trying for a Stunt Driver lite or something, instead it looks like something my cat puked up brightly colored.

Dear Developers,
Art. It's what separates this

[offtopic]You haven't truly lived until you've played F-Zero GX on a movie theater screen with the theater's surround sound blaring all around you. :D [/offtopic]

I'm really curious to know who you are lampooning.

F-Zero I feel was underated. Didn't seem to me to get much discussion or hype. But the graphics are pure sex and look great going at intense speeds.

BTW off topic, has anyone played GP Legend for GBA? I was turned off by the cartoon and seeing how this was based from it.

The F-Zero.jp site launching was one of the best gaming related threads here at GAF. People went apeshit when they saw the first screens of new areas.

There's plenty of stuff we don't hate... like a good looking game? that looks terrible.

<troll>That's a fantastic looking Amiga game! LOL! AMIRITE GUYS!!!!1111</troll>

edit: and I hate because it looks generic as hell and the synopsis makes it sounds like a half ass budget title.

They did say PS2 level of graphics on the PSP. This game reminds me of that old 3dfx game Whiplash. ye-uck

Yes, it looks. When I saw it last month it reminded me of Rollcage (great game btw). A wifi multiplayer Rollcage could be awesome :) But yeah, art could be better :(

Waves to F-Zero GX
I guess you are suggesting that this developer can only tap N64 level's of power out of the psp. :D

Oh sure, this game looks pretty awful (above N64 levels, though, be honest...more like DC). However, the lack of any off track detail was one of my complaints about GX (which is a stunning game in every other way).

Uh, average budget doesn't mean shitty art design.
Try low budget. And no, it doesn't mean shitty art design by itself, but it certainly doesn't help a game get to F-Zero GX levels of artistic appeal either.

*sniff* *sniff*

What's that smell? Shovelware? Seems so.

One thing about handhelds is that the shovelware outweighs the quality by a massive margin.

Kinda reminds me of a game called Big Red Racing...

My lord, usually my memory is good when it comes to recalling the visuals of certain games, but damn, that's far worse looking that I remembered. :\

I suggest you get your DC fixed. That really looks like a PSX game to me.

Gripshift is far from high-end, so I think some "far from high-end" DC games make for a good comparison...

Once again, it looks like a DC game. Not a good DC, mind you, but a DC game nonetheless.

How about N64?
