GT4 First Review ...

Look, you are three years too late with this complaint. WE ALL KNOW those shots are supersampled, and we all know they won't look exactly like this on a TV screen despite being rendered with in-game engine, etc. Every single game developer does it nowadays, and I'm sure print publications are thankful for that.

Nevermind that you are complaing about the lack of gameplay screenshots for a game that has had three demos released, has been playable on numerous tradeshows, and there's a crapload of gameplay videos available everywhere.

What is it about racing games that brings the trolls out in force? Doesnt seem to matter which game it is.

"fake" replay shots are better to communicate the graphics, because if all they ever released were behind-the-car screens capped with an all-in-wonder, it would make the game look like complete ass, while it doesn't really.

The thing with fake shots is that in the end you know what games look like on your TV, you yourself can interpret these high rez images accordingly. And the fact that they are replay shots also allow them to highlight the car graphics beyond the rear bumper, because unlike F355 on DC, the *gameplay* models aren't just detailed from the rear, And also gives them freedome in showing the improved environments.

"To the few of us who played prologue" ??

You do realise its available to buy dont you ? Every man and his dog has played it.

Oh yeah and IMO it aint insanity or gorgeous. Its just GT3 with more cars and tracks and the shitty generic overmixed vehicle noises from GT3. It looks pretty good and the controls are better than GT3 apart from rally which is a joke.

You do realize you can't read for shit right? I said to the few who played Prologue in addition to all of the demos. And I was solely referring to people from this forum. Your trolling skills are shit.

Could somebody please think about the trees? Seriously, if we could get a racing game with some beautifully rendered trees I'd be happy. But still GT4 is looking slammin otherwise. Twill be in my collection soon.

I'm certain the game is absolutely gorgeous, because Gran Turismo 3 was, but it's ridiculous that we don't have real screenshots.
You have dozens of demos as well as two Prologue releases that you can actually play - surely that's better representattive then any screenshots will ever be.

What is it about racing games that brings the trolls out in force? Doesnt seem to matter which game it is.
Racing games are the Console market FPS - they are the technology showcases, which are to trolls like fire is to moths ;)

Im so sorry to hear about your sight and hearing degenerating. Is there any hope for a cure?

Who even knows what GT4's rally physics will be like. Prologue was the last time a rally track was playable (outside of gaming shows), and both the physics and graphics are much better now as seen in the recent BMW and Japanese demos.

Oh man thats good. PS3 will hopefully be like this in game.

Get a life.

I'm still amazed someone can make PS2 games look this good. I just wonder how much money it took to do it. But regardless, I won't really care when I'm playing it day one.

So thats the drill, dont agree with my opinion so you make a weaksauce remark :lol

Dont worry, real life is much the same except you cant hide behind your computer.

Yeah, I too punch everyone who disagree with me in real life. I don't have many friends though.

Maybe it's just me, but GT4 Prologue looks damn near the same as GT3 -_- And yes, I have the actual demo.

Regardless, I look forward to GT4s release...

I'm reminded of the quote of "you're so full of shit, it's coming out of your eyes". I'd say it describes your trolling.

No, its just that the visuals have been changed and thats a FACT. Unless your sight and hearing have degenerated beyond the point where you can decern a difference then saying it is the same as GT3 is pure trolling. Wich is the case?

If you want to step up to me over a videogame graphics arguement I will PM you my address, tough guy.

Heres a lesson in life Skeletor;

Just because you say something, it doesnt mean its right.

I am not trolling at all, trolls dont compliment a game they are supposedly "trolling against". Why are so many of you uptight to criticism of a game ?

Get over yourself.

Go ahead, if it makes you look and feel like a man.

Get over yourself.

First, don't talk shit if you yourself haven't posted a pic or talked about your personal life on a forum. Because it is you who is hiding behind a little fucking monitor, pointing at people calling them "skeletor" (Jesus Fuck are you clever, or what!?) and what have you. You need to get over yourself.

Second, you are trolling. That much is obvious. Your little 'I hope it looks like that on PS3' comment is quite clearly a troll. And that's really all you've done lately regarding GT4 topics.

Third, now you're backpedalling. You're being called a moron, and rightfully so, and now you're changing your tune to "gawyz, im not troling y r u so uptite?" Seriously. This shit is old and transparent.

Fourth, I'm curious to know what your previous handles on GAF (and judging by your mocking of me) and OA are.

1. Check your language. If you really do think you are so clever, you could find words other than swear words to convey your meaning. I have pictures of myself on the net, if you want one ask me.

2. I am not trolling. I said "my god it looks good". I do criticise the game, because i can if i want.

3. Nonsense.

4. Dont have an OPA or GAF login apart from this one. N00b's search.

Remember that movie Assassins? That one line when Antonio Banderas had that little laptop program that talked to him? Remember when the program was like "that's no way to talk to a lady"? Remember what Antonio Banderas said?

That's right: "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you."

Great line.

Edit: No one should have to ask privately. Get some balls and post em in the next picture thread. See, I don't talk shit. Not even to those, like you, who do it to me. I'm better than that. I don't hound people and make fun of whatever deficiencies they may have had. But you do.

Some people decide to get personal with the remarks they make. I try to avoid that...but others thrive on talking shit. It really is annoying. There was no reason for Kanbee to make a played out skeletor remark, but hey...he did.

Have any of you seen b-spec in motion? that's another form of gameplay in gt4 and you can play it with many views like replay views and while the mode is in action it looks exactly like a replay but omggomgogm, replayZZZZZZZ usa teyh advacnec visuals(noob talk) Please, the visuals in replays are the same as in gameplay. Think different, explain to me logically how replays use better visuals.

voices of reason sometimes get lost in the quagmire, but i'm with this one.

I have high hopes for GT4's rally component. GT3's Rally mode was a dull as dirt. The tracks were boring, the cars just didn't feel right, the controller was near constantly vibrating, the visuals were pretty grainy, and above all I personally didn't find it too much fun.

In comparison to a game like RSC2, which is exaggerated in the slide out department, the rally in GT just doesn't hold up.

Still, very different games with very different focus.

I'll put 500 on Gek. Ahem...

To get back to the game. Today, yes GT3's rally looks grainy and washed out. But it plays superbly, if you ask me. It's my favorite rally game. It just feels more solid than anything else I've played. GT4's rally is even better and it looks fabulous. RCS2 fabulous? Nah...but still fabulous.

If Prologue is a good indication of how good GT4's rally will be then you should in for a nice surprise. The controler and wheel no longer constantly shake and the rally physics are some of the best I have seen.

Plays superbly ? It doesnt respond like a rally car should. When you plant your foot around the corner your supposed to get more traction, it doesnt happen that way in GT3. The cars just feel like heavy trolleys on ice.

RSC2 although arcadey, actually handles very much like these cars do. Granted i have never been in a delta, tacoma, celica and many more.... i have been in an imprezza wrx sti, lancer evo 4, 5 and a couple of others in the game thanks to my friend being a rally nut.

Now before you explode in a rage of f*ck, sh*t and P*ss calling me a troll they are just my thoughts. Games like Mobil 1 Rally and RBR just do it so much better.

See...I liked this post. GT3's rally is just a personal preference. If I were to pick a full fledged rally game as my favorite, I'd choose V-Rally 3 easily. It just clicks with me more than any other rally game ever has.

RSC2 handles like GT3 Rally?

Go back and play Mobil 1 again. Yeah it was great for its time but the physics are terribly shallow compared to todays rally games. I agree about RBR but prologue the only game that comes near RBR's level.

I didnt say RSC2 handles like GT3.

Prologue still maintains GT3's slidey, greasy one wheel feel. I would take mobil 1 over it anyday.

Whoah. That's RSC1 and 2 you're describing right there.

RBR is all over the place more so than Prologue. Mobil 1 uses the central pivot point.

Full throttle with 300hp car around a corner on gravel and you are not suppose to slide?

Exactly. As long as you enter a corner at the proper speed in GT3 and then the gas it your car will plant and turn. You can even see this happen in rolling demos in GT3. If you just head into a corner at top speed it shouldn't really surprise you that the car is just going to slam into a wall.

AlphaSnake said:

That is pretty exaggerated. Driving surface really determines how slidy the phyiscs are. On pavement the cars in RSC2 grip pretty tightly, on gravel not as much, snow even less, ice hardly at all. Sometimes I actually forget just how grippy asphalt is while driving and I don't drive as aggresively as I could be.

My favorite part about RSC2, and this goes for Saturn Rally 1 as well, is that I can feel what the wheels on the car are doing and what they are likely to do depending on how much more or less power I throw at the engine at any given moment. I can tell when the wheels are turning fine and when they are locked up and how to work the car to get the most performance out of it I can. The game is just extremely tactile and dependable. That is what I really enjoy about the game, and good racers in general.

I just took a break to play GT3 and refresh my memory and the big thing that I think betrays the rally side is that sometimes when, in a slide, putting power to the wheels and countersteering to bring the back end around sometimes results in nothing happening at all. The car continues to slip to an inevitable collision with a wall. Internally I think the physics are either are being reset or the car, or wheels, are doing something I'm not aware of. I also find the same thing happens when driving on the non rally courses. The other thing, realistic or not, that bothers me in Rally on GT3 is that the jumping puts more emphasis on the weight of the car and not on its forward momentum.

Problems aside though, and after playing RSC2 quite a lot over the last few months, GT3s Rally is better than I remember it as long as you try not to be very aggesive and torture test the vehicles.

I'm looking forward to GT4 and I'm certainly going to pick it up when it is released.

there are a couple of GT4 books out now - one is pretty interesting. It has various models all of whom are GT4 fans. Interviews with the women drapped over cars, plus a guide to 6 of the tracks, a 12 month calander with one of the girls, and an overview of how to create the perfect "picture mode" picture (as well as some sample hires shots).

... the game seems to be kind of skipped over, but the girls are fairly hot.

Hmm.... perhaps i will pick it up at lunchtime and scan a sample shot or two and stick em on a website somewhere?

Probably a good idea to do it before the pages become magically glued together....

I dont go full throttle around corners :lol You gotta use a manual and use the gears to help limit the revs and get the right amount of torque for each corner.

Its just my opinion, GT3/4 rally doesnt seem right especially considering my real world experiences.

"Is that the Bible of Gran Turismo 4?"

nope - it's something like

"Go! Go! Get! Special Mook Edition Platinum : Women Fan homologation of a GT4 extended dedication super collection fan book (with free calander)"

or something like that....

(i'll tell you later , i'll check it out in the book store in 5 minutes time)
