Nice.At least the game is really coming out somewhere :D :lol

Not to be picky, but 'Jap' while an appropriate abbreviation for Japan sometime in the distant past, is highly offensive to many. It was widely used before, during and after World War II as a derogatory remark against an entire race of people ie: "Those Damn Japs"

JP or JPN is probably more appropriate.

Man, we had this discussion before. Some people are too easily offended.

JAP is an appropriate abbreviation for JAPANESE. I understand people are offended but jesus lighten up you know he didn't mean it in that way.

Anyway, interesting spots :}

JAPOWNED

I intended Japanese not Japan plus you have to forgive me but english is not my first language so I didn't know that abbreviation could be offensive to someone.

I happen to be Japanese.

Are you?

No, I'm American. If you could see my face you could see how much I care what ethnicity you are.

You're human. I'm human. That about does it for how much I care what ethnicity you are.

Terms such as colored, negro, idiot, retard, moron, etc, etc were once part of our inoffensive lexicon. Over time, they've come to bear profane meanings and are thusly removed from our polite usage of language.

Regardless of how ridiculous it might seem, at some stage the term 'Jap' was used in a highly derogatory fashion... indeed is still used in such a fashion in some circles. Now that you know better, it would only be polite to refrain from using the term... in fact better to inform others that it can bear such a derogatory meaning.

From what I've been told by my Japanese mates. It's similar to calling a person from Germany a Nazi and wondering why they're getting offened by it.

Anyway, nice videos, cheers :) Is it REALLY out in 7 days time?

Now that I "know" better? I've know forever that "Jap" was once used in a derogatory fashion. Point is, this political correct crap has spiralled out of control. Jap is quite literally a direct shortening of Japanese. I can understand that people would be a little shaken if the word is said with venom... but jesus christ, it's just saying "Japan" or "Japanese" in three letters!

If people did not give heft to certain words nobody would be offended. That's why I'm so happy "Queer" has become acceptable now.

Hmmm... in this internet world of acronyms and abbreviations, one would think you'd have figured out that 'Jap' wasn't the old WWII derrogatory term but rather simply, the word "Japanese" truncated after the first 3 letters.

Then there's also the context, example: If I were to say "You jap bastard!" and "new jap GT4 tvcm"

One should be able to easely discern between the two meanings. unless you're looking for opportunities to get offended.

I agree 100%. He obviously didn't mean it to offend anyone. Context is everything.

Look, neither you nor I are getting offended by the term 'Jap'

but if there's a japanese complaining about it's derogatory usage and that it makes him feel marginalized, why should your insensitive american ass take precedence over the oversensitive japanese ass?

True enough the original thread starter didn't mean a slight, but the guy was told to be careful with it as it does in fact have a derogatory meaning, regardless of how you feel about it.

Because he should grow up and learn not to be so easily offended by a word that quite literally means nothing. And yes, I'm dead serious about that. Saying "insensitive american ass" is even more offensive than "Jap" at this point. Jap is shortered version of Japan/Japanese. That's like trying to say that "Nor" is an offensive term for Norwegian people because some douchebag used it in an inflammatory way 60 years ago.

Stop being so easily offended, is what I'd tell him and ANY Japanese person who whined about the word being "so horrible" that they'd appreciate it changed "for future reference.". Political correctness has spiralled out of control.

Speaking of context, I feel Wuster voiced his opinion in a very civil manner...he(or she?) didn't fly off the handle and demand that the thread starter be banned. Why call him overly PC or sensitive? He was just asking for heightened awareness.
