(RUMOR) Liquid Metal Gate? PS5s (+ other devices) Using Liquid Metal Might Be Suffering A Dry Spot Problem

Has your PS5 randomly shut down while gaming over the past 12-24 months?

Not a massive sample size but if those voting are honest there is only 5.4% of peeps who have had a system shutdown. That's not failure.

So, even if a small percentage of those 5% failed completely i would imagine that is well within tolerance for failed electronics

That liquid metal reveal for PS5 was so badass, everyone's still trying to FUD it to death. Stems from inferiority complex. Similar to the 8 GB GDDR5 PS4 reveal.

I fixed a few Phat Ps5 and liquid metal has been an issue, its pretty well known in the repair shop and pawnshop world
I talked about this here a couple/few years ago when PS5 units first started having issues with the LM and just got chased out of the thread by fanboys that refused to believe that this would be the systems Achilles Heel over time.

My main issue with the design outside of the obvious stupidity of using LM in a device with vertical orientation, and it STILL hasn't been corrected, is the complete lack of conductive shielding around the APU. If/when that foam warps/cracks/degrades that LM is free to fry the first shit it touches. Basically, just typical maintenance like a thermal respread is a fucking nightmare AND compromises the integrity of the fragile foam in one fell swoop.

If one of the "fixes" is never using your console vertically, an orientation that Sony themselves market almost exclusively in it's imagery for the product, AND charge you for the pleasure of doing via a vertical stand...you might have a bad design.

Use mine horinzontally and had no issues at all. As I have too much space in the cabinet I can keep it on horizontal and with good ventilation all around it. I do clean it once every month.

The "first" one is a dummy, the real unit is the one standing up.

If the console in the front worked, it would have blown up by now. If you look closely, there is no room for air to flow, with the acrylic case completely shut around it. It's just a mock-up.

If someone remembers, they used to pull this kind of stunt during E3 or any game showcase, where it was a PC or a Dev kit running the game, with a dummy console at the front of the display.

I think my paranoia has got the best of me xD
I've kept my PS5 vertical since launch day but I'm gonna switch it up, if only for a short while.

Will changing position from vertical to horizontal every now and then keep this supposed issue of liquid metal pooling up on one side of the APU from happening? I've heard some say that the liquid metal "fuses" with the contact area of the heatsink which sounds kinda contradictory but would also explain how it could end up being lopsided over time.

I've had zero issues related to thermals and regularly clean the console by removing the fan, remove dust buildup and vacuuming the "dust catchers". So no issues at all really, just being a paranoid parrot xD
