GTA 4 and Vice City with RTX Remix path tracing

This demo showcases a lush grass field in a GTA4 city park, brought to life using Geometry Nodes and a custom script for massive grass replacement. No coding required, just a step by step guide on how to build the scene and apply the script. Powered by RTX Remix, this workflow transforms classic visuals into a more realistic, path traced environment.

This is not a demo of our mod. The video is meant to showcase the script functionality and highlight what RTX Remix can do, especially with pointInstancer and large scale geometry setups. It's a technical walkthrough, not a representation of the final mod content.

I understand why people do this from a "lets try to inject modern technology into old games" but this looks like fucking garbage like nearly every single one of these type of things do.

That is not the correct way to do that lol
people who barely understand how to do things making tutorials online is such a huge issue. fully geometric grass is an insane waste of resources.

I have yet to see a really good looking RTX remix that keeps original artistic intent.

And has anything really been released as even a mod not to mention a full game? The whole thing reminds me of demo scene back in the day.

Portal RTX? Granted the first game wasn't really known for its aesthetics. I really enjoyed that back when it first launched and its RT 'remaster' made from a team from Nvidia (NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios).

The rest of these are yeah more like tech demos. The Half-Life 2 one absolutely robs the game from most of its atmosphere with its design changes.

Well that's relative. I didn't experience any bugs on Steam Deck, compare it to any Bethesda game and it runs like a charm, even if you're having tons of bugs 😅
It's a well known bug fest, it's not unique to me. Glad your experience has been good though.

I mean the GTA 4 Fusion Fix mod fixed the majority of the problems with the port, including bringing back in missing effects from the better 360 version. It is the best version of the game to play now.
Yeah, I guess it's dumb to even express a desire for Rockstar or T2 would ever do a proper rerelease of anything that isn't GTA5.

Oh for sure man, it shouldn't take a modder to have to do the work they should've in the first place as the game maker. Trouble is the efforts so far they're willing to put out have been the pretty crap Definitive editions of the GTA3 era games.

Just saying there is at least a good version now thanks to contributions from a mod team.

Sweet, is there a release date known?
No, you get access to "in development" builds by paying the modders for it. I'm surprised the Fusion Fix guys never did that the gullible bastards, they released all their stuff for free when gamers would happily pay for things like this.

Preserving the artistic intent will be incredibly difficult because the lighting in those games is outdated, so a competent RT solution will completely change the atmosphere and art direction.

Take Demon's Souls Remake for instance. Beautiful game, but the art style is completely different.

I just tested this out of curiosity. The lighting is impressive and its a 1000% improvement over the original, but I find the mod itself quite buggy at the moment. The HUD doesn't scale properly, it crashes frequently and there are visual bugs in some places

Another issue the mod brings is that there is a huge mismatch in quality between the amazing lighting and the old assets so the game looks weird as a result. The grass and vegetation is 2D in the streets, and buildings look very dated.

The game needs in my opinion a full revamped of textures and asset improvements. Like real 3D vegetation for instance

But seeing GTA4 with path tracing is absolutely incredible and another thing that mod improves a lot and I haven't seen anyone talking about it is anti aliasing. GTA4 is known for having horrendously jaggies everywhere, even at 8k using downsampling. This mod fixes it and it looks marvelous

But I think the mod needs more work

Nice, I love that recent community mod that fixes alot and tightens it up. Have yet to play the expansions, and now with RTX mod I can enjoy the real throwback of barely 30fps in GTAIV, just like good old days on pentium dual core and 9800gt lol.

They turned GTA IV into Last of Us.
TLOU invented tall grass. Games wouldn't ever progress without playstation imo. But, yea seeing that screen made me like "wtf they ported Niko in TLOU2 world?"

Yeah, I wish Rockstar would do a proper Remaster with better textures. Just don't give it to the people who did GTA III collection.

These mods that do dramatic changes don't look good. They make the game look uneven, meaning it's impressive at some parts and awful at others.

This game looks the best when using the FusionFix mod. It doesn't need more than that.
