The comparison shots did nothing for me, but the actual gameplay footage in motion looks a bit more impressive.

Think there have been better examples of RTX Remix though.

643 fps to 43. What a freacking joke.
Came here to say the same thing.
Glad you had it covered.
On a silicon the size of Texas and the price of a small apartment in Paris. RT needs more optimization, hopefully RDNA 5 and RTX 6000 have more tricks under their sleeves to lighten the burden.

Horrible performance considering the results. The RTX version looks kind of sterile and still there are issues with the image quality.

Losing 550fps for this is absolutely worth and if you say the contrary you are right.

I usually like rtx remix but some results here are horrible
the reflection at 5:22 makes no sense at all. the water reflection can end up looking like both, but the muddy water there wouldn't end up with that much of a clean reflection
lighting improvements are welcome though. i'll give this a try on my 3070

Valve could do a remake of L4D 1 & 2 and I'd throw down cash on it in a heartbeat. I really wish those were available on console.

Back4Blood was okay, but it's not the same.

The thing is, I'm right, it's that simple.

Fun aside.
The two statements don't have to contradict each other.
Of course, this RTX path tracing remix mishmash can be impressive on a technical level.
But it completely destroys the developer's vision they have realized through their choice of art design.

The lack of fog totally removes a lot of the atmosphere and the randomly placed lighting and edited textures completely ruin the mood and artistic intent in most scenes. The hospital looks pretty cool though,

ITT we find out CGI level lighting is expensive. Can't wait to see people make the same complaints about the PS6s framerate while running path traced games. It'll be a repeat of UE5 on PS5.

As long as it's 40 fps for people that have 120hz screens, it'll be fine.

With a horde of zombie running around, am I the only one who prefers the left? I mean the right looks cool. I'd love to sit there and smoke a cigar and a have a bourbon maybe. But for zombie horde video games, I'll take the game on the left please. These realism nerds forget that aesthetic and composition exist.

Oh no, I agree with you.
I always find that these lack a lot of identity and generally prefer the originals. I just found it funny.

Despite that I will play through this like I played through Portal RTX, and will play through HL2 RTX and the inevitable Portal 2 RTX as well as it gives me an excuse to play through amazing games again.

At least these are better then those terrible looking Unreal Engine remakes of stuff like Ocarina of Time and all that bullshit that people hype up all the time.

I'm ready for path tracing to stop, FPS to go up, resolution to go up, physics back, respectable hair, artistic lighting, AA, draw distance…

Hardware isn't going to reach consumer pricing / power and the industry is crumbling as a result.

Tone it all down, make fun, performant games like BF6 and sell bajillions.

Looks okay. The impact of shooting zombies looks weaker? RTX remix is a neat excuse to replay games but it in no way replaces them.

What are the best rtx remix mods out there?

None of them are fully done I believe? Well unless its the Nvidia ones

Portal RTX remix is the only one done. Quite good too.

Fan projects imo, most interesting ones are

Black Mesa
Call of Duty 2
Half-Life 2
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
Painkiller

honestly, just add RT reflections instead of the ugly Source Engine cubemaps, and you'll have a free graphics upgrade, that doesn't change the artstyle or look of the game in any dramatic way, and replaces the only really icky part of the graphics.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that part. It went from a gloomy river to a serene lake.

Totally agree with you. This is where content creation and curation MATTERS! Somebody somewhere has to tell the artist NO! We aren't making a peaceful looking postcard, we are making a zombie horde video game and the tone and setting has to match the vibes that we want the player to "feel".

From what I see, both "versions" look good in their own way.

That being said, path tracing is the future.
Not at all. Path tracing is a net negative for most games. Anything that isn't going for a realism look would be downgraded with path tracing. Publishers love it because they don't have to hire lighting artists. People who spent $1,500 on a GPU need it to justify their purchase. In photorealistic games it's great. CoD, Madden, Gran Turismo type stuff. But for something like Ico or Dark Souls it's a big giant L. Artistic lighting is far superior for titles like that.

Neat tech showcase, but not useable at this level of performance obv. Get some zombie hordes, a few players, and some explosions and you have yourself a very pretty game running at 1 fps.
