GTA for PS3 - what setting?

I think present day, somewhere in Central or South America would be pretty cool.

Actually (and Im sure its been suggested before but) I think a GTA: City of God would be the perfect setting for the next gen Rockstar opus.

Next to Rhode Island of course.

How about GTA being set in 1908 Detroit. The first half of the game has you waiting for Henry Ford to finish the Model T, while you do missions, and than you get to steal the first car!

Otherwise, I want to see GTA: Corescant.

You know, a GTA set in the future where there's a prototype time machine and you get missions like being hired by the Forellis to travel to Liberty City 1981 to murder Tommy Vercetti while he's still in jail would be exciting. Just rip off BttF and have the entire GTA timeline from Vice City to San Andreas get completely changed and screwed up as you progress through the storyline.

off-topic, but does anyone else find that people call Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas "GTA3" and the PS3 "PS2" now? It's starting to get really annoying in my daily life.

At least with the next gen GTA, they'll be right in calling it "GTA4"

That would be really cool. They could have missions set in the future (with new vehicles like hoverboards, flying cars) and throughout the past.

I think the prohibition era of the 1920s seems like the most logical next step, if only is hadn't been already done by the game Mafia. Granted the PS2 and Xbox versions suffered from a lot of technical problems, the original PC version was perfect IMO.

A future GTA would be awesome, and really I think they should just remake GTA:2 and give it a different name. I never really liked that game, but I think that variation of Liberty City would look just awesome on PS3.

I think aside from the future GTA and a present one, taking GTA to the south would be awesome. Similar to SA, they could have one big fictional southern that has all it's most lively cities or unique combinations thereof, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Saint Louis, etc. Hell, I'd just settle for New Orleans to be honest, can you imagine all the next gen boobies from a Mardi Gras celebration? :lol

GTA: Ruska

It'd be a huge section of Russia, containing 5 cities and many small towns spaced between it. There would be a great winter wasteland, an area sanctioned off due to massive radiation and a hub city like Moscow. Think the "north" side of Mercenaries, only in Russia and without a war on every corner and with a radio.

Russia could be interesting.

Belfast? ;) Heck, Dublin could be a good choice with the increasing gang activity here :/

:lol GTA:Belfast would be great shooting up around my own city.

I hope they do a modern day GTA:London that would rock, usa needs a break and i want to drive on the left side of the road

too many GTA titles. Stop the madness :(

but...

Old Testament. Kill giants, race charriots, stone people to death, build golden idols, etc. That sort of shit.
sounds fun

agree with the general feeling: outside of the USA

A new GTA in either a European, South American, Asian location would be great (assuming it follows the San Andreas mold of having multiple cities each representing diverse locations with smaller towns and outdoorsey places between).

I'd love to see a Russian or English GTA the most, though (please no Italy)

I don't care where it is, as long as I don't have to play a black guy again. But seriously, GTA Chicago 20's would be cool. But the limited weaponry and cars would kinda suck. I dunno though, I like the thought of GTA world or GTA: east coast. Get Chicago in there though damn it.

Heh, you're joking? If not, why would you care if you could or could not play as a black guy?

GTA:THE BRONZE AGE
GTA:Ninja's Kick Back
GTA: Pimps of The Sea
GTA:Pirates
GTA:Not For the Revolution
GTA:Snakes on A Plane
GTA3 pt 2: Electric Boogaloo

joking :lol Damn internet makes it so hard to get that stuff across.

Well, usually I can tell but it wasn't seperated from the rest of the paragraph and you went right to your next point which gave it an air of believability :P

That and I actually read people legitimately complain about playing as a black man in GTA:SA, so nothing surprises me! :D

I like the Blade Runner and City of God ideas a lot. A Japanese setting (perhaps inspired by a movie like Kill Bill?) sounds cool too. But what I'd really like is a Grand Theft Auto in Se7en style. A grim, industrial city, were it's always raining and everything and everyone is more or less decaying. I'd love to see a game try to emulate this setting. Storyline could be someone trying to score big so he/she is able to escape the city. Simulate Se7en enough and anyone can identify :). Something like Sin Grand Theft Auto City sounds interesting too.

I would think they'd just do a new liberty city based game but with areas added around it, so you'd have a new superfantastic liberty city with all the locations you remember, maybe make it take place 5 years after GTA 3. News areas around liberty city would include a countryside area with scattered houses and farms and some sort of new housing development section. The existing city would have new buildings and streets in some places to show that time has passed.

This would be GTA4. Afterwards they could spawn sub sequels like vice city and san andreas, this time though I hope they spend 2 years on each game instead of 1 year.

Best idea in this thread.

Imagine Moscow mafia, The Kremlin and tons of snow. That radiation bit is a little over the top, though.

It would have to be online as well. Then it might be the greatest game ever made. :D Oh yeah, it would have to have snowmobiles. PEACE.

Yea, I was just thinking one of the big events in modern Russian history was Chernobyl, so that'd be like a big reference to that. And like, you know how in San Andreas you'd get a gimp suit? In GTA: Ruska, you'd get a fallout suit and that's how you do some of the missions in that area. But maybe, yeah, over-the-top....

...and of course, definitely snowmobiles!

Err, they DID use sprites for objects and such, but the environments were 3D. If you've played them, I can't imagine how you might believe them to be entirely 2D.

Viewtiful Joe's environments are 3D, but it plays from a 2D, side-scrolling perspective (2.5 D in parts). GTA 1 & 2 had 3D environments, but it plays from a 2D, top down perspective. The gameplay takes place from a birds eye, 2D vantage point, so that's why I consider those titles to be 2D games.

nah guys you don't get it: GTA MONTREAL god damned it. And set at present time. Now that would be awesome. Also the game could begin in autumn with all the multicolored leafs and such. It could end during the winter in the snow.
:D

The first thing I thought of after they announced San Andreas was that a GTA set in the future would be pretty cool, maybe even some time traveling......maybe not, GTA Haxxor Wars!!

I was watching Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi trilogy the other day so GTA: Central/South America appeals. Have a take on Mexico, Brazil, the Amazon, the Andes, Cuba and even a southern US area with a border, then have an illegal immigrant border crossing mini-game.
