If this game allows me to edit the fuck out of the config settings then I'll definitely buy it. Such a great game that was limited by the hardware (understandably, consoles typically have terrible ram numbers). I can't wait to push the rendering boundaries back if that's at all possible.

I never did finish San Andreas...Got to San Ferrio, or whatever, and then quit when Halo 2 came out on November 9th. My girlfriend's dad has my copy right now...Maybe when he's done with it, I'll finish it.

ive never played gta on pc, do they make it more difficult to compensate for the more accurate mouse aiming?

it still uses lock-on aiming.

It actually plays much better on ps2, but graphically the PS2 version can't compare to the PC one.

I don't know if they make it more difficult, but GTA:SA on PS2 has free aim mode. You don't have to lock onto enemies

I'm like the draw distance and better, brighter characters/buildings. It looks like they might've also added more customization too.

Uh, no.

Unless you specifically mean San Andreas.

If that's the case, and they decide to not add mouselook + WASD after the previous two games had them, there's gonna be one hell of an uproar.

I only played GTA3 on the PC and SA on the PS2, and if anything, I found the lock-on aiming to be easier than the mouse aiming for everything but sniping. Since the enemies in SA pretty much just stand in one place until you take them out, it's actually easier to lock on, kill the target, hit the "next target" button, kill the next target, etc, than it is to manually aim at every enemy.

The Great thing about the pc version of the GTA series has always been the mods.

For real. I downloaded the GTA Vice City Long Night full game mod and it's awesome. The people that worked on it added their own missions, characters, dialogue and in game cutscenes. It's like old school Dawn of the Dead complete with hordes of zombies and biker gangs.

Mouselook + WASD is there.

The embargo's up rather soon, expect to see hands on from various sites.

I only played GTA3 on PC, but in that one it used a hybrid mouselook + lock-on system for aiming. I remember it being necessary considering how hard it was to aim in third person. I just personally feel the third-person style of play works better on consoles with lock-on than on PC.

You Are correct it is awesome, every one who hasn't played it do it ASAP. It includes
New storyline
Over 20 original full missions
Over half a dozen playable characters
New radio stations
New particle effects
Numerous weapon tweaks (including the ability to carry all heavy weapons simultaneously)
New gameplay elements (Zombies, plotlines, etc.)
Different endings
New and improved zombie spawning system
25 unique zombies

I'm usually not one to bitch about load times, but I was in the middle of Vice City for PC when San Andreas came out. Obviously, the former spoiled me to the point of making me blow off San Andreas on PS2. Looking forward to the PC version, which is usually also easy to find for around $20 less than the console equivalent not long after release.

Well, it wasn't so much a hybrid as it was an either/or situation. In the controls, you could decide whether you wanted to use the lock-on mode, or just a straight mouselook/WASD setup.

That looks 100 times better then the PS2 version, and if its at 60 FPS or near that....Shit, ill buy it. I hurried through the Ps2 version and traded it in, the framerate and other bugs kept it from being that enjoyable to play. I just wanted to get the storyline.

Look, bicycles cast no shadows in San Andreas???

Actually, the bicycles cast pixel-perfect shadows (at least in the sun), which stand in sharp contrast to the ambiguous blob that is Carl's shadow.

Did they remove the stupid orange haze that covers EVERYTHING. It looks like they did in that one shot.

its kinda hard to have an orange haze at night. Even in the PS2 version its only their at dusk, not all the time.

How might one go about obtaining said mod?

Man that looks so much better than the ps2 version, it's like night and day. I can't wait to play it through again with a decent framerate and draw distance.

Wow, that is awesome! I'm buying GTA Vice City for the PC tommorrow!

BTW, the PC version of San Andreas looks great!

I dont think I could play GTA with WSAD/Mouse, especially the driving sections. Anyone have a recommendation for a console style gamepad for the PC (with good analogue control)? Are they all crap? Logitech maybe? I remember briefly reading about a USB adapter for the Dual Shock but I have my doubts about how reliable that would be.

GTA:SA PC looks good enough to buy it again. I got past the first city in SA but the onslaught of excellent games from Nov-Jan pretty much put a halt to that. Then Winning Eleven came out and I think I forgot it even existed. I was going to pick it back up soon but I may hold off for the PC version since I have the hardware to run it now.

The zombie mod was interesting. I enjoyed the opening driving sequence quite a bit, but the moment I got inside the building I got capped in the head. :lol

That looks great. I almost wish San Andreas was held over to the next generation of consoles. Such an ambitious game somewhat crippled by old technology.

Regardless, I hope the X-Box version looks comparable.

This is kind of a let down. Just like the previous pc version the major upgrade is the draw distance, resolution and possible framerate. I was hoping for an big upgrade in the models as well since they did that for the xbox double pack.

Well from what I played it sure as hell seemed like it was dusk all the time. I hope there's an option to tone that effect down a little.

They work great, I've been enjoying my adapter for like 3 years now with no problem. I think it's a good idea for everyone interested in SA for pc to get themselves one and all the other console ports in general. Having a controller for the basic gameplay and a mouse for sniping and manual aiming situations is the best way to go imo, best of both worlds.

Hobbitx that's good advice for players who play the PC versions of GTA. Personally I never had an issue with the driving in GTA3 or VC, since I played carmegeddon alot and got use to a crappy diriving system. Most of my friends nudging me to play GTA for PS2 never got me on framerate or graphics alone and when I got my new pc that could play the last two titles without a hitch never even bothered looking at the console version of the game. Is this title still due out for a june or july release?

Yeah, at times it gets insanely difficult since I think they modded the shotguns so that they're almost automatic. There's a level where the biker gang breaks into the Film Studio(which is now the safe haven for survivors), and if you get shot by one of them with a shotgun it's pretty much the end right there since they can get 2 more shots while you're lying on the floor. Thankfully the armor and health cheats from the regular game still work.

yay going to be worth the wait! (i avoid the ps2 versions of the gta's)
Same here!

I also hope GTA:SA has Xbox Live aware. I want to able to reach my buddies whenever I want, cause I know I'll basically live in the game once I have it :D

So he's banned for what? 3 days? 1 week? GAF is not the same without Wario.
