• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

GTA V has gone gold.

To me I got the impression that the achievements didn't hint at traditional collectibles but at missions that involve collecting things that you get after buying certain properties, like Vice City I guess.*

*that's not a spoiler that's just me guessing.

I'll be kind of glad if there's no collectibles that are there just to collect things. After almost every single current gen game having something like that I've reached my limit collecting garbage. Collectibles should have some kind of purpose or story behind them.

Listening to the Q & A, it sounds like the collectibles are tightly woven into the game, so they're not random stuff you need to collect.

Yes, because if I were to obtain the most wanted game in the world a week early, I too would post a shot of the box with the 360 dashboard on the background instead of a photo of the map and an ingame situation.

Seems fairly legit to me.

I call fake. Why would the NTSC label be covering most of the top corner of the cover? And no map inside the case. Usually GTA games also come with a "travel guide" of some sort.

Is there a transcript of the Q&A anywhere? I can't watch it right now.

Also "graphics are legit". IGN confirmed this.

Also, knew that picture was fake, Painkiller confirmed himself he just shopped it. Expertly too!

Yeah, I got release day First Class.

I asked customer service earlier on and they state they intend to ship on Sat. 14th.

Oh man if that's true then I'm happy, I've been umming and ahhing all week about whether to just buy physical. If they do ship on the 14th then it might even get here for monday...! Rockstar can ask, I guess, but Amazon gonna Amazon.

"Arunraj:I can confirm that the estimated delivery date is September 17, 2013.
I assure you that you will get the item "Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360)" on the release date.
Me:Are you able to verify a dispatch date for the item at this stage?
Arunraj:We planned to dispatch the item on September 14, 2013.
Me:That's excellent news, thank you."

Alll orders using 'expedited ' or 'one day' delivery methods will be dispatched on Monday 16th September because it is sent using a next day service via courier and is guaranteed next day.

Orders placed with the 'first class' (Royal Mail) delivery method will be dispatched on Saturday 14th September because it is not a guaranteed next day service and therefore they are allowing 2 working days to get to you to avoid any disappointment.

Regarding R* request to all orders not to be despatched before 16th September. It appears only Game.co.uk has come forward and said they are respecting the request. Please do take note it was only a request from R* and not a demand.

Quotes from two Amazon members on their discussions. Seems pretty damn likely. :)

I was hoping that you can Dual wield pistols/weapons like Max Payne 3. Still there is no confirmation of whether dual wielding will be in the game or not. Anyway can't wait for the game and I'm expecting I will be playing the game this week or it's just a dream :)

I hope so. Finally reaching hitman status on San Andreas with the sawed off shotgun was so satisfying. It was so destructive.

You are now connected to Neal from Amazon.co.uk

Me:Hello, is it true that Grand Theft Auto 5 will be preparing for dispatch on the 14th of September?

Neal:Hello, my name is Neal. I'll be happy to help you. First of all, can you please verify the name on your account?

Me:Sahin Erdogan.

Neal:Thanks, can I also take your e-mail and billing address please?

Me: Email Address Here
Home Address Here

Neal:Great, that's perfect Sahin. So you've preordered GTA is that correct?

Me:That's correct.
I have heard it'll be preparing to be dispatched on 14th by multiple friends.
Despite Rockstar's request.

Neal:Me too! I literally can't wait for it! It is scheduled currently to dispatch on the 14th but this can change. However, the order will be delivered on release day: September 17th

Me:Awesome! Great, thank you, I cannot wait any longer for this game!

Neal:I know, me too. I have my preorder in as well. Our system is still showing an estimate dispatch date of the 14th but like you say Rockstar are requesting that GTA V shouldn't be dispatched until the 16th
Even if your dispatch date changes, it will be delivered on release date

Me:That's good to hear that bit of reassurance then. Thank you for your help.
Have a great day and enjoy it when it drops!

Neal:You too!
Have a good weekend

Here we go. I just contacted a rather friendly member of Amazon who also pre-ordered GTA5 and pretty much confirms 14th September is planned for dispatch. It's possible it'll be delivered on Monday too. Yes, Sahin is my name, I just contacted them, so this is 100% legit.

Great news here.

I can't wait to destroy the military base.

I'm digging the part about no difference between platforms, but like VIRTUALLY no difference or one is slightly better than the other in one particular or a few small particular ways. I need to know this answer soon, gauyz

The answer is get it on whatever platform you are more comfortable with and have the majority of your friends playing on.

Then go ahead and double dip if a PC version is released. Then buy again if it's ported to next gen.

Wait, no hidden packages? One of my favorite things about open world games, especially if they are tied to bonuses or stats. Most depressing news for me so far.

Based on history, the 360 version is the safer way to go. And it's also apparently the version they've been showing recently. But at least this time, both should be fine.

Quick'n'dirty IGN Q&A transcript:

How did the game perform technically?
--- Lots of detail, occasionally pop-up, you don't notice it.

Does it run smoothy on PS3/360?
--- Ran smoothly on 360 debug unit and PS3, no issues, no noticable difference.

Are those graphics really on current gen machines?
--- Yes.

Will there be a demo before release?
--- No. No chance.

Have the game mechanics from Midnight Club, Red Dead and Max Payne been used effectively to make GTA V the best in all areas?
--- Not the best, but improved in all areas. The shooting, and cover are similar to
Max Payne. The driving feels tighter.

Can you play the campaign in co-op?
--- No. Single player only. The world carries over into multiplayer with co-op in mind.

Are stealth kills back?
--- Don't know, but stealth will play a bigger part- examples being silencers for guns.

Will we get bugged constantly via phone if we don't do missions?
--- Wasn't a problem during their playtime.

Why didn't you tell us what's underwater?
--- Didn't see it during hands-on. We know it's there, it will play a big part.

Would it be possible for me and friends to get into submarines and have a game of battleships?
--- The know submarines are in, haven't seen any battleships

How many hours of story?
--- We don't know, hard to judge with so much other stuff to do.

Have you seen the map, how big is it?
--- Yes we have, it's vast. The whole map is open from the start, there is a "cloud of war" type system that hids parts of the map. Some parts will be hard to get into, like military bases.

Can I base jump from the start of the game or do I have to earn/find a parachute first?
--- You have to equip a parachute to basejump. Mount Chillad is massive.

Any dogs online?
--- Dogs will be in GTA online.

Are there still vigilante cop missions?
--- We don't know, Rockstar isn't saying. Hidden packages are not back. There are hidden missions you can get from paying attention to the radio that you can investigate and complete.

What are some of the weapons?
--- pistols, automatic pistols, SMG, ARs, baseball bats, golf clubs, knives, miniguns, grenade launchers, rocket launchers, sniper rifles, and more. You can hold every weapon at the same (including weapons of the same type), and you can customize most of the weapons.

Do cars need filling up with gas?
--- No.

Are custom soundtracks in the game.
--- Can't confirm yes or no. Hell of a a lot of licensed music.

Is there a Kavinsky radio station?
--- Not confirmed. Radio station selection works like the weapon wheel.

I know you can switch the engine on and off, but can the switch off headlamps entirely?
--- Yes you can switch off headlamps. Hold down right on d-pad, same button to open/close roof.

What military vehicles did you see? An Apache? A jump-jet? Or even a tank?
--- Haven't seen the Apache, did see light military helicopter. In trailers we've seen jets and tanks.

How many cars or in the game?
--- More cars then any other GTA game, customizable.

Controlling Niko sometimes felt like controlling a tank. Have the controls been tightened up?
--- Definitely. Best comparisons are Red Dead and Max Payne. The movements are fluid and each character moves differently.

How long would it take to ride from one end of the map to the other on a push bike?
--- No idea.

Do the characters feel unique or is it just simply a new skin between the 3?
--- Yes. They feel different, from the way they move, to their places they live and the people they interact with.

Any old characters returning?
--- Don't think so.

Is the main story one story featuring the 3 characters, or three different stories interwoven? Also, how complex is the character switching in mission?
--- Character switching is easy, uses d-pad and stick. Happens almost instantly if they are close. It's one storyyou see through 3 different protagonists.

How much customization can you do to the characters?
--- the campaign characters you can change clothing, the online characters you can change hair, tattoos, etc. Don't think you'll be able to give Micheal an afro.

Who do you meet first- Michael, Franklin or Trevor?
--- We don't know, we were just dropped into the world, Trevor you don't meet until a little later.

I think comparisons are generally posted on launch day or after. So you'll have to wait until the 17th.

Yup its fake and I want people to know that so I posted the original picture too..

I made the GTA V one just to troll my friends on facebook, and then i saw it on N4G because of that arabian dude -_-
Don't worry, btw nice Gamerscore, hoping that is not shopped. :p

IGN said both run identically.

Of course they are. But they were playing on debug console, and who knows what final version will look like.
I want PS3 version but i'm scared that it'll look bad. Maybe my best bet is buy on PS3, and then buy for 360 if it runs or looks bad.

That doesn't mean a thing. Debug consoles have the same specs as regular consoles, but can run unsigned code. It will be final code they are running, just not off a published disc.

Bigger the map, the better, as far as I'm concerned. What wouldn't be fun is a little baby map where all the packages are in one area...

And when you're missing 2-3 packages, you have to search the whole map for them. Not just land, but also sea. Some reports say to transverse the map you'll need more than 30min, and that's just land. Don't forget all the buildings you can go in, all the sea you can explore.

Just to compare, you could transverse the Liberty City in GTA 4 in 4min
