• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

GTA V has gone gold.

Please help me, GAF.

Trying to decide if the extra £25 is worth it for the Steelbook edition. I like steelbooks :(

Anyone else on board? Need opinions.

Depends if you want the blueprint map etc.

Personally going for the standard because the other two don't seem that great to me.

Define 'worth'? Is the material cost worth the extra money? No...it never is. Also, I am pretty confident that the digital extras will become DLC as it did with Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, and Max Payne 3.

R*'s hype machine is unmatched. I haven't started to have dreams, but it's honestly taking over my life.
I refresh this thread at least every hour hoping for any kind of new info/leaks.

I'd probably pay an obscene amount of money to get a copy of this game before launch.

Many many people would. Hell I would. R* could make so much money by selling the game direct a week or two before official retail release for $150-200 bucks.

I jumped on that edition months ago. Seems like a nice package. I usually never buy special editions, but I figured I could make an exception for GTA V. $20 extra ain't too bad.

Can't wait for this. Managed to contain my hype but now it's starting to trickle over.

Any recent previews over the last month or so that I should read?

I can already see the next gen DD stores releasing games a day or two earlier than brick and mortar stores.

Most likely. Might even come on Thursday if lucky.

Hopefully, yeah. There's like one 15 minute from me which breaks street date as soon as they get stock in. Contemplating getting the game ASAP. I don't really do it with non-fighting games, but it might be worth it for GTA...

I can't personally & even if they did the physical stores would break the broken street date that DD store broke just to stay in business with more over heads etc.
I thought one of the reasons devs/pubs were behind DD was to have a greater on control over there product?

Let's talk hype: My wife is pregnant, right? Whenever i'm talking about the "baby" she isn't sure whether I mean our unborn daughter or GTA V.

That's hype ;)

i didnt read any reviews of the game mostly because i want to be completly unspoiled. But i have a rather game breaking question:
How are the driving physics?
This could be a potential deal breaker for me. What I want is the the same as GTA 4. What i dont want at all is Saints Row driving. I play that game, and drive 20 meters and switch off my console because im so anoyed from the driving.
So, GAF, tell me if i can save 60 € or not.

Of course it's not, it's a box that will sit on your shelf. It all depends on the balance between steelbook lust and pocket money I would guess. But my opinion, don't bother.

I'm glad somebody else is allergic to the SR series like me, that game feels like shit to play. I would assume the physics in V would be similar to IV - maybe a touch tighter/more responsive but I'm confident they won't fuck with it too much. Just think of how the driving changed between 3, VC and SA - little changes but mostly the same thing.

So disappointed in everyone hating on GTAIV driving. It was perfect. Really, really hope Rockstar stuck with that instead of the terrible driving in other open world games.

Yeah, I can mess around for a good while in 4 just driving around. I don't really like extremely arcadey driving. Though, the previous GTA's driving never really bothered me. As long as it isn't over the top in 5.

I loved it to death, which anyone that knows me around here will attest to. However seeing the light, I'd disagree with it being 'perfect'. I loved the weight, I loved the timing of slides but at high speed and in some situations, they just felt too floaty and driving fast wasn't as pleasurable - It was great for drifting.

So I hope they lowered the center of mass on the cars, gave them some stability but kept the weight.

With that said, if they go all out shitty arcade handling - I won't be playing the game for very long.

I did not hate on it. It suited the realism GTA IV was pursuing but I doubt it will fit in a world where you can parachute from your car when you ride down a cliff. Give me a middle ground and I will be happy.

I keep watching the gameplay videos over and over, pausing at certain spots to just take it all in. Hopefully two weeks today we might get it delivered.

Waiting for this game is making my work days go so slow. I can't wait until the weekend after it releases. Either that or I'll just play all night during the week and be a zombie at work.

whens the revew embargo

Launch day, from the looks of it. I'm starting to doubt that there's gonna be even print review sooner than that. Right now, they still can't tell us if and how a review event will be held. Which seems to indicate they're aiming to have no review at all before launch.

What the fuck.

Folks, why can't it be Sept 17? Why have the gods abandoned us.

I keep hoping Rockstar will simply just allow the digital switch to flip and let us have it ASAP! I'm just too pumped for a new gta, holy shit.

Wtf really? Have they not told journo's when they can expect review copy's?

I really don't think that's going to happen

There's an old Gamaustra article about how a large number of reviews only got their reviewers copies of GTA4 a day before its release. So it wouldn't surprise me if they did the same thing here. It's not like they need reviews anyway, so they don't really have to work on any usual schedule that other developers do when it comes to reviews.

I'll be shocked if there aren't at least some reviews out at midnight of release day. IGN, Gamespot, Giant Bomb, etc. The bigger sites.

The car weaving through traffic in the singleplayer gameplay demo looked like it had more grip than any scenario in IV + the expansions, so people hoping the traction and physics are 100% the same might as well give up now. At the same time, they obviously won't be going back to San Andreas style, or changing to floaty Saints Row or semi-floaty Sleeping Dogs styles. It'll probably be a solid middle ground between IV and Midnight Club.

They already stated multiple times they tweaked it. Plus, every single scene we've seen is with grippy supercars. Watch the Franklin footage of the red sedan that drifts, you can see there's still weight in the cars.

My point was that not even the best cars in IV gripped like what we've seen in V so far. Try any move like what was pulled on the highway in the GTAV trailer and it's immediately a balancing act as if you're skidding out on black ice, even with the sports cars. Yes there will still be weight, and lower class cars will have less traction, but it's reasonable to assume that grip and controlling fishtailing from top to bottom will be improved.
