• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

GTA V has gone gold.

Please help me, GAF.

Trying to decide if the extra £25 is worth it for the Steelbook edition. I like steelbooks :(

Anyone else on board? Need opinions.
I had the same problem a bit ago, but finally decided on the standard edition. The steelbook and the map look really nice, but the DLC seems pretty worthless to me. But then again, it's up to you - if you think the extras and case are worth the additional £25, do it. If not, go for the standard edition.

Decided to ditch the Steelbook edition.

It's not worth it.

Is there any more gameplay? I'm kind of annoyed at the lack of footage. :/

I believe it was Dan Houser that said that they prefer for their fans to experience their games rather than them talking about it or showing it to them. That's why they don't release a ton of media or do many interviews for them.

Yes, he also acknowledges that it frustrates some players, but that it pays off in the end, to experience a game you know little about.

Yes, he said it in an interview with Gamasutra (page 3).

GS; One of the other things that this studio is well known for is very carefully controlling the information that comes out before and during a game. In the movie industry, they are offering fans more of a peek behind the curtain of late.

DH: Yeah.

GS; It doesn't seem like you are very eager to embrace that. Does it take away the magic?

DH: That's really it. It was really important to us that the games felt kind of magical. And seeing too many videos and or even seeing interviews of us sitting there pointing stuff out and showing how it's all done [detracts from that].

I think with the movies, the less you know about the stars the better. The best movies are where you go and don't know anyone that's in it. And we want to keep that feeling -- we always did and continue to want it now -- where it might annoy people that we don't give out more information. But I think the end point is people enjoy the experience.

Obviously, it's a balancing act to sell the game... We used to have an exact formula for how much information you give out and how much you wouldn't. Literally, it was sort of a pie chart. It's hard to be that controlling, but you certainly want features that people are discovering. Some amount they learn about in advance, and some amount in reviews, but hopefully you can keep [other aspects] quiet until [people] are actually playing the game, because you want it to have the surprises and you want it to be magic.

The less they know about how things are pieced together and how things are exactly broken down, and exactly what our processes are, the more it will feel like this thing is alive, that you are being dragged into the experience. That's what we want.

The issue with this recently is that they've gotten into the habit of announcing games WAY too early so the hype cycle feels like it takes forever. What's their last console game that didn't have a 1 to 3+ year gap between announcement/teaser to release? Hell, we're STILL waiting for Agent. Thank God they never put out a proper trailer for that.

sorry for dbl post but its stuff like this that make R* so great. They really get it.

Just the way I like it. It also means when I see an interview with someone from R* it's going to actually be worth reading. I look at even the front page of gaf and see how much digital noise and rent a quote articles I see from a lot of other devs it just becomes a big pile of mush. Obviously a lot of that is posters taking the most incendiary bit of an interview and posting it but still..

I also know that when I finally unpack the game and put it in my console it hasn't been overplayed in play through videos.

They've shown enough for me to know I'll be buying it.

Anyone else trying to get their setup perfect for the game? Buying new controllers and whatnot - Had to pick up that 'new' Razer controller just to be set. My god it's good.

Just gonna ask ONE more question.

Reckon the game'll be as fun without online? I hardly use XBL.

Of course. Though GTA Online does seem like it's going to be a major branch of the franchise moving forward so I don't see why you wouldn't at least give it a shot. I wouldn't be surprised to see all of the DLC be exclusively for GTAO, and for GTAO to hit next-gen before another singleplayer installment of GTA does.

The bigger the build up, the better the pay off. They know exactly what they are doing when it comes to marketing.

I rarely buy XBL but I'd be willing to pay £15 for 3 months then probably again if I enjoy it.

Well, the online portion only unlocks on the 1st of October, so no one will be able to say for sure for about 2 weeks from the day it comes out.

The singleplayer will probably be amazing, but the online trailer also seems very exciting and fresh. I think Rockstar have said they want to treat the singleplayer and multiplayer as different games in and of themselves, so both portions will no doubt get support.

But again, it's up to you - I for one am incredibly hyped for the online portion of the game.

Interesting, how much improved is your pad from the Onza TE? I have the onza TE & button functions are great but build quality shocking, had 2 replaced & ended up buying a Scuf animal.

I haven't had my hands on the Onza but I heard of a lot of negative things. So I read a few reviews on this things and it was getting praised to high heavens. It feels as solid as the regular 360 controller, perfect weight, sticks feel tight and weighty, Dpad is fantastic and the 4 buttons feel solid. I think they stepped up their game big-time after the Onza.

I'll probably eat me words when it breaks in 2 weeks :P

However it was destructoids review that pushed me over the edge http://www.destructoid.com/review-razer-sabertooth-241671.phtml

Ah cool thanks, After the onza I was kinda put off by razer products. If it weren't for the Scuf I'd give it a go, Awesome pad but is it worth the price tag(£120)? I don't think they are.

Yeah it's quite expensive and on a budget, I probably wouldn't buy it either. However I can afford it, so might as well :P

GTA V preorder is listed in the Belgian store in the category topdeals at 9.99.
When clicked, it appears to be going to the gamepage, but then suddenly returns back to the first screen. :(
