GTA V has gone gold.

I'm really hoping we get a moving story out of this, but considering the history of the series, I'm thinking it's probably not in the cards.

I'm thinking the overall package will be worth more than we'll pay on launch day, and I've never bought a GTA at launch before.

I don't think much can go wrong

I think revitalized mission structure is what the series needs most. I'll enjoy the hell out of the game regardless, but if they can freshen up the way missions are handled it'll really shine.

There's no doubt in my mind that gameplay will be golden, as it's kind of the key with this series, but I think the industry needs to push the story-telling bounds, and Rockstar has the potential to do it. I guess we'll see.

The fact that we're able to switch between each of the 3 characters almost anytime is mindblowing both from a gameplay and a technical perspective. I mean if Rockstar created a unique scenario every time you switch to see what they're up to (even outside of missions) is crazy...

Where is this plane flying to?

It's heading northeast and there's ocean past those mountains.

Going by franchise history, I can see that.

But, over the course of this gen, R* have really grown as storytellers, IMO. Both Max Payne 3 and (especially) RDR had great stories, with many poignant moments.

I mean, I wouldn't just blindly expect it in GTA, because that series has always had a layer of satire covering the entire thing, but, I have a good feeling that the story will, at least, be well-thought-out.

I've lost interest in almost every other game I regularly play because of this game. I want nothing else at this point. 2 weeks from right now, 11:24pm on Monday evening, I'll be waiting in line at GameStop for my $150 super-special edition GTA V.

I can't do this anymore. Freeze me.

Did Dan Houser also write Red Dead Redemption? Because if so then he's improved on some level. RDR wasn't a masterpiece of writing but it was pretty good and by the end you're invested into the story and the main character.

I can remember mostly the layout of RDR's story while the only thing I remember from GTAIV's story was the part at the end
where either Kate or Roman dies. I remember there being two different enemy to fight at the end but the only one I can remember is Dimitri

I want to see if it's possible to play as one character through the entire game.

Just feels like they've fleshed out each character as if it was. Each with their own "support/side" characters they have to deal with.

It's Sept. 17 today. Right?

I think that they said that every character has also their own missions. Meaning you will have to change the character in order to access it.
It's just something out of the back of my head, could be not true.

What's the digital price for you guys like ?
In Switzerland it's fucking 85$, shit is ridiculous...
(Boxed price is 79$ - what.)

Interesting. Lazlow is taking GTA V on a pre-release tour, and letting some radio hosts get their hands on the game. Something extremely similar happened with GTA IV (on the Opie and Anthony show, if I recall). Anyway, it seems some tidbits of information got revealed. Nothing too spoilerific, but it does concern drug use, and some vehicles you can drive:

During the demo, Trevor hijacks a train and 'beats the shit out of the conductor'

Each character seems to have their own drug of choice. Michael drinks. Franklin smokes weed. Trevor uses meth. (I'm not quite sure on this one)

Actual LA gang members were recorded for the ambient voices of Los Santos gang members

Each character has their own background score. Trevor's is more 'country', for instance

The graphics are really impressive

It's no doubt subjective what one person will consider "moving" storytelling. I thought the whole trinity plotline (Niko,Johnny,Louis) about the diamonds and heroine in 4 was good for a GTA game. Without getting into spoilers each of the three perspectives had it's moments.

The GTA3 universe was massive too- but i guess it lacked the feels tho?

Set your console to the UK, the games are way cheaper digital. Even at the RRP of £50, that's about 10 CHF cheaper than wog.ch

I'll wait, i'm from austria and i don't buy games from germany since they are always censored, yes it says 100% UNCUT but when you look at schnittberichte some shit is always cut, no thanks i'll wait for my local store to get it.

GTA IV wasn't censored, right?

Yeah I remember some stuff beeing cut from my copy of gta:sa on my ps2. I live in Denmark, but somehow they sold me an australian version of the game.. Pissed me off..

Gonna go downtown in my city today here in Jersey and see if I can get it early next week. This was such a great year for games.

I was playing Max Payne 3 this weekend to calm my desires for GTA V. I really hope GTA V has a cohesive and compelling story that makes me want to play the game and not just dick around in an airplane, on a golf course, in the wilderness with a hunting rifle, or in a clothing store.

Does anybody know if only the big sites have review copies of the game..? Or is it like the gta iv hotel review stuff again..?

I asked for a review copy, and they just told me it would be sent out on the 16th or 17th.. We have a VERY small site..

Can someone tell me about GTA IV hotel review?

Reviewers who got to review the game before release all did so during supervision from rockstar employees. European reviewers stayed at a hotel in london (if I remember correctly), where they only got to play the game for a certain amount of hours.. And they gave the game 10/10.. Tada..

Not even full walktrough?

Thought I'd share,

Just spoke to a friend who owns an indie store here in the UK.

He told me that the GTA V release is locked up tighter than a nuns knickers! He deals with 4 companies in the UK in obtaining software supplies, of those four three aren't getting any stock meaning he's left to deal with one. The rep stated that for him to be able to get stock he had to put preorder advertising on the shop door, counter, preorder case in the window & a preorder card on display, he said "it's as if these reps want the red carpet out & they haven't released a game in 3 years", this is out of the norm for him.

Now my friend usually has no issues obtaining software & regularly breaks street date as & when ( he's a small business owner & it helps keep steady custom ). Halo 4 was 3 weeks early, MW3 8 days early, BO2 a week early, you get the gist. Infact I can't remember a title where he said it wouldn't be early until now, he's getting nothing until release date & he's not known a release like this!

I hope he's wrong but highly doubt it, bummer if like me you were expecting to get GTA V early,

Its pretty well documented that Rockstar are probably the worst major publisher to deal with when it comes to reviews so I wouldnt be shocked.

You dont have to dig deep to find history of Rockstar being a bit dodgy come review time.

Kind of silly IMO because they do make great games for the most part and its not like they gain anything other then being controlling dickheads but I think they just like creating that Rockstar mystique, even for the press.

Yeah I remember reading some gamereactor reviewers story of how he reviewed GTA4. Sounded so fucking weird being at a hotel for a few days, playing the game supervised like that. The R* guys would leave the hotel but come and check in every once in a while, he said he had given up on actually finishing the game on his last day but the R* guy came in and told him he only had a few more missions to go, so he ended up making i through.

But I guess with their bad experiences (like Manhunt 2 beta leak from Sony) made them even more paranoid than they used to be.

Only getting them on release date? Damn doesn't sound too good. Maybe someone snitched on him. I'm seeing my local indie store guy later this week. I'll see what his saying.

HMV and Game are doing midnight launches so when would they be getting their allocation? surely it would be the previous Thursday or Friday?

I wanted to get a weekend and a few days with this before I fly out on the following Thursday. Hopefully he'll get it on the Friday...
