GTA V has gone gold.

After installing this to the hard drive will the game still be reading from the disc? I'm wondering because my 360 drive has had some issues lately.
 
I have no clue. I mean I think it will do well, but tough to nail it down exactly. GTA is huge, but console exclusive retail seems to be somewhat shitty these days.

Didn't GTA IV sell 3 million the first day? I can see V doing 2-3 million again.

Take into consideration that GTA V comes at a perfect time where it is the end of a console generation and there is a huge install base on both platforms.

That's true. I think I just spend too much time on NeoGAF which is often different from the general public. So my view is a bit warped. Too many "I'm simply done with current gen, not buying GTA until it hits PS4" posts.

Don't know about first day/week but it sold 11 million in 1 month.

I expect GTA V to do better than this on a much larger install base.

3.6m in the first day. I think you're really underestimating its sales if you're only putting it at 2-3m. You're looking at something more like 7-8m on the first day. For comparison, I believe Modern Warfare 3 holds the current record at 6.5m on its first day.
 
GTA IV did 3.6M on day one with a user base that was around a quarter of what it is today. BO2 is the current record holder for day one sales at over 7.5M.

I really can't see V only matching IV's day one sales.

Maybe you're right.

Also a product of my time on GAF I guess :lol lots of negativity towards R* and it being on current gen systems around here.
 
At the same time, I'm not sure if it will hit Black Ops 7.5m record because there is such a rush with CoD games to rank up faster than others and not be left behind as a lower rank. With GTA Online launching 2 weeks later, it might not have that same pull. Still, I'd wager a solid 5m+, maybe 6m because of the install base.

Also for some reason I feel like a lot of the CoD crowd doesn't follow GTA Like they used to. My girlfriends brother and his friends (15 - 17 year olds) aren't really excited for GTA.. They don't talk about it. Yet for my friends (late 20s), it's the biggest game release in years. Anybody else notice this?

Couldn't agree more, saying IV and not 4 was incredibly dumb.
 
Jesus, as it because more people are snapping shots in general or is the public advertisement for this game the most crazy for any video game to date?
 
Not sure why they always use the 3 main characters artworks. Imo it would be better to show some awesome police car chase scene.

Indeed.

FIFA/Madden, CoD and GTA are the three games that people who usually only buy 1-2 games a year will be picking up. The ads are rolling out now. By mid next week I imagine there won't be anyone who travels to work by public transport or drives past a billboard or who watches TV that wont know this games is coming out very soon.
 
Worst case scenario:

5 millions the first day
12 millions the first month


My forecast

7-8 millions the first day
16-18 millions the first month
25 millions the first year or 30 if pc/next gen versions releases in the first half

50 millions before becoming a smartphone game in 2023
