GTA V has gone gold.

Rockstar gave a statement on this a few months ago. They feel that gamers in general should play their game without knowing every little detail, whether that is property purchasing, character creation or more side activities. They encourage the gamer to find out everything on their own, so if they would allow IGN to write a hands-on by explaining the details you want, it would totally contradict themselves. I know how you feel and I agree with you in certain ways but the sense of stepping into the game without knowing the majority of it is definitely something more developers should revert back to.

I agree with you in spirit. My complaint is with IGN then. "GTAV WEEK! ... where we package up information you already knew and put it into an EXCLUSIVE top 10 you can't find anywhere else."

It's supposed to go live at 12 PST. If you're on the west coast then yeah, this isn't a big deal. Unfortunately, I'm not, and staying up until 3am so that I can start downloading something that everyone else in my timezone got to start playing 3 hours ago is not something I'm interested in.

Benefits to those who live in LA as a celebration of the game's release. I guess I'm okay.

I stayed up at 3am to download Last of Us. I'll definitely do it for GTA.

I've seen many announcements of midnight launch locations in other countries but no info about USA yet. Wonder when GameStop will announce store locations...

Game sending out emails for orders. Sounds like Rockstar are trying to lock down early releases, like with Red Dead. The only shop to order to not show up a day early. Max Payne 3 was fine though. I hoped Rockstar lightened up a bit..

Yep, GAME order email states Rockstar have asked retailers to not deliver before the 16th. Glad I went with Amazon rather than spending £7 extra at ShopTo on the off chance of getting it early.

Just check with your local GameStop but it seems inevitable they'll be doing a midnight release. It just depends on the preorder numbers for your local store but so far some folks in different states are reporting their local GS stores are committing to a midnight launch.

Apparently Rockstar has issued an ultimatum that no UK retailer can ship the game before the 16th.

It won't matter, I remember myself playing RDR the week before release, it was awesome. Of course you won't get that buying in big stores.

Got this email from GAME:

GTA V is released on 17th September and Rockstar, who publish it, have worked very hard to make it the
biggest gaming launch ever. They have requested that no UK retailer despatch GTA V before the 16th September
and GAME, along with all reputable retailers, will respect this request.

Your order is being despatched by Royal Mail First Class who have a 97.6% next day delivery rate. We will ensure
that your order is despatched via Royal Mail in time for release day.

They also said they'd be processing my order earlier than usual due to it being GTA.

DId they do the same for RDR? I am pretty sure I got RDR early from ShopTo.

Nah, they delivered it on Friday for me. I remember they had a little notice on the pre orders page saying they would send out all copies on the Thursday. I do remember some Game people getting it a day early though. Why I went with them this time. The dumb shit I do for one day early releases..allowed me to finish Alan Wake back in 2010 at least.

One of the biggest electronics retailer in the country started selling RDR a day early. Needless to say news traveled fast, so I went over there [place was actually in my town] and the stack of copies they had lying there was enormous, I had never seen that big a mountain of the same game before.

They totally calculated on it and banked heavy, people traveled from all over the place and it was crowded as hell.

But that is IGN for you. Their overall promotion for their own information they provide is ridiculous. They love themselves more than they love gaming.

I've never had this much trouble deciding on which platform to pick up a multiplatform game. What's the general consensus around here?

PS3 for me. Mainly due to cancelling my Live subscription, and judging by the news, both versions will be nearly identical this time around.

If that's all you're interested in then... I guess not.

I don't know why you wouldn't take the chance to explore the map and get used to the controls or mechanics of the game first though.

I'd kind of prefer doing that stuff with my friends the first time we all play it together.

I'm considering buying a PS3 for this as well, but I remember distinctly that Rockstar claimed the same with GTA3. It wasn't even close to equal.

Now sure if I should get the USK or PEGI version from AT, I know that Rockstar said it will be uncut in germany but every publisher says this about their game until someone finds out it's really not.
And that damn USK logo blocks the poor dog on the cover :(
I assume the future DLC will be working for the PEGI version when I buy it from the german psn store (USK)?

Well they've only been showing the PS3 version of the game so far, and I'm sure they'd want people to see the game looking its best. I'm aware they have a marketing deal with Sony, but still.

the only real tech impressions we have are from the 360 version though.

its a german site.

no stuttering, pop-ins almost not noticeable and the difference between this and gta4 graphics are gigantic

I can only play the PS3 version, since I'm so used to using the DualShock for GTA games dating back to th PS2 era.

I feel like the only person who didn't mind that article today, I didnt learn much new but It still got me a bit excited.

Need to preorder my PSN version when I move into my new flat on sunday.

I thought it was awesome, especially part two.

aha I prefer part one tbh. Me and my friends used to gather weapons and bungle into a van to rob the Burger Shots. Most of it had to be improv but GTA is the only game I can think of that gives you the freedom to do it! Now it looks like they are adding some tools to help!

Yep, me too. Can't wait to crew up and rob a liquor store.

GTA IV and RDR were lacking for sure, but Max Payne 3 looked stellar. Seems R* finally got a handle on the mechanics of the PS3 with Max Payne. I have high hopes.

I just played some open world games in preparation for GTA V... Mafia 2 still has the best looking city.

Great preparation game, just gave me an idea to do the same. Please let it snow in V in those mountains somewhere. Had an amazing feel in Mafia II with it.

I've got both the PS3 and 360 Collector's Editions pre ordered, and my original plan was to read some impressions in the morning and then go pick up my copy. But when I was picking up Diablo 3 yesterday, I was informed that my local EB Games was forgoing their usual launch method (9 AM opening) and finally doing a midnight launch. Unless something leaks, I might just have to flip a coin. xD

Hopefully Digital Foundry will have some information before the release. I'm sure a few sites will also have reviews up, hopefully with some info on the console differences.

As long as we aren't talking GTA IV PS3 to 360 differences, I'm good. PS3 version was a blurry mess.

So i found out that my country's big electronic chain has been selling Gears of War Judgment a week early and Tomb Raider like 3 days earlier. I guess i'll try to get GTA V early, i think next friday is my best shot! Wish me a luck.

I also thought about playing/completing Mafia II on Xbox 360 but my tv won't change its signal to it, probably because of my HDMI switcher. =/
