• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

GTA V has gone gold.

"True gameplay"? The difference here is the HUD. We've seen plenty of shots that would count as "gameplay" if the HUD wasn't disabled.

HUD, camera angle, people actually playing the game... There are differences between an in-engine/game video and a gameplay video/shot.

You went for my throat, damn.

Broke skin too, brah.

Also, looks like I have to add IGN to the list of places NOT to visit until after the game releases. I've allowed myself to watch all official videos (gameplay and trailers) that Rockstar has released, I've seen all the official images released, and I've listened to a few tracks on Youtube that are appearing in-game. After that mountain climbing jif, I think I'm done. Full media blackout now.

So it's in-engine footage as we can see in every trailer, but not true gameplay. This is gameplay :

Yeah..I know.

Going forward how the hell Rockstar hope to make a GTA bigger then this, will be one of the big questions for the next gen.

The sheer scope and ambition is awesome. I've not been thier biggest fan this gen but they've redeemed themselves with this.

Not really sure what that has to do with anything. Rockstar has done custom soundtracks on console version of games before and so have many others.

GTA4 didn't have custom soundtracks so I doubt 5 will. They paid a lot for that music.

As far as I remember, the only console versions with custom soundtracks were the old XBox ports (and I'm not sure if that counts for San Andreas). "Independence FM" was missing on both console versions of GTA IV, so I don't think it's that far fetched to assume the same will happen to the console versions of V. I personally don't mind, I got an Astro Mixamp. Hooking up my Spotify playlist isn't as good as actually having those songs as part of a radio station, but it's better than nothing.

Do you think people didn't actually play the game in order to capture footage for the other trailers? Like I already said, there are plenty of shots that might as well be part of a "gameplay" video...if they had a HUD.

I don't know, they look really similar to GTA IV if you make them fullscreen based on my memory. The latest batch of screenshots look like direct screenshots from in-game to me. In motion it'll look even better than those screenshots if anything imo.

We'll see soon enough!

Why would I make it fullscreen? Not like the game will run in 1080p.

Btw this is how GTA4 looks on consoles

Not anywhere close to what we're seeing here... and shouldn't be. :P

Edit : beaten dammit.

You have a lot more strength than me.

Kudos to be able to back away. I need more!

I don't know and you don't know that.

But still, the HUD is not here and the camera angle is different. There are huge differences.

GTA IV looks great still.

Obviously PC looks better but if it looks moderately better with more work put into secondary characters, I'll be completely happy.

More interested in them fixing the broken ass mechanics than visual fidelity.

They're obviously grooming us to prepare for a full fledged GTA MMO next gen with how GTA Online looks. I just hope it's a separate project because I think (hope) that the Housers still think they can't do what they want to do with these games and their stories unless it's a single player game.

I wouldn't get too excited though. When San Andreas came out I was wondering how they could top it next gen. Would we get an entire country this time??? No we got a single, smaller city with a lot less features.

edit: That piss filter on 4 looks awful now. Didn't really bother me back then but seeing how colorful 5 is really puts it to shame.

Other people have already said it, but it's not the same, dude. Gameplay meaning how it will look when we actually play it.

It really doesn't. Looks like someone came in and smeared vaseline all over your screen displaying clay figures.

Ballad removed most of that though.
I remember being quite impressed with its IQ (being an open world game on console, of course), probably because i was coming from GTA4.

Do you think the basejump in the recent "Ego Chaser" trailer will look any different? Do people really need a HUD to be convinced what's gameplay and what's not?

Does anyone know if the song in the last trailer ("Sleepwalking" by Chain Gang of 1974) will actually be in the game? I don't remember seeing it on the leaked list, but, I want to drive around LS with that song in the background.

I don't know, man.

Yeah those are really ugly. Guess I've forgotten just how bad the IQ really was in GTA IV. Games like these look better in motion though. When you're driving around 100 mph you're not exactly going to be staring at a lamp post to notice it's jaggy or whatever lol.

I would get too much enjoyment out of using ninja stars in this game. Imagine if it used the same free aim system as guns and they would stick out of whatever part of the body you end up hitting.

FWIW, this seems to be the same animation Michael had in one of the screens (i can't find it in the official page, but it's the one of him jumping in the water from a boat or something)

Tangent regarding that GTA 4 pic w/ the silver car, I don't see how anyone can drive it the game w/ that default camara. I need it pulled way way out. It's driving me crazy in Midnight Club.

Let's hope we can use all that stuff.

Ninja stars, that would be so epic ( and ACTUALLY could work very well, i mean Red dead redemption had throwing knifes for stealth play, V could have these ninja stars, just a simple texture change a little change of animation and BOOM, it could work)

Yep, I need the camera way back and I have to keep correcting the angle so I can see forward more when I play. Hopefully the driving camera angle options are better in GTA V so I don't have to do that.

While it might be in engine gameplay and whatever, I think what I and what most people here want is someone sitting down playing the game. Not quick cuts like the trailers have been.

It's a console version.

All 360 games support custom soundtracks by default due to how the OS is designed.

PS3 games support it on a game-by-game basis, but that generally means that the game can do a lot more with it (like changing up the EQ in Wipeout).

The real question is, will they have custom soundtrack support on PS3?

TBH, that was my biggest annoyance with GTA IV's driving. I hated having to constantly adjust the camera or leave my thumb on the right stick to keep it in place. From the videos that have come out (mainly the online one) it looks a bit better I think.

It's not about that sort of custom soundtracks, it's about in game support, a "Independence FM" type station has previous GTAs had on the PC and XBox with its own DJ. There's really no excuse not to have it this time around.

not afraid to say I'm taking the 16th, 17th and 18th off for vacation
needed to use some vacation days, I still have a week left to take before the end of the year!

I did the same and I still have 70 hours of vacay and PTO to use before the end of the year

Someone brought up in the GTA forums that the shots of Liberty City seem to be upgraded in graphics, I can see better lighting and draw distance too. Could it be...?

LEb94kS.jpg

That's from an ingame commercial for Ammunation though... The city gets destroyed by aliens in the next frame.

There's a good change that Liberty City ends up as the first expansion for GTA:Online because they can reuse most of it, but maybe clean it up a bit. But I dunno if this is evidence of that.
