I'm at 1080p, massive pop in, floating cars. Awful frame rate.
Just built this PC today.
I5 4690
GTX 790
8gb ram
550w power supply.
Did you connect your video cable through the GPU?

I had a friend say that he read somewhere on the internet(where everything is to be believed)that custom soundtracks/self radio are causing performance issues for some. Can anyone here on GAF confirm or deny this claim?

I just checked and its not dual channel. Should I take it out and put it on the other color?

Yeah, I am. HDMI on my video card.Did you connect your video cable through the GPU?
Sorry if I'm asking some seriously stupid questions,
I'm sorry, you just blew my mind. Most memory nowadays I thought was sold in Dual or Quad Channel kits.
And its fucking fixed. 60 fps locked, mostly everything on high. Feels good man.
I took the PC out of its cubby, took off the side panel, reseated the cooler. (Was a bit loose)
I'm so dumb. Sorry guys.
Feels good man.
There's really no such thing of dual or quad channel memory.

I can pretty much confirm I lose 10-15 frames whenever I put on self radio. Sucks cause I never get to use it.
I've lost about 10 frames since the latest patch Rockstar put out. Absolutely ridiculous. A lot of people have noticed shittier performance too since launch.
MSI GTX 970 / i5 3570
I installed everything from the motherboard CD, so I'm guessing it was installed.
Im also playing borderlands 2 uncapped and everything maxed out and I get dips into the low 30s
You have a single 970? What model is it and is it overclocked? Because that's basically the opposite of what I get. I hover around 60-55 in the city and then with grass on ultra I drop to below 30 in any country area.
Sorry for the late reply.
Galax/KFA2 is the brand, it's currently at stock, which according to the product page on Overclockers are: Base 1050MHz, Boost 1177MHz, Memory 7010MHz.
Okay, I stopped writing to do a full daytime loop of San Andreas in a Comet to test framerates. In the city I managed to get a few seconds of under 60fps, and the lowest I got in those spots was about 54. The rest of the time the MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner OSD only showed anything under 60 for 1-2 refreshes at a time at most before going back up to 60+, with it hovering in the high 60s in parts and a top spot of 75. The absolute floor I saw was out in the country when I pulled off the freeway into a grassy field and did doughnuts, and that produced a low of 51.1 with an average of 54fps.
Now for the settings:
1080p
144hz
FXAA Off
MSAA X2
TAXX On
VSync Off (G-Sync)
Population Density 75
Variety 100
Distance Scaling 75
Texture Quality High
Shader Quality High
Shadow Quality High
Reflection Quality Ultra
Reflection MSAA Off
Water Quality High
Particles Quality Very High
Grass Quality High
Soft Shadows PCSS
Post FX Ultra
Motion Blur Off
In-game DoF Off
Anisotropic X16 (forced in NVCP and off in game, but won't stay off)
Ambient Occlusion High
Tesselation Very High
Long Shadows Off
High Resolution Shadows Off
High Detail Streaming On (SSD)
Extended Distance Scaling ~20%
Extended Shadows Distance Greyed Out
No Self Radio
The 970 is always (whenever I've looked) the bottleneck, being at 99% use. The 4690K (stock) has all four cores at between 65 and ~90% used.
Can someone guide me on how to warp to different locations in the Director mode? I want to test performance with different grass settings. I read somewhere you can do this in director mode or is it editor mode? I cant see any option for choosing location. How is it done please
Maybe you should oc that FX-8320 to 4ghz
The game doesnt have triple buffering, I use borderless windowed as thats triple bufferedJust realized I've been having the same issue I had in AC IV, where the game alternates between 60 and 30 and doesn't have anything in between. Decided to just up some of my lowered settings and set Vsync to capped 30 until I get a new GPU.

My settings are pretty different to yours, a lot higher but FXAA over MSAA on the 970 and hold 60fps even at the sawmill. Although I'm at 1545/7800Mhz. The GPU usage varies a lot for me, 45-95% usage. i7 3770 4.25Ghz and 8gb 2000Mhz ram.
After you enter director mode continue till you land in game. Then hold Back button on the 360 pad to open the quick menu. In there you can warp to any location and do a whole bunch of other things in real time.
Is it just me or does AF not work properly? I've tried both the 16x ingame setting and nvidia's high quality 16x AF driver setting and it still only looks like 4xAF is being applied.

Nah, AF isn't working in my game either. At least with the in-game setting. But now you say that even forcing it with the nvidia control panel also doesn't work? Damn. Rockstar has their work cut out for them:
- Self Radio stuttering (annoying as shit)
- Missing AO
- Missing AF
The game does have AO though, right? You just can't turn it off or adjust it in any way.
I see a lot of people using PCSS. It has a considerable performance hit on my 970. Looks great but not sure if it's worth it since it's bringing me below 60 here and there.

Pop-in, jaggies and performance seem to be a lot worse for me compared to the unpatched game. Not sure what the fuck Rockstar did.
You sure that would be safe? I still got the stock cooling and i don't have any extra cooling system except 4 fans.
So anyone with 16gb ram, i7 4790k, and R9 290x, how are you doing ?
I've asked this many times, no answers![]()
I have that exact setup, games been working fine for me. Pretty much everything on Very High with FXAA (I can drop 2-3 settings down to High and use MSAA if I want). I have all the Advanced features completely off except the flying one.
Sounds great!
Someone earlier mentioned that the Self Radio stutters occured when the CPU was 100% loaded. I can now verify this. All the other radio stations have my CPU usage up around the 65% area. Once I switch on Self Radio my usage shoots up near the 85% range for all four cores. During a stutter I see my usage spike up too 100%.
So strange. I really hope R* can fix this.
I've found that the number of songs you have has a huge impact on how big the performance drop is.
I had about 20~ songs originally and saw no performance drops. I later added my big list of 220 songs and the framerate would drop by about 10 frames when I listened to self radio. Might be worth trimming down your lists if you've got a lot.

Hows SLI scaling for you all? I'm floating between 50-70% on two Titan Xs which is less than ideal...
I5 4690 and GTX 970 and it was damn choppy at very high settings and that included the sound. So weird. Had to set it down to high to get it playable.
And I set to high and this shit is unacceptable. 30 frames with dips into the teens.
I'd advise bumping up/down the bolded. The thing to turn down is reflections from ultra which has a huge framerate hit but, unless you're spending a lot of time staring at reflections up close, you will not be able to notice a difference between ultra and very high. You also want to keep textures at highest which should not affect framerate unless you exceed your VRAM (or 3.5 GB in the 970's case). Water and shaders have very little framerate cost so I'd leave those at highest. If you can stand some dips, I would even bump up Shadow Quality to Very High which enables headlight/helicopter spotlight dynamic shadows off of dynamic objects (eg. NPCs, cars, certain things that can be destroyed). Now for the settings:

I have a 280X, and GTA V runs great. See the following link for my specs and settings and performance. Basically, mostly 1080p60 with dips to ~45-50 during the most strenuous parts of the game (sunset being chased by 5-star cops through grass with headlights and helicopter spotlights on and gunfire everywhere). So anyone with 16gb ram, i7 4790k, and R9 290x, how are you doing ?
