GTA V PC Performance Thread

Assuming you can get through to get the game fully validated /decrypted/unlocked, I would hope so.

And it's a matter of when, not if Rockstar social club melts down. It barely holds together with the current crop of releases. Social club went down twice over this past weekend that I know yof. Throw in a whole new wave of players, on wildly varying machines, it's going to be a shitshow.

Sounds wonderful..... Here's hoping I make it through the validation. From what I've heard it's fairly unobtrusive but what you say is disheartening yet easily imagined.

Might've missed this, but will this game have a frame limiter or do I have to run some kind of 3rd party tool to limit it, just in case the variable fps will annoy me.

Exactly why do you all post your rigs? I would understand that if you already had the game, but now? Just why? And even rig photos, lol.

I don't give a shit about 4k, 1080p all the way. I think I'm set.

So, can anyone give me tips for moving the game from my HDD to my SSD once it's unencrypted?

I know I can cut and paste the files over, but then you have to delete the game from your library and Steam forces an integrity check which will take forever with 60gb.

Isn't there another file I can copy over so that Steam just thinks the game was originally installed on the SSD the whole time?

To overclock, or not to. Hmm. My CPU is an i5 3570k, what's the simplest clock speed I can safely achieve? 4.0 at least, right? I have an Evo 212 cooler.

My motherboard defaults to 4.0 for the generic onboard OC setting with that CPU. (MSI z77 Big Bang) so I'm fairly confident that it's a safe starting point.

From what I've seen, 4.4-4.7ish seems average if you have good cooling.

You can set the refresh rate separately from deciding to vsync. One screenshot even shows this set to 29hz. Further to that it is already confirmed you can go for 144hz if you want

I have my 4700K OC'd to 4.3 with the Evo 212+, with two fans push/pull config.

Anytime I try anything over 4.3GHz I have to boost the shit out of my voltage, and then I just get a BSOD. Not worth it for the voltage/temp trade off to go any higher for me, even though I would love 4.5GHz. it seems that 4.3GHz is as good as I can go on mine sadly :(

Not all chips are built the same.....

I use nvidia inspector to limit my frame rate to 120, set it and forget it. You can also set it with MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision, but you need those always running to keep that limit held.

I much prefer doing it with nvidia inspector.

So the nvidia patch just stealth introduced gsync for windowed mode? That should be big enough news to mention in the patch notes I think, since it basically removes the only drawback of the tech.

What about downsampling?
As far as I know downsampling doesn't work in windowed mode, right?
It stretches out to the other screens.

I'm running 4.3 on my 3570k with minimal voltage tweaking (on air). 4.4+ and it starts getting a little sketchy for me, but of course YMMV when overclocking.

I recall seeing a refresh rate in the graphics options.

Thanks! That is great, what an excellent option to include. No need to hunt down that tuner tool I used last time I had issue with fluctuating fps.

Just bumped my CPU up a bit in anticipation. I'm now a good bit above recommended settings. Even in 30fps I'll bet this is gonna look just wonderful. Played the PS3 version to completion on my 110" projector screen some time ago, and dang did the fuzzy graphics and frame drops hurt. Still, me finishing it despite that is a testament to how good the game is/was.

OK wow, didn't know this option even existed. Gonna try it out now.

(EDIT) No wait, that was the tool I used last time, haha, thanks though.

What the fuck? Those two lines don't make any damn sense... I plan on running this in 4k with a single MSI 290 but you are limiting yourself to 1080p with SLI 980s... Wow.

If you move the corresponding .acf (I'm at work right now so forgive me if I have the wrong extension) from your steamapps folder to your steamapps folder on your SSD you will avoid the integrity check.

Simply move game folder from steamapps/common to SSD, then .acf file in steamapps to your SSD, restart Steam, run game.

Hey guys, I really don't know my computer stuff. I'm not expecting amazing things but how well do you think I can run GTA 5?

AMD Radeon 6800 HD
Intel Core i7-2600k cpu @ 3.4GHz
8 GB RAM

How do you think 4k will run with one R9 290?

I have two in CrossFire but it's been a tad hit and miss for me since doing it. A few games just don't like CrossFire :(

Although, I'm almost sure GTA V will be good for it. I just hope there is a profile in this new driver.

If we are posting our rigs I want in.

nzxt h440
i5 2500k @4.6Ghz
H100i CPU cooler
GTX 780Ti SC
16GB Ram
Two BenQ XL2420T but I'll probably just stay at 60fps for this game for moar visuals
GTAV installed on SSD

Ready to roll. We'll see how the game runs when I get off of work. I will miss the unlock time by an hour but it's all good.

There was a day 1 patch mentioned a few days ago, I can't to find any source/info on that.

Anyone have anything?

Thats what I had thought, but I just did that with Metal Gear rising and it still triggered an integrity check. I'll test it with some other games and figure it out.

I've never had that problem as long as I moved the .acf file and restarted. I believe that is what Steam is looking for when you move a game between drives.

Thanks for the feedback, turns out my BIOS has default OC speeds to try out, giving 4.0Ghz a try for CPU and a +1600mhz boost for my GPU right now.

The bios has 4.8ghz listed in red, I'm assuming that means danger?

According to Rockstar, a single GTX 760 can run the game at 4k 30fps (they never told us the settings, but I'm just going to assume they're low).

Now a single 290 is signficantly more powerful than a 760. And then you have two of them.

Interpret that info however you will.

First off, you shouldn't overclock your CPU and GPU at the same time when figuring out how much you can. Do them separate and when one is stable then do the other. If you have issues it just creates more time needed to solve them. Also absolutely don't do 4.8Ghz on your CPU since you definitely don't have the proper cooling. It probably wouldn't hurt your CPU and your BIOS will default to the default CPU speed but it's best to play it safe. Start small and go to 4.0Ghz and see how that is first.

excitement

it's one of the few games to legit take advantage of pc platform in a long time

Ryse and Unity did, along with many other games unless our definition of "legit" is radically different.

In fact I can't remember a time where multiplats did not stress high-end GPUs.

Thanks, figured as such. I'll turn down my GPU since a 770 isn't exactly in need of an OC anyhow.

I doubled checked with some other games, and I'm like 90% sure that I accidentally copied the acf file over, rather than moving it so steam was still looking in the original. I tried it again with Lara Croft: ToS and Worms Clan Wars and both worked perfectly.

So it's either really large installs it doesn't work with, or I just messed up and copied instead of moved, and the second options is way more likely. Thanks for the help Grief.

Anyone here with the digital edition have a i7 3770k (stock) and a EVGA GTX 670 FTW? Or at least that graphics card?

I'm getting the disc edition and am curious if I'll be able to run it to at least look as good as the PS4 edition at 60fps, so I'll be eager to hear your performance feedback when the game unlocks :)

To be honest if you only have a default CPU cooler you shouldn't overclock. Your temps might get crazy high and it will surely shorten your CPU's life. If you do have a aftermarket cooler that is known to be good then you can have some fun. I was able to get 4.5Ghz on my 2500k with a Hyper 212 Evo before I got a H100i so it's not too crazy hard but just make sure your temps are good (ide and at load) if you decide to go higher than 4.0Ghz.

I5(ivey?) with a 660 is the recommended specs. I've read that it's 1080p @ 60 on high settings. So ya, according to them, you should easily.

I thought that was medium settings which seems more realistic considering we are talking about a three years old mid-range GPU.

I did say "few".

GTA is taking advantage of 3D, surround, 4k, editor, custom radio station etc

It has a ton of care put into it that I haven't seen in a PC release in some time.
