GTA V PC Performance Thread

Hey guys, I really don't know my computer stuff. I'm not expecting amazing things but how well do you think I can run GTA 5?

AMD Radeon 6800 HD
Intel Core i7-2600k cpu @ 3.4GHz
8 GB RAM
So, 6870 or 6850? Anyway, those cards have only 1 GB of VRAM so I don't think that you can run the game in 1080p 60 with more or less good settings. You really should upgrade and get a new GPU if your PSU can handle it in max load. R9 280X should be good enough (or R9 290X if you can afford it), plus there will be very good performance boost in other games too.

I5(ivey?) with a 660 is the recommended specs. I've read that it's 1080p @ 60 on high settings. So ya, according to them, you should easily.
The "high settings" part was posted by a guy on the GTA forums who claimed to work for Rockstar (yet provided absolutely no evidence to support the claim). Everyone was so quick to believe him it was shocking.

A 660 pulling 1080/60 on high settings is something I just can't fathom. "Recommended settings" on the spec list has never meant "1080/60 high". And this is GTA V we're talking about.

I see, it did seem a bit much.

I did say "few".

GTA is taking advantage of 3D, surround, 4k, editor, custom radio station etc

It has a ton of care put into it that I haven't seen in a PC release in some time.

It's clear that Rockstar have made sure of checking every box their could. Great to see of course but I'd argue many others have taken advantage of the PC platform. In terms of features Crytek and even Ubisoft have done very well.

I've read medium at first, then it was changed to high.
Well I guess it all depends on what "high" means in practice. I would assume that this is what PS4 and Xbox One builds use.

my i5 2500 and R9 270X is ready!

i do hope amd new drivers support windows 10 and is better than the built in driver with WDDM 2.0

Just observing the status indicator on my monitor. Apparently it's a bug.

Unfortunately it seems that it is just some sort of bug. "This is normal behavior with R349 drivers to facilitate changes with Windows 10. Although the Asus SWIFT G-Sync monitor is reporting G-Sync mode while on the desktop, it is only running in G-Sync mode in full screen apps."

I do hope that means that at least Win10 will be able to run G-Sync on any display mode.

Gonna ram everything up bar AA but leave the sliders as is and see what happens.

4670K 4.2GHz
GTX680 Lightning

I need to play this before going to bed so it better fucking activate at midnight!

True. Those specs will out do a ps4 for sure, however. Just depends on optimization. Will be interesting to see DF compare the settings.

It has been confirmed framerate is not capped at 60fps but that does not mean 120/144 hz are supported.

I just fired up GTA IV, it supports 120 Hz in the options, and i managed to get the framerate in game up to as much as well.

I'd expect no less from GTA V.

Okay, i maybe not 120 fps from my rig, but the actual ability to do so.

Now I'm wondering if I should rush out and buy a 4GB video card. I was under the impression that my 2GB would cover me fairly well for 1080p

RockStar has 2GB GPU's listed in their recommended specs. You won't be running this game (or anything) at 4K with a 2 GB card, but as far as I am concerned you should be fine running it at 1080, hopefully near 60 FPS with some tweaking. People seem to forget this game was built on last gen hardware. It isn't going to need SLI 980's to run it.

Isn't this normal? I remember going through quite a few pages until impressions came in on other games.

Impressions, yes. But performance? No. It's not normal. I came in expecting numbers in the OP.

At least there are links to drivers and tuning guide, I guess.

I would see how your 2gb card does you at first.

Good advice is good advice. I too am hoping for 60FPS at decent settings. I'm just so hyped for this game, that I feel it in my bones. But if possible, I'd like that see if I can sitout buying a graphics card for the next couple of years, and then get a better card at a mid range price.

Wait, really?

Are you fucking kidding me, nVidia/Rockstar? If there is not a proper SLi profile for this game I am going to flip my shit.
Don't flip it.

Even if there isn't a profile at launch there will be one relatively close after launch. Other rockstar games have them. Rest easy.

Don't forget the press was playing in SLI.

According to this it seems to be the case:

http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/350.12/350.12-win8-win7-winvista-desktop-release-notes.pdf

Application Profiles
Added or updated the following SLI profiles:
•Assassin's Creed: Rogue - Added SLI
•Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty! - Added SLI
•Project CARS - Updated SLI
•Victor Vran - Added SLI

Ah, so it was there in the previous driver? I need to check. Sometimes it might be in the registry but not functional.

No SLI profile for GTA V in 350.12! :( (look at the manual)

Damnit!!!

What? It says right in the driver description:

Just in time for the highly anticipated title Grand Theft Auto V, this new GeForce Game
Ready driver ensures you'll have the best possible gaming experience. With support for
GeForce SLI technology
and for one-click game setting optimizations within GeForce
Experience, you’ll have the best possible performance and image quality during
gameplay

There is, and has been for weeks, an SLI profile for GTAV. Today's update must have just improved SLI performance, because the compatibility bits have been there for a while for GTAV and the update today didn't change it.

Do we have any solid confirmation of 21:9 support yet, btw? Really don't want black bars or stretched shit.

Do you use any tools to ensure that your resolution is useable in windows say something like custom resolution utility? Nvidia cards of recent years all allow customized resolution including modes that aren't necessarily supported by your display.

Unless the game is coded badly people will figure out stuff and the natural support from the option thread looks like its extensive to begin with.

Any one know the word on mantle, I know it's unlikely?

Absolutely true. Lots of care. And it is appreciated.

After the launch day failings of so many games nowadays - even on consoles - I would much prefer that a game is released to me when its fully ready, with lots of neat extras and enhancements. Really, I have plenty of games to tide me over in the meantime.

The added time also seems to have helped Nvidia and AMD get prepared, too, so once we update drivers we get a positive day one experience.

Well done, Rockstar.

There is SLI

just to be clear, at midnight tonight UK time the game will unlock and then 'unpack' also before I can play..?

The RSC version doesn't seem to be entirely encrypted, but the Steam version is. Either way, yes, it'll need to be decrypted and unpacked before you'll be able to play it.
