GTA4: Complete for $10/£6.25 @ D2D

The Comrade application is an abomination. What do you guys use to keep track of your purchases on D2D? The website, I guess?

I am running the same OS, odd how you have a problem. What's your spec?
Asus P7P55D, i5 760, 4GB DDR3 and a GTX460 1GB. Dunno why or how it decided that my system wasn't good enough. But now it's installed and I'm gonna give it a go.

Really need to sort my debit card out, missed out on a lot of deals these last couple of weeks. I've played through them all on the 360/PS3 but really like the look of the mods... bah.

It's unplayable for me. At the start of the game, when you have to drive it stutters every second stopping the game for several seconds before continuing. Audio continues without a problem and standing still and moving the camera yeilds great framerate and no stutter at all.

If I knew there would be this many hurdles... and when I installed the game I had to sign up for some stupid Rockstar Club crap. Fun fun fun.

I can't speak for your several seconds of freezing but from my own experience, when I first popped it in, the game felt choppy as heck. I subsequently popped in my PS3 version just to see how it compares and it was just as choppy if not worse. It's weird though b/c when I first played through GTA4 on PS3, I never really noticed it but the framerate is really bad across all platforms.

My framerate was OK during the intro movie and I didn't notice game breaking stuttering. But when I drove the car (pressed W or S) the game basically froze every second. Totally unplayable.

Yeah and I don't think I noticed the choppines on my Xbox 360. Must've been to blown away by the graphics and excited to care about that when the game booted up for the first time on release day :)

I think this has something to do with the GFWL issue in 2009. It asked for an update the second time a booted up the game. Installing as I write this. I also got a prompt to uninstall Rockstar Social Club. What a weird procedure.

Are you using vsync?

Either ditch it or switch to D3DOverrider.

Only use the high texture settings with a 1GB card as well.

Oh and keep the sliders quite low, the higher settings are ridiculous overkill.

Well I can't buy it - maybe because I'm using Chrome - and my friend can't gift to me because of "age restrictions" even though my account says I'm 21. Might have to hope steam matches this deal at christmas.

Already got GTA4 on steam and the dlc's on the 360 but I'd happily pay £6 for the extra episodes on the PC but when I get to Paypal it says it cannot process this request at the moment. Argghhhhhh!!

Any tips?

Use another payment method.

Best thing to do with gta4 is start the game on low settings and work on one thing at a time until you hit something you like and get at least 30fps, my gtx 260 and c2d 2.8 can at least beat the console version in looks and performance.

Shadows can kill your frame rate no questions asked so you may have to put up with medium which looks ok but is real blocky in areas like under bridges.

Already have two copies of gta 4 on pc, as well as gay tony/ lad, but I may get this so I can play without the discs :lol . How longs the deal gunna last?

I updated the GFWL and then got GTA4 patched through it when I logged in and now it runs perfectly.

I got almost all settings on high (except for textures which are kept at medium), the sliders on +50 and vsync on and it runs at a really smooth framerate in 1080p.

So the problem was that Rockstars unpatched, original version was a terrible piece of software. With the latest patch installed it runs great. Now I just need a Xbox 360 wireless reciever or a controller with a USB cord and I'm set replaying this game in a stable framerate with all the extra trimmings that my PC offers.

I get that every single time I go to use Paypal on D2D. I've never resolved it.

BTW, I highly recommend the first person camera mod. It totally increases the immersion of GTAIV.

Did Boris ever fix the ENB series mod to work with the latest patch?

How do I download it with out using the comrade thing?

It says to use Firefox, so I did. All the download links try to launch Comrade... which is awful, and says "Download paused while ingame" I'm not in game.

Edit: Oh, I have to use THEIR download manager?

Thought it was referring to the little box that comes up as you download stuff with firefox. :lol

I think it's possible to download without using any special application. When I first tried downloading it using Chrome, it just gave me a .zip file. But I wanted to use a proper download-manager, so I installed their download manager.

Can this be activated on Steam?

Apparently not. No buy.

All the Steam version is buying you is extra DRM in addition to what's already here. You can't even use Steam's auto updating since its a GFWL title, a lot of games have an advantage being tied to Steam, this isn't one. You're free to add a shortcut to Steam.

Quit stifling competition in the DD space for no good reason.

You should be able to use your web browser to download it, just fine. Maybe try uninstalling Comrade, or right-click > save.

can you use that special lighting mod with this?

edit: also is this lie steam where you can download/delete it as you wish, or can you only download it once?

At the very least some of ENB's features will work, possibly all of them if you don't update through GFWL.

You are free to download the game as much as you like. No restrictions.

cool. i've just bought it

so i have to make sure i dont update it through gfw. i'm assuming that the version you download is the one without the gfw updates already installed, is that right?

Not to go too far OT, but Fallout: New Vegas isn't too bad either. And if you use the coupon code 'LOAD15' it's $29.71

Ouch! Left myself open for that one, didn't I? Yes, full marks for lateral thinking but I was looking for a clue as to something I was missing re. Paypal.

Screw it. Never bought from D2D before and don't feel the need to jump through hoops to do it now. Will wait for some sort of deal on steam instead.

I couldn't even find where to download as a zip. I'm fine with the basic DL manager though, pausing is convenient. If only you could set the speed manually.

I jumped on that one. I have beaten them thoroughly on the 360 so I essentially picked this up to try some of the great mods out there.

lol what the hell after i put in my credit card and shit and it was confirming purchase the price changed to 40 dollars:lol

I guess it was on sale yesterday and not today :(
