Go for it. Guild Wars 2 is suppose to run on a wide variety of hardware. You don't have anything to lose by signing up.

They said on the twitter account that the order you register does not affect your chances of getting in the beta. It's not first come first serve, so as long as you make it within the 48 hours you have just as much a chance as anyone else.
