Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Which setting do you prefer?

Amd Phenom II 965 quad @ 3,4ghz
Nvidia Geforce 570 (1 or 2 gb)
4 gb ddr3 1333 ram

Playing recommended settings, almost everything high @ 1680 x 1050 res. 60 fps sometimes but man, Queensdale really kills the fps. I get dips to aroung 15 fps, and in WvWvW I get big dips aswell.

Really hope they fix this, since lowering the graphic setttings does almost nothing in these areas :/

I just had the terrible idea to read all the races stories while listening to their theme song.

Now I am interested on all stories and I can't decide which race to choose. :|

Pretty sure this is a Retro exclusive problem.

Not true. I've pretty much decided on making every class. I have a couple of races nailed down, but I can swap them between classes on a whim still. And names! I'm terrible at names, so they're going to be last minute things I hate and will want to change a million times but can't, so I need to start changing them a million times now.

This painful.

I really hope they optimize this game by release. It was not in a good state the last stress test.

It's not going to happen, you should not expect it to be. Maybe in the months post release... but in a week... no you're falling into the same trap that people have before.

Do you get a Hero's Band for each character you create?

I'm going to rush character creation to reserve my name but details about the hero's band says that it is mailed to you in-game once you create your character. Just want to make sure I don't blow the item by deleting my first character.

Asked this several pages back but never saw an answer. Anyone know?

I'm running a Phenom II X840 3.4 ghz, 8GB RAM and a Radeon 6950 2GB. I get about 30fps with everything on max, FXAA and post processing on. It dips pretty low in large crowds, and I get about 60 in caves.

Every MMO I've played was in better state than this at launch. I don't expect it to be perfect at launch, but being CPU bound at launch is totally unacceptable. Dropping below 20 fps with my 680 is not a fun experience.

Guys. Guys. It's just a tiny bit over a week to go now. A week.

Remember the "oh god another month till the next BWE" times?

Agreed. I should be getting far better performance.

Every MMO you've played was likely in "Free Preview 'Beta Test'" and essentially done, whereas ArenaNet actually, you know, tests during their beta tests.

That's all fine and dandy but the game is getting ready to launch, so the whole "but it's a beta" gig won't really work for long.

Alright. I'm running the following. I get no dips and constant 60fps, even with streams on and this is with a lot of clutter during wvw. If you watched my stream history during wvw, it should've been at constant 25fps for stream which = 60fps for me.

Intel i7-3770k
Gigabyte GTX 670
8GB 1600 RAM

Performance has largely impressed me in every event on my powerful-but-not-cutting-edge rig. I expect new drivers and post-launch patching will help the super-high-end users who aren't getting the performance they feel like they should be.

It's definitely feeling lie this is becoming an appropriate segment of my life to inhabit a virtual world. I wonder how GW2 will run over Splashtop...

Some of the lolcharr macros are pretty funny.

Only time I've had major frame rate drops is when like 50 people were spamming all their skills in the same spot of Lions Arch. And that was us spamming the game on purpose.

Bleeding edge machine, runs game perfectly. Well that should be a damn given. It's just the games visuals are no where near what you'd expect them to be for the type of performance people are getting.

Tera seems to be more advanced technically and runs better on my pc. But I'm sure making it run better is high on their priority list.

I agree with both these posts.

So it's time for me to start thinking about what class to play come release. I haven't been able to play any more than a little of two stress-tests and have really no idea what class/race I'm gonna go for. I was thinking about guardian, but I always play melee characters in game and was thinking about going something ranged.

What are your suggestions? Is there any combo you've found especially fun to play and why.

All classes have ranged options, even the Guardian (Staff and Scepter). You're better off picking a class that looks coolest to play and going from there. But if you're asking what I think, my top 4 professions are Warrior, Guardian, Engineer and Thief.

Shows off the wolf skill from the DD and CE as well as the Rytlock mini and a big surprise at the end.

Very nice.

Every class can melee, every class can range. You have to think of it differently than other mmos. Base your decision on the skillsets, and class mechanics.... not the type of weapon they use.

The disappointing part for a lot of people is ArenaNet made noise about testing it on non-cutting edge machines and ensuring the bar for entry to the game is reasonably low.

There's quite a few people still using dual core CPUs for example, that can play fairly advanced games with decent frame rate thanks to good GPUs.

I've watched GW2 on 3ghz dual core systems choke and die standing around in opening areas. 5fps when turning the camera and not many players in sight, 20fps moving forward. That's with the visuals turned to the lowest setting.

That would be me

Win7 pro
4GB Ram
GTX260
AMD Phenom II x3 720 2.8ghz

Game is smooth as silk on my shitty PC

Have you tried WvW? I have the same CPU, and when there's a lot of people in WvW the game runs like shit. Changing the graphics settings had no effect, so I assume it was down to the CPU.

GW2 will have issues running for a lot of people, especially at launch with the amount of players that will be on screen, but hopefully ANet will be able to optimise the game over time. All I really care about are dungeons and sPvP, and they run perfectly so I'm happy, but I would be really annoyed with the state of the game if I cared about WvW.

I only tried WvWvW in the last couple of stress tests. My first event was terrible with rubberbanding but that was related to an ISP issue with Anet.

The last 2 have been amazing and I was playing a guardian (melee + lag = bad) with a ton of zerg on zerg. I was shocked at how smooth it was.

My total WvWvW time is like maybe 3 hours total so maybe I was lucky?

Maybe. Although the last chance I've had to play the game was the first stress test after BWE3, so maybe things have changed since then? ANet said shortly after BWE3 that the next month was going to predominantly be spent on optimisation, so I am expecting things to improve, but it's hard to know what to believe when game devs never deliver 100% of what they say (yes, this includes ANet).

Its weird, I thought I was hearing reports of people getting substantially better performance in the recent stress tests when compared to BWE3 (in terms of framerates, and not counting the various log-in/loading/ability delay/server-side problems).

I personally can't comment, as the game has ran smooth since BWE2 for me, but I had upgraded to an ivybridge just before then.

I fall into the category of better performance. Had to play at about medium settings during BWE3 but now I can max out the entire game if I wanted to at a constant 60 unless sitting in the middle of that "flood test".

i5-2500k stock + EVGA GTX 670 FTW

BWE3: 40ish FPS @ Medium-ish
Aug 15 & test prior: 60 FPS stable @ max / "Flood Test" in Queensdale: 20-27 FPS

I'm happy to announce two upcoming...
GAFGuild Mumble Meet & Greet Events!

Here's another opportunity for everyone to hop on Mumble and get to know their future guildmates before launch. Even if you don't have a microphone, you can still participate since Mumble has a chat window. If you don't want to speak up, that's fine too; talking is not mandatory and you're welcome to just log in and listen (keep the creepy stalker breathing to a minimum though).

The first event will be held TOMORROW NIGHT at 10PM Eastern (7PM Pacific, 2am GMT) and run until people leave. This is an hour later than the previous event since a few people on the West Coast were getting home from work and not having time to have dinner or relax.

The second event will be our Mega-Awesome Pre-Launch Super-Countdown Festival of Hype, and will begin on Friday, August 25th at Midnight (9PM on the 24th Pacific, 4am GMT) and run for 3 hours. At this point, the game launches and everyone officially has license to freak out. This event is strictly B.Y.O.K (Bring Your Own Kool-Aid).

Is someone here administering this entry? Don't we want to have the guild website point to http://gafguild.com/ ?

I'm the one administering the entry, as well as the EU entry when it's updated. The reason we went with NeoGAF instead of GAFGuild is that registration at GAFGuild.com is pretty automated, whereas NeoGAF is somewhat notorious for approval times. In the interest of keeping trolls and such away from our community site, I listed NeoGAF as our site. We want that site to be as private as possible.

Also, NeoGAF looks intimidating as hell and we want to keep alliances away.
