Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Statue has no interest for me either.

I can be like Retro.
You're not obnoxious enough.

Edit: speaking of trying it out what is the best pure dps build so far? I know you can change ability sets.

Hey man, I saw you post this a page back and wanted to answer to the best of my ability.

Basically, there isn't a "best dps" class because the classes, aside from their base functionality, are all receiving major reworks to their traits, skills and base abilities.

What do you like to play would be the better question and go from there...I know from lurking the star wars thread you liked playing a bounty hunter right?

There are a host of ranged/melee combo classes (as a matter of fact all of them) so again it's what seems most appealing to you.

I hope this helps.

Saw a page from the art book that reveals something about Zhaitan. After seeing it, I was really pissed. Such a spoiler. Now I won't be as impressed when I see him.

The weird thing is, I think ANET put the image on the web in the first place... *sigh*

Heh, you are mad about spoilers then go and spoil it for the rest of us!

Just kidding, never played the first game much so I have no idea who you're talking about.

2. We also want to see just how dominant they are. Some may disagree, but being on a server that always wins is actually a boring prospect, especially if we're never able to take part in it.
Kinda sad the guild thinks this way.

WvW is meant for that huge, non-serious zerg win. More alliances we got, the better.

sPVP is there for the competitive aspect of PVP.
Didn't they even mention Guild Battles at some point ?

Also, don't we want the WvW rewards early on for PVE purposes ?

I'm perfectly fine with having other communities on our server. In fact, I'd welcome exactly that, as it means we're likely to have more people in WvW (since I doubt all of GAF will be on there all the time). The problem is that Titan Alliance is 8 huge guilds with a singular focus on WvW. It means we can't get in there as a group without queues creating headaches, and that they will be focused on overrunning the other servers, leaving nothing for people to do but sit and wiggle their e-peens until the next reset or some other mega-community comes along.

I also disagree that WvW is meant to be 'non-serious zerg win'. We've seen plenty of videos showing that isn't the case, and my own experiences in WvW during the beta events is contrary to that. Zergs were present, but they could he held off and beaten by proper deployment of siege and tactics.

Gah just Googled and found out I missed a bunch of giveaways :(

Follow them on twitter @GuildWars2. They tend to announce the bigger giveaways.

Some people take WvWvW very, VERY seriously. I personally will be spending the majority of my time in WvWvW this BWE to get a better idea of how it will work during release. But if my time is going to be wasted in a queue, I might not be sticking around long.

Also, nobody knows how things will work with huge dominating guilds all on one server, which is why GoM was chosen for this BWE. It's the test drive to see if we're brought to the breaking point or not with server population.

It's more like I gave everyone a warning about the artbook's contents. If you do not want anything about Zhaitan spoiled, be careful going through your fancy artbooks. That's all I'm saying.

EDIT: On the subject of WvW being nothing more than Zerg heaven, I will no longer have an interest in it and my time with this game will shorten dramatically. Thankfully that doesn't seem to be the case.

More like 8 medium-sized guilds. Most seem in the 50-100 area.

That's still ~800 people, and if only half of them show up, it means there are still queues to get into WvW (since the cap is 100-150 players per server on each map). They're also still actively recruiting, on Reddit, so they'll continue to grow.

We hashed this out pages ago. Unless the upcoming BWE is wildly better than our expectations, a large alliance on our home server is not something to be desired.

Have we seen anything on any class changes for the upcoming beta? Or any news on changes other than the GW2 blog?

Nothing yet... We might get some patch notes sometime this week if we're lucky.

"The guilds will grow once the game goes live and they recruit more."

Guilds are not infinitely increasing entities. They only grow to an amount that's desired by the various guilds' leadership.

"That's still ~800 people"

That is some really hazy estimation. 50-100 people per guild = ~800 people?

And the various guilds' stated goal, written by their leadership, is "domination in World vs. World in Guild Wars 2." That's their description. It is to their advantage to gain as many players as possible, to overwhelm their opponents.

Yes. 50-100 players means around 800 players, since some of them will obviously be larger than 100. GAF Guild maxed out one guild with 100 people, and GAFT wasn't exactly empty either. They'll continue to grow as we get closer to launch too.

If you want to be anal about it, fine; ~400-800 players.

Is there a list of popular guilds going where?

Goonsquad and, maybe Curse Gaming?

Vano posted something he found here:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=39366318&postcount=525

Goonsquad appears to be on Sea of Sorrows, I don't see Curse on there unless I'm missing something.

It also appears that Goonsquad is splintering up a bit. There's a guild called the Goonies rolling on Blazeridge, and The Gentlemen's Club (which is an offshoot of SA) on Tarnished Coat.

Most of these guilds are not about getting *as many players as possible* but getting players that fit in with the atmosphere of the guild (which is pretty laidback/friendly). That you believe "domination in WvW" means "mass recruiting everyone possible" is a leap in logic.

Furthermore, for all your praise of new features ArenaNet is implementing in GW2 you're forgetting about WvW matchmaking.

"They're recruiting via Reddit. Does this imply to you that they want to be small? Ever hear of Goonswarm?"

Pretty much any recruiting guild will advertise that they're recruiting on various public websites. I mean, really?

Goonsquad's Starfleet Dental is going to be on Maguuma as well.

Bummer, yet another BWE that I can't participate in due to real life circumstances. Out of town for all but April. T_T

Pumped for the launch though!

5$ Coupon for the Original Soundtrack when ordering the Collectors Edition

Oh for #!@+¤%, I ordered the soundtrack last week! They couldnt bothered to be a liiiittle earlier with this!?

Cool, I'll check this out...

Guild Wars 2: Original Game Soundtrack

This item represents Physical CD's, it is not a digital download.

When will music companies realize that the CD is a dead medium? I'd much rather spend the money on a digital release rather than being forced to spend the time to rip all the music myself.

Speaking of which, what's the legality of downloading the soundtrack to a game you already own, or even ripping the music out of the game client files?

Well, you guys let me know how the new server goes. I think I'm just going to try the classes I haven't and call it a weekend.

Also, there's no reason the OST couldn't be part of the CE, you silly moneygrubbing ANET. I'm not buying it separately, tyvm.

Mobility dps is what i like. Ranged is fine but id like atleast some melee ability.

It's beside the point, but I wouldn't say any guild that defines itself as having "hardcore playstyle" and defines their goal as "to be the top ranked server for World vs. World in Guild Wars 2" is not exactly exuding a laidback atmosphere.

Regardless of their actual roster, their mere presence is likely to draw a slew of people tagging along to ride on their coattails. leading to overcrowding and queues.

No matter how many minute details you want to draw up to argue the point, the fact still remains; GAFGuild leadership got together, talked it over for an hour or two, and decided to try GoM during the BWE and, if it turns out how we expect, to select a different server. Based on the feedback in this thread since I posted that decision, this isn't exactly an unpopular choice.

Furthermore, for all your praise of new features ArenaNet is implementing in GW2 you're forgetting about WvW matchmaking.

Matchmaking has nothing to do with it. If we're on the same server as them, they're a presence we can't avoid.

I blame Retro. Sounds like a conspiracy of his caliber.

Heh, I ordered my CE in April and bought the Soundtrack last week too. If it were a conspiracy of mine I'd have made sure to benefit from it, no?

When will music companies realize that the CD is a dead medium? I'd much rather spend the money on a digital release rather than being forced to spend the time to rip all the music myself.

I like having the CDs. Not everyone has an Auxillary input in their car (yes, I would listen to this while I drive, it's very nice and ambient) and I actually like the idea of having a physical copy in case something happens to my MP3s.

And really, how long does it take to rip four CDs? 10 minutes max, where all you need to do is put the disk in and take it out?

Mobility dps is what i like. Ranged is fine but id like atleast some melee ability.

Rangers can actually get kinda scary up close if the player knows what they're doing, for what that's worth.

Pretty much every class can be mobile dps. Very few skills root you in place (and most of those are on the Guardian). Lots of leaps, sprints, etc. Mobilitiy is a big part of the base game design.

And on a side note, thanks for the minipet _machine! 12 more to go :D

Ultimately the worst that can happen is Gate of Madness is garbage and we revert back to Gandara, or whatever is was called.

Damn this thread moved a lot since last night. I switched up my build and used that 7 man hero build and even without the elites it still seems to work real well. Hopefully I can get through War in Kryta and get my Oppressor weapon today.

I went through War in Kryta with all heroes...and I think only Gwen (with panic) and Vekk (searing flames) had elites, lol. Its definately doable, especially if you are a spirit-spammer Rit.

Just find some equal ground. Not wanting to be on a server with a huge alliance is understandable. But wanting to go to a completely shit server just so gaf can be the king of the nobodies sounds like a recipe for disaster.

No one is suggesting that. This guild has never been about dominating PVP.

We just want it to be so that WvW is available for people to join when they want, and not so heavily queued that its too much of a hassle to participate. And when we do join WvW, we would like to feel like we are contributing, rather than just taking up a slot that could be going to a hardcore PvPer.

If you wait till this afternoon, 3pm EST, I can run the quest with you, because I have finished Surrows Furnace so all I need to do is 1 quest to get to the Iron Forgeman. It takes me about 15 minutes to get to him.

When we get there you just have to stand under the pot that drops lava on us, and boom you got your little black moa chick.
Thanks, though I think our times dont sync up very well, was at work at just got home now. Will see if I can perhaps get something done tonight.

Wait, what? Crap. Didn't know about the quests you're referring to. Do you mean the 4 quests inside?
Yeah, 4 quests with 4 of the dwarves I have to talk with and do their stuff inside the place, 1 at a time. And then I can get the final one which leads to the big forgey guy.

At no point did anyone ever advocate going to a 'shit server', nor did we have any problem sharing Henge or Gate with other groups (according to that chart from /vg/, both had some groups planning to roll there).

This is not and never has been about being "the superstars of our server", it's about being able to actually play rather than queue up because the server is overpopulated. For example, Kel'Thuzad was unplayable because of Goonsquad. We don't want a situation where GAFers want to get on and play but they're stuck staring at a queue for WvW.

You don't have to do all 4 in a single sitting. 1 is pretty much just a tour of the inside, most of the normal enemies won't even be hostile.

The only challenging one is the Priest Dwarf, but if you just are careful with flagging your heroes, and run back to defend him immediately after pulling the first regular mobs, and again when you first attack each "boss", its pretty easy.

I can play while I am at work usually (which is right now, so it should synch with your play times), and if you dont mind pretty frequent afk's, I can get you through it without any problems. Though today I have to go see a client in 4 minutes, and tomorrow I might have the same problems keeping me out of the office and friday is beta.....so it'd probably wouldnt be till monday.

I just wanted to post my two cents on the issue of server selection, although they're pretty much what, from what I read, most people seem to be thinking. Which has surprised me, greatly and pleasantly; I was almost convinced that I was alone in this thinking, and although I even posted about it a while back, I thought it would be an uphill battle convincing people. Imagine my relief and satisfaction when I found it's the opposite. :)

I'm referring to the fact that I would much sooner lose with a handful of friends, that "win" (if that's even the term) with 1000 perfect strangers. I want to feel like I'm contributing something; being in a server with a hardcore, ultrapopulated guild would accomplish the exact opposite; I don't want to be a dwarf walking among giants. We have a saying in Spain that, I think sums it up rather well: "Mejor ser cabeza de ratón que cola de león" ("better to be mouse's head than lion's tail").

The fact that Retro is not only supporting this idea (one I considered unpopular to the point of being unmarketable), but actually wants to prove it the hard way by letting people have a taste of it this weekend, blows my mind; it's freaking genius AND a supremely ballsy move at the same time. If I didn't already hold Retro in the highest regard, this would seal the deal. :)

My only regret is that there's a chance that this will be the last chance I get to play WvW with you US guys (depending on what I finally decide), but that's a minor concern: I'm sure we'll have a great time anyways. :)

So...since home servers don't matter except for WvW, I'm definitely rolling on a middle of the pack server. Enough so that people will play WvW, but without queues.

I like this design decision from AN. I can play with whoever I want and not feel bad for choosing a server and sticking to it.

I agree wholeheartedly. Nothing's worse than playing Counterstrike and seeing that everyone on both teams are clanmates who are top-tier players. Sure, my team won, but my personal KDR is 0:8 because I was the weakest link and contributed nothing.

I know that Guild Wars works completely differently than Counterstrike, but I guess we'll have to see how things turn out this weekend.

Oh, I like that one. Very much so.

Okay, to be fair, I was just the one who posted it, since after we all agreed to go to Gate of Madness, everyone had stuff to do or had to leave. Everyone read over the post though and approved. I support the idea, of course, but the choice came about because GAFGuild leadership thought it was the best option after discussing it.

It's also not entirely about proving anything either. We want to see how the game handles that many people. For all we know, ArenaNet managed to up the number of players per map substantially. I still don't like the idea of rolling on a server with a major alliance, but if it goes well enough we might consider a higher population server.

The plan is basically to get through the weekend, see how it goes, and see what people plan to do for launch (remember, Titan Alliance said this is just for the BWE, they may not stay).

My only regret is that there's a chance that this will be the last chance I get to play WvW with you US guys (depending on what I finally decide), but that's a minor concern: I'm sure we'll have a great time anyways. :)

If the latency is alright, why u no roll NA server?

For some reason this line made me crack up.

Don't see it anywhere, but had thought I saw something of the game having like a sidekick like system so players of different levels can quest together?

You are automatically de-leveled to the appropriate level of the content you're in. You can be level 80 in the starter zones, but it will lower your stats (including your gear) down to level 5. That means you can go back and play with friends, help alts, whatever. It doesn't work the other way, however; you can't be level 5 and be buffed up to level 80, for example.
