Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

This end event wasn't planned out very well :\

The hunger mechanic just puts you in combat 100% of the time making you move like a snail.
And why can you die as a robot spectator!?!

Making me run around trying to find and support my team members every time i accidently run into an enemy is just annoying now

Because they have powerful support abilities, and it's advantagous for the other team to kill you? If they wanna waste ammo on you, let them.

There is only one guy on the blue team now on my server and it's been like that for the last 10minutes. The other 3 teams couldn't find him.

Now there are only 8 players left with 5minutes on the timer. Wonder if anything will happen when it does actually finish.

Ya, it's a problem with the size of a map. It was a really good test of a gameplay mode, and you couldn't expect much polish on it at all. If they made the map smaller, had less rations it'd be a lot better. Someone able to hole up with a ton of rations isn't cool.

My first death was so stupid. We were zerging this guy (basically 6v1) and he dropped an explosive ration and some idiot in the middle of us picked it up. Needless to say it killed most of all. Second time I just died out of hunger pretty fast. Made it to a building that I thought was out of the way and there were already 2 guys there who cleaned it up.

I could see it being a lot of fun with some tweaks and a smaller map.

It was also great to see that the event launched and worked without major issues. They finally got it right.

In the last 5 seconds of the event, all the robots gathered in one place and used the shield skill all at once.

Entire screen froze then got disconnected. Nice way to end the beta!

Well the ending event was awesome, at least for me because I managed to survive the whole event :D Almost had an heart attack when I had to fight two enemies in the last minute.

That was a bit of a bizarre finish to the bwe but that gametype still needs to come into the final release at some point.

For those who weren't able to make it to the end, bwe3 finale was basically a reenactment of the Hunger Games called Hunger Royale. Four teams fought it out in the entire Asura starting zone until one remained. Everybody had rifles with limited ammo and they had to find ration apples in order to stave off their ever-diminishing health, or kill opposing players and take their loot.

Gate of Madness? When i was robot, i found him and the dude soloed a Red member team and stayed full health, a true survivor.

That final event was a blast. Using in game mechanics to create a 4 team based "Hunger Games" style battle royale was thoroughly impressive. Arenanet, you guys just secured another extremely excited gamer for your game.

... And what's Vistas? Excuse my ignorance please. I honestly did NOT see that last BWE and had no time to play this time around.

They're like little jumping/parkour puzzles and when you get to the vista, there is a short cutscene showing you some landscapes/structures around you. Nice little addition to the game in my opinion.

Someone found a way to break out of robot mode. If you use a tonic that transforms you into something else, you revert back to normal human after you leave the Tonic form. It also wipes the hunger effect from you. You don't count as being alive for the score though.

So if someone figured this out while they were still alive then they could have wiped the hunger from themselves and just hid away for the win.

I was one of the last 10 guys on my team to survive, unfortunately I ended up by myself and lost a 1vs1 fight. I couldn't target the guy because there were 30 robots all around us it was such bullshit lol. The mode has a ton of potential and really should be in the game as an actual mini game, but the map size needs to be smaller for sure. and no time limit, so last man standing can win maybe? With less rations as time goes on this could be plausible.

You get to an elevated place through an easy jumping puzzle, and there is a map icon to interact with. When you do, it shows you a small cinematic clip of the surrounding area. Pretty neat.

Okay. So... I spend damn near the entirety of this BWE trying out different classes, different races, etc. And only when there's five hours to go in the thing do I finally make a Charr Mesmer.

I AM IN LOVE

This will be my main. Never had a main before in a MMO, but this is it. I couldn't find a weapon combination that felt awkward - everything just gelled with my playstyle completely. I hope they don't change a damn thing with the profession 'cause it's perfect as is for me.

At any rate... I spent the last few minutes outside the event trying to catalog something... Did you guys know there is a humpback whale in Lion's Arch? I found him while I was doing one of my random swimming bouts. Also, there are deep sea shrimp...

Kind of neat.

Anyway. WvW issues aside, I'm thrilled with this Beta. Mostly because I have finally - FINALLY - chosen a main.

EDIT: Though I died during the event, I was quite pleased with my performance... Was attacked by a group and ended up killing three of them before they finished me.

EDIT #2: Also, there is a minor jumping puzzle inside the Troll guy's cave behind the waterfall on the southeastern edge of the Lion's Arch map. If you go into the back of his cave, there are a series of ledges and pedestals that you can get up. This leads to a secondary cave, which then leads... to a ledge overlooking Lion's Arch bay. Yeah, there's nothing at the end of it, but it's definitely meant to be there. Not sure if they're planning on putting something there eventually or if it's just a fun thing for exploration folks.

Enjoyed the hell out of that event, even if I died early on. Supporting the two last green teammates till the end was awesome.

I could see that being a lot of fun if the map was a bit smaller.

Edit: Quick general impressions, I'm now more conflicted than ever. I went into this last BWE expecting my Warrior to be my main, but then I fell in love with my Asura Guardian, I just love their animations. Then this last day I decided to try out many of the classes I had no intention of playing, just to understand how they play. Elementalist was alright, same with Necro, but then I decided to make an Engineer.

20 sPvP matches later I have to say I'm surprised just how much I enjoyed that class. Which has now made my main decision that much harder. Not to mention there's still a little part of me that wants to make a Thief, considering I main'd a Rogue in WoW for a good five years.

Really loved both the Sylvari and Asura starting zones, but I still think ArenaNet needs to work on the leveling curve, at least at low levels. Both on my Elementalist and Necro I was at times stuck because I had completed all of the hearts around my level, yet I couldn't find many, if any, events taking place.

Your Asura does look badass... lol =)

EDIT: For what it's worth, sorry I didn't get to play with you guys in the guild this BWE. Ended up escorting a number of friends around. One had already prepurchased the game, while the others got Beta keys from somewhere. So they were wanting to hang out a lot.

So why did red start with like 20 more people when the no-respawn period started?

I was in Gold during training mode but the game crashed when I fought my first battle. When I logged back in it put me in red. Going by gold performance I am guessing I wasn't the only one to crash there.

Ended up warming up to the little rats; their animations are fantastic. I'll probably make one eventually.

I do hope they fix the mesmer, because the class is pretty worthless outside 1v1 play. the illusions/clones take too long to build up, especially since they stick to one mob and disappear when the mob dies. This is useless in big events where you get swarmed by mobs, because most mobs die in seconds. I really wanted to like the class, i was sure it would be my main class, but at the moment it just feels so incompetent compared to every other class due to its mechanics, which make me fear it wont be easy to fix.

Besides that the game needs to make it more clear that you have to move around zones more. The level cap shown on the map doesnt help, ebcause seeing a zone with level 1-15 under it makes a new player assume you can easily do those levels by staying on that map, which isnt really true. Unless you 100% the map and repeat events a couple of times and do crafting/gathering/WvWvW, i guess. Multiple times i felt underleveled because i had done all hearts and personal story content and had to either move to another zone or 100% the zone, and i never got a character above level 10. It might be by design, but it needs to be made more clear.

Also, the game needs some more explanation how things like crafting work, or how to easily go to the starting zone of another race through those portals. These are basic gameplay things which really need to be made clear to a new player instead of hoping the player stumbles on it.

So anyone else here do the asura jumping puzzle? I'm curious how many jumping puzzles like that there are. There's one for every race I assume... after that though?

just a bunch of random screenshots

Duuuuude... this one is pretty sick. God, this makes me want to play the Cantha area so badly if/when the time comes!

I did the Sylvari one, first try & pretty quickly... was pretty funny to watch the corpses fall when I was at the top lol. LOTS of 'em!

There's more in zones after the starting zones, 2 in the 2nd Charr zone if I remember correctly.

Guild Updates

New guilds now cost 1 silver and start with a membership cap of 50.
Guild membership cap can be increased 5 times up to a limit of 500 by speaking to a Guild Registrar and meeting representation requirements.
Guild upgrades have been reorganized. Early tiers now have more localized benefits and are more social targeted.

So Guild limit is 500.

I didn't experience this at all. Big / small events, the mesmer handled great for me. The illusions and clones were useful. Sometimes they died quickly, sometimes they didn't. Regardless they would often take a hit that would have otherwise been meant for me or some other person in my group. In every large-scale DE I was part of, regardless of how low I was leveled relative to it - I kept moving to play with friends who had dedicated their entire Beta time towards one or two professions while I made one of each and leveled each above 15 - I was very, very useful. People would actually comment on what I was doing for the group. That's the first time that's happened playing this game.

Perhaps the profession just didn't click for you... ?

As for leveling: Never had any problems leveling. I moved through levels rather quickly generally and I almost never repeated DEs. I made sure to hit my Daily Achievements and filled in every map I played on.

Pretty quick? Asura one took me an hour... it was like 4 seperate zones. Each with a different gimmick. First one had wind that'd knock you off of platforms. Second one was lightning, that was very megaman disappearing blockish. Third was ice, you'd get a chill debuff and move like at 20% speed.

So Guild limit is 500.

How much to increase? We can put a little donation bin up right away to make increasing Guild Cap first priority.

Haha, easy? Try the higher level ones, Lion's Arch vistas were incredibly fun.

Wow haha the Sylvari one was much easier...and quite beautiful as well at the top.

1s, 10s, 1g is what I saw, I'd guess 10g, then 100g for a final upgrade but we might have info on that up on the wiki in the coming days.

So the Chef outfit you can get in the Gem Shop actually looks different based on what race you wear it on.

All the races were designed with unique looks for their job outfits. The humans have an older style chef’s hat with some flare, the norn have a more modern look, shorter and cleaner. The sylvari were based on the head wrap drapery of medieval cook’s outfits. (http://gallery.e2bn.org/assets/0812/0000/0190/dscf0983_mid.jpg)

The same idea happens with their outfit and accessories: to design something that resembles the job without being outright clones of each race or directly blatant. The sylvari grow their outfits. Just like the blacksmith have an allusion of a protective apron, with the heavier leaf plates in front and small leaves trailing where the straps would be, the cook needed to have a cook’s feel to it and we wanted to use other symbols. So we researched older designs and went with a baker’s motif.

If you notice, the seeds are wheat stalks and, as you pointed out, the tight cluster of wheat seeds form an oven mitt. The leaves drape as some of the tunics would from that era. If you dye it in creams and whites, looks rather baker-ly, no? :} (http://www.arena.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/ArmorClothingConcepts.jpg)

I find it funny that when they wear world gear, everyone wants very planty stuff. But when you get very planty stuff, folks ask for more recognizable world gear… ;}

and

Thank you! :} Oh yes, I love gear, especially planty gear. I try to get it in there as often as we have the ability to. My favorite feature: did you guys notice the stems of any of the cultural outfits/armors will dye and blend the same color as your skin tone? This makes the outfits truly look like they are growing straight from the sylvari’s body! ;} (geek moment!)

loving the mesmer also, was able to solo a Dolyak party with the clones/illusions lol

*fist bump* I was blown away by how well I played with that profession. It was like it clicked so well I learned how to play the game. I was soloing shit I had no business soloing. A group of bad guys 4+ levels higher? Who gives a damn. Run in.

More often than not, it worked out.

Posting previous suggestion on new page. If we can get this or something like this organized, we might not need donation drives at all:

Alright GAF Guildies, I have a PvE proposal for when the game goes live August 25th to really give massive boosts to our influence in order to give us goodies and advantages:

- As a guild, we individually leave aside a starting area for us to group together in (e.g., Norn Starting Area and surrounding Norn leveling zones). This means that, as a general rule, GAFers will be encouraged to 'solo' all of the game except for one race's zone (Norn in this example).
- Every night or at designated times during the week (e.g., Friday night, 10pm EST or every night 10pm EST), we GAFers get together to zerg the designated starting zone (Norn in this example). Since we'll be grouping together, we'll get several advantages: content goes down faster, but more importantly we'll get massive amounts of guild influence by simply being in one another's presence in doing events / hearts / challenges / exploring. Obviously, the guild coming together to form a tighter community is another advantage.

This will get us a large amount of influence if we can pull this off. We can shift our focus down the road to doing dungeons together instead of a certain racial starting zone as we all level up as well, making sure our influence gain is constant. In other MMOs we wouldn't be able to conceivably put aside a starting zone for all of us to zerg at once at designated times, since peoples' levels would be all over the place. However, the downleveling system makes this idea very possible and we'd be missing an opportunity not to get all the influence we can by utilizing the mechanics.

I found a secret jumping puzzle (I think) in Lion's arch, in a cafe after a waterfall. Managed to get to the top of it (Nobody was there, I felt so proud for finding it on my own ^^) but got nuthin' but a nice view.

Anyone knows what I'm talking about? Did I overlook something?

what weapons are you rocking? I like the Greatsword/Staff combo, so amazing, at first I was having problems conjuring up clones until I learned to weapon swap , but after that, just like you said, it all clicked in

I did =D Easier than the regular jumping challenges I've found in previous BWE at least. There's at least 2 of those (in the Norn areas) that are stupidly hard, like 30-40 min of trying hard.

the one with the ravens? Once you get the hang of it, I think it's rather easy (you should do it with together with another player though because the enemies there)

still took me like 30 minutes though

Greatsword, Sword/Focus

The greatsword speaks for itself, but I really enjoy sword/focus. Good mobility, Blurred Frenzy for those bosses that are really troublesome, and Swap on the Illusionary Leap.

Seriously badass. I will make sure to play around with the Staff more after launch. I was having so much fun with this combo that I sort of neglected some of the others.

Didn't have much time to play this weekend but I think I cemented my thought of starting with a Guardian.

Also, grey and black sylvari with red glow and red eyes is awesome like burnt ash and ember.

Ahh, I mostly managed to resist the beta weekends after the first one so one month from now, I can start the game almost not knowing anything about it. I quickly tested all the classes and I think guardian might be my choice because it is both a very durable tank with certain weapons, but almost a pretty decent damage dealer with something like greatsword.

That being said, I'm repeating the mistake I always make. NEVER go melee in a multiplayer game. But here I am, once again going melee. And I'm probably going to suffer terribly in the months to come, not being able to do a whole lot in mass PvP.

All classes have ranged weapons. There is no melee class or ranged class. Everyone (least ideally) is suppose to be able to do both well.
