Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Question I've always wanted to ask:

Those achievement-points with the M in the circle... you get for quests/exploring...are they good for something? Or just the generic xboxlive/gamecenter "achievement points" system to show off how much you've completed? :D

Just to show off how much, in the end of some tracks you'll get titles though.

So did they add a FPS counter to the options menu or did I just notice it? It's there if you open the program and go to options.

Damn, I forgot to test something I wanted to check for my Thief builds. Does anyone know if dodge rolling will break stealth effects?

Seriously. I don't need my tits groped by my armor D:

Sometimes you run out of breast armor. Sometimes when you run out of breast armor you realize it's because you made too many gloves. Sometimes you just need a problem solved.

no, it doesn't

however, some abilities will target you through stealth and deal damage and reveal your position. It's the most annoying thing ever.

All abilities can do that, if a projectile or weapon animation/spell intersects with you it will break your stealth.

yep, but I was specifically referring to targeted abilities with delayed effects. I'm not even sure if they break stealth, but if you get hit by a knockdown/stun/cripple/chill while invisible, you don't go anywhere in those 3 or 4 seconds.

Since it's nearly 5am, I'm probably late about this, but I'll (re)post it anyway. http://feedback.majorleaguegaming.com/forums/116515-pro-circuit-feedback-forum

Vote for what you want to see in MLG. I put 3 into GW2 and 3 into each of the TF2 formats (6v6 and highlander), but there's other stuff like Tribes I would love to see get played.

And no, they're not going to rush right into GW2. They'll wait a year or two before putting it in, but voting for it now makes sure it's in strong consideration for later.

If you are going to level together, you might also want to check out cross-profession combos. I think it would be pretty fun to find two classes with good combo synergy and go to town. Of course, elementalist has great synergy with pretty much anyone since they can drop a ton of fields. the problem is is that i dont know if necro has a whole lot of finishers to take advantage of those fields.

I think it would make the gameplay a bit more interesting for you guys

Do you have any suggestions about that? I'm not really sure about what the fields mechanic is.

We will be playing casually but it would of course help if we have a good synergy between us and make the game easier, or should I say smoother.

Generally speaking, the caster classes tend to have more fields than finishers, and the martial classes tend to have more finishers than fields. Everyone has at least one field type they can put up regularly, and everyone has at least one finisher on a 5 second cooldown or less. The most common finisher is projectile, which I think everyone but Mesmer and Guardian have an auto-attack for.

With the exception of the caster classes, I believe every weapon has some type of field or finisher, and when it comes to two-handed weapons you can at times get both.

I did HUGE amounts of trolling with my Thief yesterday.
Dual Daggers + Shortbow.
Kept pulling people off of walls with my Scorpion Wire, used Poison Blast + Cluster Shot for Area Weakness on large groups. Tons of teleporting and stealthing around. Jumped into big groups, picking off one or two people, then stealthing/teleporting out.
I went an entire 30 minutes without dying or being downed and I got tons of kills.
Also put up a few arrow carts and held two bridges against a huge zerg with a much smaller group.

Awesome times,seriously.

Guys, do you think there's an optimal class for attempting to get 100% world completion in a timely fashion? I'd be solo most of the time, so survivability and being able to move around quickly would probably be the biggest bonuses for me... Thief, I guess? I know they have stealth and a signet that gives a whopping +25% movement speed as its passive.

Very complicated, especially in this game where grouping with a friend for PvE for example doens't always work because of all the overflow crap going on...nice explanation though,I have done a few by accident when there is a lot of people in events.

Overflow crap? Hard to play with friend?
If you are on the overflow and your friend isn't, just tell him to right click on your name/icon and choose "join friend". Same thing works when you are in PvP and he wants to join.

they are probably going to nerf the movement speed bonus. An Elementalist with some points in the air attunement trait line has equal/better mobility (even better with ride the lightning). However, both professions are super squishy and require a lot of kiting. Rangers on the other hand can have swiftness nearly all the time (+ some good gap closers), have a pet that can tank damage, are more durable, have strong melee and ranged weapon options and can easily keep up with Thieves when it comes to damage output. So if you really wanted to rush through the game content, I'd say the Ranger is your best bet.

Yeah, the Overflow servers are ridiculously awesome. Wish I could choose to play on one sometimes.

....

Wait, can you?

I meant to post this picture back when the servers went down but never got around to it, here's a picture of my character with some of the final moments of the GAF Guild chat.

During the stress test Henge of Denravi surprisingly did great in WvW. It was incredibly fun and enjoyable, I actually haven't played properly since WvW BWE1 but I really enjoyed dedicating the stress test to WvW.

Sounds like a blast!

Did anyone else experience severely bad performance during that stress test? Or was I special?

Mine was fine. Fraps indicated around 55-60 fps wherever I was.

Yeah, I'm hoping the jankiness I experienced has something to do with the stress test, whatever they were working on, and isn't standard. If it is the norm, this game is no longer playable for me.

I don't want to rush through the fun, substantive game content like DEs and dungeons, I just want to fill up all dem bars and get 100% on all the zones with at least one character. Thanks for the Ranger suggestion, though!

Didn't you play the BWEs before?
Yesterday was not even close in any way to how great the BWEs run.
It was, literally, a stress test. It's not how the game is AT ALL.

I played all the BWEs and they ran ridiculously better than yesterday. Hell, even BWE 1 was better than yesterday. So yes, I have been operating under the assumption that it was stress test hijinks, but it was still scary to have it become a literal slideshow - and yet seeing others in here talk about how well it was running for them.

I'm really a fan of Keg Brawl. The only thing I would change is the keg carriers third skill. It should jump foward a little more, but not as much as the roll and kick skills of the other players.

I could definitely see this turn into sort of a niche competitive side game, sort of like Griftball in halo. I was just jumping in games without anyone else and I encountered a team that were completely dominating. They were coordinating and throwing the keg to eachother, using stomps at the right time, it was really a blast. Even though my team was losing 11-2 just about every time.

I am probably late in saying this but anyone who hasn't tried Keg Brawl go try it. I wish I remembered to try it last BWE.

The game ran horribly in the heart of mists, ran either bad or great in sPvP and ran absolutely flawlessly in WvWvW for me.

Played a few rounds with my friend yesterday. It's amazing how fun the game is when you coordinate and pass!

The whole point of a stress test is to bring the thing you are stressing to it's knees. Then you know the limits and how to fix it. I would be more concerned if it did not turn into a slide show.

Maybe Blizzard should have tried a real stress test with D3 before the launch nightmare!

I get what a stress test is for. But what I was hearing prior to logging in didn't match the stress tests I've experienced in the past.

Picture it from my perspective: I get into the thing late after reading all these comments, in this thread, about how it's running better than in BWE3. People are getting 50-60 FPS rather than 30-40. [Yes, I'm paraphrasing - shut up. :) ]

So I finally get on and go into WvW - and it runs like dogshit. No matter the setting, no matter the resolution.

Given the prior testimonials, yes, it made me nervous.

Apparently some people had that problem which went away after they set their Windows power settings to "maximum performance".
No idea if that could have helped you or not.

That's a fair point. I would not be concerned though. I would think after the patch, they jacked up the spoof players and tried to bring the thing to it's knees towards the end. Especially if this is the last planned test. [Of course that is assuming the actual stress test went well on their end]

The wait for this game is getting tough! :)

Yeah, I tried that. But yes, it does tend to help and it's good advice. Thanks.

If you were looking at a decently sized group then yeah it's gonna run like crap. At least that's been my experience with every client they've rolled out. My fps was in the 70s when I was just strolling along with 3-4 people but when 20 people on my screen are firing off spells while mortars are landing all around I was getting fps in the mid to low 20s.

There's still some optimization that needs to be done to the client. I don't expect it to run great but since I'm rolling with a 2500K @ 4.2 and a GTX 670 OC I really should be able to stay in the 30s when looking at mass scale warfare. Part of this may be on nvidia though. I hear some good things about the current beta drivers. Some people were saying they were seeing a 10 fps improvement. If I'm still pulling 20 fps in big battles come release I'll give the beta drivers a go.

As a side note I wish there was an option to just have the fps ticker in the corner with the clock so I don't have to pull up the options menu to get an idea of my fps.

Everywhere I go I read that Thieves are "weak, squishy and do no damage".

I..I just don't understand :(
From an output-to-input ratio, they are. That is, you have to work harder to accomplish the same or similar results that other professions achieve with less effort. It doesn't mean thieves can't do well; it just is harder to keep them comparable to other classes.
